End of September 2025
“Alright, please take your seats. We have a lot to get through today.” Lilith closed the door behind what should have been the last student, anyone else was late. She had a class to teach and wasn’t about to let a tardy child take any more attention than necessary.
“Fourth and Fifth years, will be practicing the fire-drawing charm today. As the name suggests, the charm allows you to draw shapes, letters, and even words in the air. Does anyone know the incantation or how this charm can be used?” Lilith thought most charms, even the outdated ones, served a purpose in the modern world. The fire-drawing charm was less than subtle and had been replaced with several other charms and enchantments. Still, if they were bored enough, they could use it as a source of entertainment.
The more advanced charm was probably the more useful of the two. “Sixth and Seventh years, as you may have guessed from your assigned reading, you will be practicing the flame-freezing charm, Flammae Tepesco. Can anyone tell me what this charm has been used for, and how it is still used today?”

The spell they were about to learn was something Maeve hadn't tried before, although she knew the theory of its use. "The Flame-Freezing Charm has been used by witches and wizards during the witch-hunts, to avoid getting burned alive." She could only guess at how many wizarding folk had been captured by Muggles forcefully, and how many allowed capture merely for entertainment - like Wendelin the Weird. Few real witches died during the burnings, but a lot of wrongly accused Muggles perished. Their kind probably did evolve from monkeys, inept as they were. "Nowadays, the charm is still used to quickly cool the flames when a fire breaks out, to protect property and people from being harmed."

Charms was always an interesting subject as it exposed the young Ravenclaw to potential spells he may find useful. That or he would also practise spells he had already learned. Although he had heard of the spell Professor Channing was mentioning, he had never thought about practising it before.
Getting comfortable in class, he gave a slight nod to Maeve before raising his hand and awaited his turn. " Is it Flagrate, Professor?" He responded as he waited for a split second of silence before acknowledging what the other students were doing and as he waited for Maeve to finish.

Calvin was still in awe of what was around him. The school was both gloomy yet the little bits of sunlight coming through was the perfect balance between darkness and light. Finding himself in a seat near the middle of the classroom was exactly where he imagined he would be sitting in these types of classes.
The professor seemed as stern as ever yet Calvin didn't actually mind it too much. It gave law and order vibes and despite being a little rule break of his own, he knew not to play risk with this Professor. Instead, he took out a note book and began writing down what was being said in class.
Charms was the one class that Henri really enjoyed and was only second to his strongest subject. He enjoyed practical subjects more so than he did theoretical studies but he knew that just all came with schooling. Taking a seat in the corner, he opened up a notebook and began to write down what was being said in class.

Jarod sat somewhere on his own as he listened to the professor. Then he glanced down as he sighed. Jarod listened as the professor asked the questions as he listened to the other students answer her. He got out a notebook and wrote down everything that was taught. Jarod silently repeated the word in his mind in order to remember it. He then stopped once he was sure that he was ready to cast it. Jarod just hoped not to accidently create fire instead as he tried not to think of that as he hoped for the best as he sat there and listened closely i. Class. As Jarod did the best that he could to listen as much as possible.

Annabelle sat in class and listened. She took notes as she prepered to cast the spell the minute it was time to do that. Annabelle glanced around her and shook her head. She was ready to ace her glasses this year, since she was repeating her fifth year she planned to finish it and go to her 6th year finally. Annabelle couldn't wait. She tried not to think lf thay but focus on her classes instead of anything else. Last year things happened to stop her from graduating but this year she planned to have thinds be different. As Annabelle wanted to graduatr after all. Which was exactly what she planned to do, no matter what.

Whilst Levi waited for the professor's response, he noticed what Maeve had just previously said. It was advanced magic considering he was only a fifth year but it was interesting none the less. He dripped his quill into his notebook before he took note of what Maeve was saying. It wouldn't hurt to try and practise this type of magic when he had the time. He smiled toward her and waited for the Professor to respond still to his answer.
Learning new magic was always exciting especially for Henri who loved to practise physical magic. By which of course he meant being able to cast, produce and conjure certain things. Charms was his second best subject and he wanted to do his best to not only impress the Professor which seemed difficult to do but also help serve in his own pack. Surely someone excelling in Charms and Transfiguration was an important person in the pack right?

Leo had always adored charms, and he was glad to be considered among the older students in the class. Of course, that didn't mean he was the best student, as hard as he tried, because Maeve answered first. He felt like it would be rude if he answered the question for the younger students, so he let it go while he considered what they might be doing with the flame-freezing charm today. Hopefully it would be something cool.
Leo is blind. Don't expect him to notice your character waving at him.

Julian was leaning back in his seat, arms crossed as he gazed out the window, watching the rain fall outside. Charms was not his favourite class as he was often paired up with another student to practice - but as it was his Head of Houses' domain, he was respectful and attentive. Professor Channing was firm but fair, in his opinion - and she was not someone who appreciated tardiness or disruptions in her classes - which meant that they almost always ran smoothly.
Given his recent interactions with Hilfiger - where the boy had opted for aggression - Julian had chosen to seat himself instead beside the other Slytherin in the class - Annabelle Beckett. Although they had never really interacted, he was minimally comfortable sitting beside her given her pureblood status. Julian could hear her quill scratching on parchment as she took notes, ears perked to listen to the Professor introduce the class. Fire Drawing Charm. The rain was falling harder now, and pattered lightly against the windows.
Both Thorne and Hilfiger offered answers to the Professors questions, while Julian wondered if the charm could be used to carve words or shapes on objects, which could be useful to mark locations or leave messages in a hurry.

Fire-drawing charm. Tynan sat sullenly in the back of the classroom, his quill tip dragging across the cluttered parchment beneath it. Was he taking notes? No, of course not. Instead of really paying attention he was thinking about how weird it was to live with a family and feel so...out of place. Maybe he just wasn't family material? Too old and broken to fit in with the perfect little happy buddle he'd been dragged into suddenly not to long ago. So as the others listened and answered questions he angrily scratched out a dragon on his papers and thought about whether he should take his OWLs before dropping out of if he should just take the train to London this Christmas and not come back.

Phoebe very much liked the idea of playing with fire, so she was pretty excited for this lessons. She was less thrilled when she realised what spell they would be practicing. The Fire-drawing charm? What was that supposed to be useful for? She wished she could do what the older kids were doing. That would mean they could go into fire and not get burnt, which seemed awesome to Phoebe. Since no one else seemed to have an answer to the purpose of the Fire-drawing charm, she gave it a shot.
“Professor, could you use the fire-drawing charm as a sort of attention attractor? Like if you were lost at sea and there was a ship that came along, could you cast the spell and wave your wand so it could see and rescue you?” This response was as good a guess as she could come up with having not really read the textbook, although it did overlook the fact that most accomplished wizards were unlikely to get lost at sea. Being back at Hogwarts after all that had happened felt like he stepped onto a set of a movie. Like he had to play a part that was not him in a fictional world. He wasn’t even sure if he could perform in this class. Considering he had to verbalize the charms and his vocal cords were still healing. Until now he always wore his uniform loosely but from now on he made sure every button was up and his tie sealed the deal. Even if the tightness gave unease, he didn’t want anyone to see the scar on his throat.
He decided to take notes and observe his classmates which was unlike him to do. So he could practice this stuff for when his voice would return.

Gavyn was excited for today's lesson, if their homework was anything to go by they would be freezing flames today. He was not disappointed either as Professor Channing got around to the sixth and seventh years. It was still weird to be in the older year group now with only these last two to figure out what he was going to do when he graduated. Oh well, he'd figure it out after he graduated right? "Oh wow, really? Did the spell come because of the witch-hunts or is it older than them?"
