Pippa spent that morning near the greenhouses, where she noticed a few violets here and there. Since the sun seemed to be drying them anyways, weather in August being drier even in Scotland that year, she decided to pick them up and use the lovely petals to create a sugared violet jam or paste commonly used for desserts in the wizarding world.
Her mom would be so happy to taste that jam again, surely, she thought, very well aware it was something her grandma prepared very often. She entered the common room that day with a broad smile on her face, carrying these petals in her arms proudly. She'd normally rush to her dorm and hope no one saw her, but a cat she could recognise very well by now drew her attention. Wanting to lower herself down and pat her, Pippa managed to let go of the sheet where she gathered the petals. Since the window was opened, they ended up scattered all over the common room. "Oh no..." she said, looking genuinely concerned. She evidently never ever tore a flower in the past and let it go to waste. It seemed like she had a lot of work to do if she wanted to get them all back, but the cat was also demanding her attention.

In the weeks that followed the train crash, Charlie had felt a little overly attached to Juniper. Which was fair considering there had been a moment where she thought she'd never see her again. But the cat did not take kindly to being followed around so closely. The more Charlie tried to coax her to stay in the dorm, the more she protested. She kept her inside the castle as best she could but even then, she took to lurking in the common room instead of upstairs. It was an improvement from last year. At least she wasn't trying to jump out and swat at people.
When Juniper disappeared from the end of her bed, Charlie knew exactly where to look. She found the fluffy gray feline just as a breeze swept across the common room. She seemed to be looking for attention from Pippa, who she realized had just lost hold of a bundle of petals. "Oh! Here let me help you." Charlie rushed forward. She knelt beside Pippa and began picking petals up one by one. "These are pretty. What are you using them for?" Clearly Juniper didn't want to be left out, as she then began to rub against Pippa's leg.

Thakfully the girl who approached her swiftly, offering to help, was someone Pippa found to be a very familiar face, the very least. She has seen the older student several times across the past three years spent at Hogwarts. "T...T...Thank you!" Her cheeks went bright red, but at least she managed to respond in a polite manner.
"I was hoping to make sugared violet jam", this time she sounded less nervous when answering, maybe because her mind was telling the Griffindor student that she knew this girl. Initially, she felt mostly anxious because of her popping up unexpectedly. "My mom likes it a lot." she explained, still feeling grateful about her nuclear family being at Hogwarts. She was very lucky, and probably one of the only students who had both her mother and twin sister, as well as a bunch of cousins at the school, all in the same safezone.
Feeling Juniper rub against her leg made Pippa chuckle. She held tightly onto the petals she already gathered, but obviously could not ignore the cute cat. "She is amazing..." she gave her a pat, knowing exactly how to make the cat feel well. She knew already that Juniper belonged to Charlotte, since she saw the two together previously. The cat's presence definitely helped her relax. "If... if you keep an eye on her, I will get the rest of the petals... It is my fault for letting them go like that." Of course someone had to hug the cat and offer their entire attention to her. The petals could wait a bit longer, which was why Pippa was just making sure Juniper received the treatment and attention she requested.

For a moment, Charlie worried that Juniper had done something to make Pippa upset. Maybe she actually had been jumping out and clawing people again. But she was quickly reminded, that was just how Pippa acted sometimes. She turned her eyes away from the girls' blushing cheeks as she gathered some more of the petals. At the mention of jam, she raised her eyebrows. "Sugared violet jam?" She held up one of the petals. "You make it with, petals? Is it very sweet?" The only jams she'd ever tasted were grape and berry. But the English always seemed so fond of jams, maybe it was a thing.
She grinned as Juniper earned a chuckle from Pippa. "I hope she's been polite. She'll do anything for a scratch, especially right under her chin..." She reached her free hand to scratch the cat's favorite spot, and almost immediately, she began purring. Charlie was happy to help, but she didn't want to step on Pippa's toes. She sat back, holding the handful of petals close to her. "Are you sure? I don't mind helping at all. Juniper's always like this. If I gave in every time, she'd never let me stop petting her." She chuckled and gave the cat another scratch.

"It is quite flagrant due to the flower petals." Pippa let Charlotte know, evidently thinking seriously about a suitable answer to the girl's question. "I reckon it is very sweet too, but adding lime can help with making it more refreshing." The tangy flavour of lime definitely improved the taste of the jam, the younger Gryffindor thought.
"She is one of the most polite cats I met..." it was true, although there were not that many cats Pippa met, in the first place. Buying one was more expensive than getting a toad or a rat and high maintenance. They were also less practical than an owl, so she expected to receive an owl from her mom, but not really a cat - if it made sense. When Juniper started purring, Pippa smiled and closed her eyes, focussing on the relaxing sound, looking slightly more calm when she opened them again.
"Thank you, only if it is not too much trouble. I... I might have something for Juniper." she told the other girl, letting her know that she will be back in a moment. She rushed to her dorm, grabbing a large, loose winter jumper and some fresh towels. She tied the sleeves of the jumper and corners, turning it into an improvised basket/sleeping place for a cat.
After adding the fluffy towels on top, it was going to be extra soft. She went back to the common room, a beaming smile on her face. "This will do. Juniper can rest here, while we're gathering the remaining petals." she suggested, hoping Charlotte would agree with that idea. "Does she have any favourite treats?" It seemed important to know more about the cat and what made Juniper happy.

Charlie had never baked anything in her life. Well there was the one time, with Cadence, but her older sister had done most of the work. And though she paid close enough attention in Herbology, she'd never once heard of a jam made out of flower petals. Naturally, she thought all jams must be sweet, hence her question. "Hmm, I'm not quite sure I know what flowers taste like." With a bit of lime it sounded like a peculiar flavor. Maybe, she thought, it was just an English thing.
She accepted Pippa's compliment with a delighted grin. Not that it was aimed at her, but she deserved at least some credit for training Juniper. After all, it had been no easy task. "Oh thank you. She hasn't always been that way." She gave her cat a knowing look. "I don't know if you remember, but when I first got her she was an absolute tyrant." Okay maybe tyrant was a strong word, but Charlie had the scars to prove it.
She gave Pippa a puzzled look as she disappeared. In the meantime, Charlie sat on the floor and plopped Juniper in her lap. The younger girl soon returned and a smile spread across her face when she realized. "That's a wonderful idea. She loves anything fluffy and very cozy. She's a bit spoiled, really." Almost immediately Juniper leapt out of Charlie's lap. She inspected the makeshift bed, sniffing at it for a moment. With a satisfied purr she nestled herself on top of it. "Looks like she likes it. Oh, her favorite treats...well I once gave her a piece of bacon left over from my breakfast. So I suppose, anything with meat in it. Though you don't have to go to the trouble of saving her any of your breakfast." She chuckled. Once Juniper was settled in, Charlie got to work on gathering more of the petals.

Given there were so many flowers in the world, Pippa was not quite certain how all tasted either, to be honest. She looked confused for a moment, deciding to say something eventually, not sure whether her reply would be helpful at all. "There are multiple edible flowers actually, all tasting quite differently. I always thought roses are sweeter than chrysanthemums, for example." she said, hoping her housemate won't think that she or her family were strange. Mean rumours such as 'the Weasleys are eating everything' could spread like fire. After all, it seemed easier to start calling someone weird names and laughing about how strange they were, rather than trying to understand differences in preference or perhaps in culture.
It was difficult not to chuckle when she recalled Charlotte's first few months spent with Juniper - calling the cat a tyrant at that time. "I am glad you got to know each-other better. It takes time for cats to get used to a new home..." perhaps bringing Juniper from her home to Hogwarts had also been challenging, especially since felines were rather territorial.
She tried not to look too happy or too satisfied with herself when Charlie's cat decided to nestle herself on top of the makeshift bed. "Have you been to the kitchen before?" Pippa asked, this time on a lower tone of voice. "I hear house elves are always happy to give small treats to both students and their furry pals. Quite sure we could grab some nice sardines or something similar for Juniper, after we gather all the petals." she suggested, wondering if her housemate was going to accept to visit the kitchen with her, later that day

As Pippa seemed paused in thought, something occurred to Charlie. She glanced up for a moment trying to recall the name of the flower that had been in a tea she used to drink. "Actually, I've had chamomile tea before now that I think about it." Her mother started giving it to her when her mind had once been so active at night, she couldn't sleep. "We mixed honey in it. That was quite delicious." She nodded as if to affirm the memory. Discussing the flower tea reminded her of another. "Oh, and once I had a lavender cupcake. It was a bit peculiar, but good. Do you ever bake flowers into things?"
Pippa likely had more knowledge on the temperament of cats than she had upon first adopting Juniper. But to be fair, her brother's cat, the only other one she'd ever gotten to know, was the sweetest thing in comparison. "It took a lot of coaxing." She grinned. "I've since learned that moving to Hogwarts is a less exciting thing for a cat, than it was for us students. At least at first. But, she does get rather excited about exploring the lawns now. And I think she even wanders into the forest on occasion." She gave Juniper a knowing look, which the cat completely ignored.
She raised her eyebrows at the possible venture to the kitchens. "I've only ever seen inside the kitchens once." The look of intrigue remained on her face as Pippa explained. "Oh, let's do it." The pace at which she gathered the petals seemed to increase just a little. But she paused suddenly in the middle of reaching for one. "Do you think we should bring Juniper along?" She looked to the cat, now happily kneading Pippa's makeshift bed. "Or will they be less inclined to give her something if she jumps on the counter or something?"

Pippa started smiling, looking actually relieved when Charlotte recalled she had flowers, not only in her tea, but also in a cupcake. "I don't think we are baking flowers directly. My family either makes a jam out of them and then adds it to cakes or we use rose water or something similar and soak the cake in it... I do sometimes munch on the flowers if they are in my tea." she let her know, sounding slightly more confident this time in what she was saying, no longer trying to hide that she genuinely thought flowers could also be a very important ingredient when it came to preparing desserts or hot drinks.
It was very interesting to hear someone mention the forbidden forest, since Pippa heard a lot about all the magical creatures living there. "Did you ever go inside the forest yourself?" the was a small glimmer in her eyes already. "Did Juniper come back safely every time you thought she might have entered the forbidden forest?" because, acording to the younger gryffindor's logic, if the cat returned safely, then they would too.
She nodded, standing up and making her way out, still thinking about the forest, when Charlie mentioned Juniper once again. "We definitely can bring her along. I doubt they would mind if she jumps on the counter... They are usually very happy to help, whatever the request is, as long as it is related to food and drinks or something house elves would be able to offer. " she replied almost immediately. "Umh, you've been studying here for a slightly longer period...Did you hear any stories or incidents about students exploring the forest?" She had a difficult time understanding why not more of their classes were not held there, such as the herbology one. Even during the COMC one, no one was really allowed to wander around and check out the surrounding areas.
