it's a SWEET night,, Connie « Thread Started on Sept 20, 2009, 5:48pm »
It was a late night around the end of April, meaning that Lizz’s pregnancy was getting more and more progressed, which also meant she was having more and more problems sleeping at night. In between the frequent kicks, the aches and pains all over her body, and the annoying cravings she would get in the middle of the night, it was rare that she ever got any sleep. Again, it was another of those nights, her cravings keeping her up that night. Trying to ignore them, she tossed and turned in her bed, trying to fall asleep since she had a Transfiguration test the next day, but her stomach kept persisting that it needed food. Sometimes she wondered if it was her stomach that wanted the food or the child who was begging for it. Either way, she knew she wouldn’t get any sleep until she fulfilled her needs, so with a slight groan, she pulled herself into a sitting position, her back aching slightly. She difficultly got up to her feet and slipped on some black flip-flops and a white robe, before walking out of the girls’ dorm.
Walking through the hallways, her feet were dragging. She was absolutely exhausted from getting so little sleep. The signs were obvious under her eyes, where her dark circles just seemed to become more and more obvious. She could see the worried looks Landon always gave her, and she knew that he noticed her lack of energy, but whenever he tried to help her, she just shook him away. She just needed to deal with the pregnancy like an adult – which she now was – instead of crying for help and whining constantly about the pain it was causing her. She had gotten herself in the situation, and it was up to her to deal with it. It was her responsibility, not anybody else’s. Sure, it was partly Landon’s responsibility, since he was the father, but he could help when the baby was actually born. While it was growing in her stomach, she didn’t see much of what Landon could do except wait.
Maybe that reasoning had something to do with the fact that Lizz was stubborn and had always been very independent, but she still was quite determined to not let Landon baby her while she was pregnant. She could take care of herself perfectly well. Which was why she had dragged herself out of bed, and was now heading towards the kitchen to satisfy her cravings, instead of going to see Landon and make him do it instead. Sure, at times she did that, but those times were rare, as she still tried to do most things by herself. She finally reached the kitchen and walked in to find very little action, since most of the house-elves were sleeping. One little house-elf who was still awake walked over to her and asked her what she wanted. She barely had to think, since she knew what her stomach was craving at the moment. “Green jell-o with raspberries, please.” The house-elf nodded and walked away to fill her order. She sat down in the closest chair – or more like collapsed in the chair – and held her head up with one hand, her elbow leaning against the counter she was sitting in front of.
Her eyes slowly started to close when she felt the house-elf prod her side. Her eyes snapping open, Lizz looked over at him, and saw that he was holding her order. She mumbled a thank you and took the plate from him, placing it in front of her. The raspberries were in a small bowl beside the larger bowl of green jell-o. Dumping all the raspberries in the jell-o, she proceeded to mixing it all together, before bringing a spoon full to her mouth and swallowing. She immediately felt relief as the food slipped down into her stomach, as if her child was thanking her for such sweets. The thought brought a slight smile to her face as she ate another spoonful. She definitely wasn’t ecstatic to be having a child, but she felt like she was now more ready and accepting to give birth to him or her. Her motherly side was slowly coming out.

As the last day of school came closer and closer , Connie became more and more restless. This was it, school would be done for him and while he was more than excited about the fact that he was indeed going to be able to play Quidditch professionally, he worried. He worried about Rory with only Tamber to keep him in order, he worried about Lizz and her child, and he just worried.
The worry would lead to sleepless nights most spent roaming the halls doing prefect duties, or mischief with Rory. Either way it had him roaming the castle at night instead of his room. Tonight, prefect duties finally coming to an end , he headed to the kitchen for a snack in hopes of catching a few hours sleep before class.
He entered with a yawn , smiling at the little elf that came up to him. " Chocolate milk and a ham sandwich please." He said running his hand through his hair. It took him a moment to realize he wasn't alone and another moment to realize who it was. A gentle smile played across his face as the looked at Lizz. They hadn't talked much recently, Landon saw to that, his jealousy keeping them as far away from each other as possible.
" Hello Beautiful." He said smiling as he walked over to her flopping down in a chair next to her . "Everything okay?" He asked taking in her exhausted appearance and tired demeanor . He gently pushed a strand of hair from her face. " Your boyfriend still taking care of you?" He never said Landon's name if he could help it. It cause a wave of anger when he did that he knew Lizz didn't need.

Lizz hadn’t been expecting company. In fact, she had hoped to be left alone that night, so she could just eat in peace and then go back to her dorm so she could sleep and hopefully have enough energy to do well on her test the next day. That’s all she really cared about. But, her hopes were dashed when she heard the door to the kitchen open and footsteps sound against the floor, echoing around the silent room. She stifled a groan, and quickly shoved another spoonful of green jell-o and raspberries in her mouth, trying to eat faster so she could leave sooner. She didn’t want to be stuck for a long period of time with someone who would try to be nice and talk to her, or somebody who would annoy her about her large pregnancy stomach. Either situation would be annoying in her opinion.
Shoving another spoonful of jell-o in her mouth, she was about to take another when she recognized the voice that spoke to the house elf. Quickly swallowing what she had in her mouth, she turned her head to look at Connie, who just then seemed to see her and it seemed to take him a moment to recognize her. Had she changed that much over the time since they had last spoken? Lizz didn’t remember precisely when that was, since her memory seemed to be getting worst over time, but it didn’t seem like that long to her. A small, tired smile stretched on her lips as he finally seemed to register who she was and made his way towards her.
As usual, he had to greet her with a compliment that brought a blush to her cheeks that she desperately tried to hide behind her hair, as usual. Even though they were just friends, he was still able to make her blush so easily. She didn’t know if it was because she still liked him, or just because she blushed easily when it came to compliments or small acts performed by others around her. Or maybe she just blushed easily in general. However, it didn’t matter at that moment. All that mattered was the fact that she was humiliated about her reddening cheeks. “Hey,” she mumbled in her small, shy voice, a smile still stretched on her lips.
Quickly wanting to hide her crimson cheeks, Lizz turned back to her bowl of jell-o and ate another spoonful of it, keeping her eyes on the table as she slowly chewed it. It was only when Connie spoke again that she turned her head over to face him, swallowing what was left in her mouth. She immediately nodded at his question, not wanting to bother him with her sleeping problems. “Yeah, I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?” She forced a smile on her face, but it didn’t look 100% sincere like she wanted it to look. It quickly dropped though when the topic of Landon came up. Of course, he always had to be mentioned for some reason, which slightly annoyed her, since she knew that they both hated each other. “Yes, he is,” she simply said, a bit of bitterness behind her voice. She immediately felt guilty for it. “Though I am perfectly able to take care of myself,” she added afterwards, her voice softer this time, but still strong.
She quickly looked away in embarrassment, feeling stupid for reacting that way, and ate another spoonful of jell-o. The bowl was now half empty. “So... um... you excited for the year to end?” She asked after she swallowed, wanting to turn the conversation away from herself.

Connie gave a sigh. " I didn't mean to imply anything nor did I mean to upset you. I was just making sure you were doing okay. I don't get to see you as much as I use to , what with all this end of year bull crap and stuff." He smiled and shrugged , taking the food from the house elf and eating like he hadn't seen food in a month. All the extra training he had been doing recently had given him quite an appetite. It had also filled out his chest and arms some making Connie look much more like a man now then a young boy.
He thought a moment before he answered her. "I guess so. Excited and a little scared." He admitted. "I am gonna miss a lot of things around here and a lot of people, like you Tamber and Rory. It's all starting over again, ya know that old little fish in a big pond thing." He said with a laugh . " I get to do what I always dreamed of but yeah I admit I am a litte scared." He turned and looked at her. "How about you? "
He was feeling a bit unsure at the moment. Funny how he had never really stopped liking Lizz. No one else seemed to catch his attention like she had. He knew she was happy with Landon and would never do anything to mess that up for her. Hell she seemed happy and ,even if Connie didn't like it , Landon seemed to be taking good care of her. He watched the lights from the fire in the kitchen play in her hair for a moment and grinned shaking his head. She had no idea how beautiful she was.
"So do you know if it's a boy or a girl yet?" He asked cocking his head to the side as he watched her play with her jello. " Pick out any names?" He wasn't sure if this was something she would even want to talk about . He figured she had excepted it by now and might even be looking forward to the child being born.

Lizz simply nodded at Connie’s apology, avoiding looking him directly in the eye. She was still embarrassed by the way she had reacted just moments ago. She knew Connie hadn’t wanted to upset her, and he had meant no harm in that question. She had overreacted. She blamed it slightly on her hormones, which were going out of control still, but also on the fact that having her boyfriend and one of her best friends fight was putting a lot of stress on her, which wasn’t exactly something she needed at the moment. Taking a deep breath, she quickly calmed herself down before she got all wound up again over nothing. Taking a chance to glance over at Connie, she saw him eating his sandwich like he was a starving pig who hadn’t been fed in weeks. Unable to stop herself, a small giggle escaped her lips. “You look hungry. Are the teachers giving you too much detention for you to have time to eat with the rest of us?” She asked sarcastically, a smirk stretching on her lips.
Turning back to her food, she swallowed another spoonful of green jell-o with raspberries, the sweetness satisfying her cravings and making the baby quite happy – or at least in her mind he or she was happy with the sweets – before she turned back her attention to Connie. She wasn’t exactly surprised by his answer. She knew that he was nervous about leaving Hogwarts and Rory behind, since he had told her so before, but still excited about starting his new life and living his Quidditch dreams. It’s basically how any student would react. “I’m sure you’ll be great.” She flashed him a comforting smile. She knew he would be fine out there. He could handle himself perfectly well on his own. “And soon you’ll be swimming with the big fish as if you’ve always been there,” she added with a small laugh.
It was only when the topic returned to her that the smile slightly dropped off her face. The end of the school year wasn’t exactly something she liked thinking about. Sure, it meant the end of another year and the end of the teasing and staring, but it also meant the end of her large stomach, which meant one thing: giving birth, something she was terrified about. The date was approaching very quickly, and the closer it came, the more anxious Lizz became. “I-I dunno...” She said honestly. “It’ll be nice to get away from here and all the stares, but...” She drifted off again, looking away from Connie and instead staring at the counter top. “After this summer, everything will change.” She swallowed another spoonful of jell-o as a distraction, so she would have a reason not to talk anymore. Talking about her pregnancy, and how close the delivery was scared her. And how would she deal with a new born baby the next year at school, which would be her 7th and final year at Hogwarts, so basically the most important year?! She didn’t know.
“I’m gonna really miss you next year,” she said without thinking about it first, a little surprised when the words came out of her mouth. But it was true. She would miss him and the slight stability he brought in her life. “It won’t be the same without you here,” she added, still avoiding to look him in the eyes, now hiding her burning red cheeks with her hair, which flowed around her face like a veil, hiding her from sight. She began playing around with her food, poking and prodding it with her spoon, avoiding to take her eye away from it. It was a distraction from what she had just said, and the fear of how Connie would react to such a thing.
But then Connie saved her, probably seeing her humiliation, and changed the subject. It wasn’t exactly a subject she was 100% interested in talking about, but it was better then just sitting there in awkward silence for the next few minutes. She shook her head, looking back up at Connie, answering both questions in one shot. “I didn’t want to find out yet.” When she had gone to the healer a few times, he had suggested telling her the sexe of her baby, but she denied the offer. She didn’t want to know. Just like she didn’t want to choose the name of her baby before he or she was born. She would decide that moment after their birth. That just made more sense to her.

Funny thing about the mind and how it works. Sure Connie had been listening to everything Lizz said and nodding or commenting as it was called for as he finished his food, but something about the way she said she would miss him latched on to his brain and just lingered. He seemed lost in thought as she continued to answer his questions but he would be hard pressed to remember what she had said if asked.
A grin formed on his lips as he looked up watching her blush. He still had to wonder why he had that effect on her. She seemed happy enough with Landon and had settled into the role that was going to be thrust on her soon of mother of Landon's child. Why did telling him that she would miss him make her blush? Was there something there? Something that at one time had been a possibility before Landon showed up? Connie knew he still had feeling for Lizz, he never denied it but it rather baffled him that she might just possibly be hiding some of her own. He shook his head. Naw, he had to be imagining things, something Rory told him he did a lot. Still......
"No things won't be the same around here with out me. They will be a hell of a lot quieter." He laughed referring to all the mischief he regularly found himself involved in. " Well and maybe the Gryffindor Quidditch team will be a little more rested with out me scheduling them to practice all the time. " He grinned knowing he was compared often to Ollver Wood who was known for his dedication and sometimes extreme methods for working his team. He looked over at Lizz and smiled at her just watching her for a moment.
"Don't think that you still won't see me from time to time. Heck you can come watch me play if you want and well I have some very special people still here at Hogwarts that I have to keep an eye on." He said in a way that made it clear she was one of these. "I'm going to miss you too Lizz." If Landon had heard the way he had said that simple phrase it would have had him flying for Connie's throat. There was no mistaking the feelings Connie put into it, a wistful smile playing across his lips.
Heck what did he have to lose if he let a few things slip. He was gone in matter of weeks and Landon held no fear for him. Connie had slowly come to grips with the fact that for what ever reason Landon had been Lizz's choice and that she loved him. He often wondered at the other male's apparent jealousy were he was concerned. He gave Lizz another smile , glad she couldn't read his mind, and leaned his chair back against the wall.

A small laugh escaped her lips, the slight awkwardness she had felt previously quickly disappearing, much to her relief. Connie always knew how to make her feel comfortable, which was probably why she was so close to him. He was the one person around who she could be completely open and just let loose a little. “I doubt it’ll be that quiet with Rory still here for another year,” she said, referring to Connie’s best friend. She didn’t know Rory that well herself, but she knew him enough to know that, as long as he attended Hogwarts, things would never be peaceful. Somehow, the boy always had some new trick up his sleeve to impress his classmates – or annoy them to death, depending on who the person was.
Turning her attention back to her bowl of jell-o, she finished it up in just two spoonfuls, feeling nice and satisfied. She pushed the bowl over to the side, a house-elf quickly scurrying over to take it away, and she turned her full attention back on Connie. She smiled at his suggestion to go watch some of his games. She wasn’t a fan of Quidditch too much, but she knew he loved the sport so much, and there was nothing nicer then to see a friend doing something they loved. “I would love that,” she responded earnestly. She knew that if Landon knew he would probably flip out, but it’s not like he would have to know. She was perfectly able to keep some things private from him. And it’s not like he had control over her life. She was just as independent as she had been before she had met Landon.
There was no misunderstanding the emotions, and the meaning, as Connie spoke about keeping an eye on some special people at Hogwarts and how much he would miss her the next year. Lizz knew he liked her. He had told her himself the day she had found out she was pregnant. And though she felt horribly guilty for it, she tried not to let it make their friendship awkward. However, what she didn’t know was how she felt about him. Since she had agreed to be in a relationship with Landon, she had been extremely confused about her feelings towards Connie. She knew she loved Landon, there was no denying that, and she wasn’t in a relationship with him simply because of the child, but did she still have feelings for Connie as well? Her heart seemed indecisive when it came to that, and though she tried to figure out the jumbled mess of her emotions, she was also afraid to find out something she didn’t exactly want to know.
Her thoughts were stopped as she felt a soft kicking against her stomach, which suddenly got harder. She let out a small grunt of pain as the child in her stomach kept kicking away. It wasn’t the worst pain imaginable, but it wasn’t exactly pleasant either. Lizz didn’t know why some women enjoyed the kicking so much. Yeah, the child was moving inside of her, but it wasn’t that exciting, at least not her in opinion. It was just one of the many pains of pregnancy.
