January was cold but at least Will was back at Hogwarts. Spending the holiday with his adopted mom was weird. He's rather be with his friends and books. Now that he was back at school, he'd written his best friend to meet him. In his hand, he had a small box with a tiny bow on it. But waiting for Roxanne to show up was making him a little bit extra nervous. He rocked forward on his heels since there was just extra energy in him.
This was better then just studying but there way always the fact that she might hate it. She could hate it. But something in his soul said she wouldn't.

Christmas had been fun but Roxanne was glad to be back at Hogwarts with her friends. She had some new books and clothes and was excited for the second half of her school year.
For some reason, Will asked her to meet him in the owlery. It wasn't their usual spot, which felt a little confusing. Sometimes it was a little messy with all the owl poop too, but hopefully today wouldn't be too bad. Maybe he needed help writing a letter.
She entered and saw him there and smiled brightly. "Hey, Will!" she said as she walked briskly towards him and hugged him without delay. "How was your holiday?"

Honestly Will was glad that Roxanne was there. It just felt nice to be around her. "I'm glad to be back here." He meant it. When his sister came to Hogwarts, he'd have no safe space. But for right now, he loved the idea of getting to be away from her. "How was yours?" He couldn't remember but he hoped she had a better family relationship.
"Oh I did get you something. I wanted to give it to you away from everyone else." The tips of his ears were a little bit pink. It wasn't too embarrassing, but he didn't want everyone seeing it.

"I'm glad you're back too. I mean -- I know you like it here better." Of course, she was glad to see him, she just didn't want it to sound weird. Though maybe it did with that sudden change of direction. "It was really good. But I'm glad to be back. I missed... people." Again, not wanting to sound too obvious, but her eyes had a knowing look, like she subconsciously wanted Will to know that she missed him.
"Oh really?" Roxanne was surprised. "I got you something too, but it's in my dorm..." Roxanne couldn't believe she was so stupid to leave it there. She was just so excited to see him and forgot to pick it up. It was tucked away in her trunk. "What is it?" she asked excitedly.

Will grinned. "I know I'm one of the few, but I'd love to be at Hogwarts all of the time." Most people wanted to leave and go other places. But Will wanted to be in the castle with people. At long as he got to avoid Luna and Clementine, he was pleased. He didn't write letters home. He didn't do anything like that. But he was pretty sure Roxanne liked her family.
She'd also gotten him a present? That was so nice. But he pushed the present towards her. "Well I can't just tell you what it is. You have to open it." It wasn't anything grand. A journal with a pretty cover, fresh quills, and then a thing of friendship bracelets. They were the style where one person got one and the other got the other one. But he didn't want to assume he'd be the f to her bf.

"Well you don't have to be a muggleborn to admit that Hogwarts is pretty amazing." Roxanne grinned. It really was so grand and beautiful. She felt that sometimes everyone took advantage of it a little bit, even herself. It was so normal to be living in a castle full of so many magical objects and enchantments everywhere. Of course, her home had magical objects and enchantments too, but she didn't live in a castle with vast grounds as well.
Sometimes Roxanne didn't understand why Will didn't like his family, but maybe they just didn't quite vibe the same way or something. She had met them and they seemed perfectly nice. Although his mother was a little on the strange side. But not in a bad way.
Roxanne opened the present and gasped when she saw what was inside. It was a beautiful journal and some quills and a couple of bracelets. Friendship bracelets? "Are these for both of us? You silly, you didn't need to pack your own in the present too." Roxanne laughed. She thrust one of them to Will as she put the rest of the presents down for a moment. She was still holding her bracelet as she wrapped her arms around Will in a tight hug. "Thank you, I love it!"
The hug lingered a little long but then she let go and focused on putting on her bracelet on her wrist so she didn't have to think about the hug, or at least she could pretend like she wasn't.

Will tried to not blush, but the tips of his ears turned red as he heard Roxanne talk about her present. "I didn't want to assume that I'd get the other bracelet." But she was picking him to get it, which made him feel better. Unlike him, Roxanne had more friends. She liked people and they liked her. Which was good! It was important. But he always felt lucky that he managed to be her close friend. Especially now.
The hug took him by surprise, but he did manage to not freeze. His arms were around her. Even if the hug was over before he would have liked it to be, he could pretend like everything was fine and normal. But his ears remained a bright red. "Have you started studying for exams?" Ah yes, the safe thing to talk about. The normal thing.
Not that Will was so socially awkward it was painful or anything.

Will hadn't put his own bracelet on yet so Roxanne grabbed it from him and started to put it on his wrist as she spoke. "No... Should I have?" she laughed. "I guess so, but it's too early to worry about that! Though that'll probably be us next year with the OWLs looming over us the whole year." Roxanne was nervous about those quite a bit, but they were ages away. Though 'ages away' always seemed to sneak up on them rather quickly.
"There," she said as they each had their bracelets on. Roxanne interlocked her fingers with Will's and kept them like that as they continued to talk about exams. It was such an important thing in her mind, that they were holding hands like that, and yet she tried to act like it was of little consequence. "What about you? Have you started studying yet?"
