QUIDDITCH WORLD CUP
This summer, the magnificent Quidditch World Cup was held once again. Spain hosted the event. Despite a devastating and more than humiliating loss against the Netherlands in the first round, their spirits were high all during the event.
The position of the favourite team, Ireland, seemed to take a rather large dent when it was noted that their Seeker had been replaced with a young lady fresh out of school. In the course of the tournament, another favourite popped up and the United States proved to make their fans extremely happy. They made the final as they took out France in the semi-final in a devastating blow. Ireland managed to scrape by in a narrow escape against Australia, securing their place in the final.
As was much expected, the matched proved to be everything we had hoped for and expected. Bludgers knocked around the field, attempting to cause harm to many players. Ireland and the United States had a fairly equal race when it came to the amount of goals. However, as both teams seemed to be equipped with excellent Keepers, the amount of actual goals was surprisingly low. Any gamblers must have lost large amounts of money.
The young Irish Seeker was hit and forced off the field due to an injury. For a while, Ireland had to hold their breath while Lyon was patched up to once again resume the search for the Snitch.
Naturally, the American Seeker had taken full advantage of his time to seek the Snitch. After an epic race through the stadium, the two Seekers raced in the final bound towards the Snitch. But in the end, the new Irish Seeker unexpectedly caught the golden ball. This landed the final score at 70 for the United States and a whopping 210 for Ireland.
The Irish found their pride against the expectations from the critics and celebrated the victory over the Americans deep into the night. It was Quidditch at its finest and we can't wait to see the next World Cup played in 2007!

sweeping the nation A new broom sweeps through the market! The Cleansweep thirteen is finally here! But wait, what happened to the Cleansweep Twelve? Wasn’t their last make the Eleven? Did they forget how to count? No, in fact, they did not forget how to count. As it turns out, they decided to drop the Twelve before it was finished for unknown reasons. We aren’t complaining that they were more in favour of the thirteen, though, because it is over twice as fast as the Eleven! With a top speed of 150 mph, it matches up with the original Firebolt, and after eight years, we are definitely excited to see a new Cleansweep on the market. Of course, it is a bit pricey at 25 Galleons, but for a new Cleansweep, we at the Daily Prophet think it is definitely worth it. It is without a doubt their best broom yet, and hopefully a preview of what we can expect from this line of brooms in the next few years. We’re really looking forward to seeing it in action! | keep calm and carry on As part of our 'Keep Calm and Carry On' series, we keep you up to date with the current war efforts. Former Head of International Magical Cooperation, Lenore Greenleaf, has been found dead in her London apartment. According to the Auror’s office, Miss Greenleaf was poisoned, although further information wasn’t given. However, our sources say that the poison that killed the lady came from a bottle of wine she’d allegedly gotten during a visit in Italy. The Ministry doesn’t exclude the possibility that Miss Greenleaf was murdered by Italy to suffer yet another blow to our great nation. Miss Greenleaf had been in Italy prior to her death and although the Ministry assures this visit was purely social, there have been rumours that Miss Greenleaf was attempting to gather intelligence on the enemy and was successful before her untimely death. The Aurors remain on the case, although they refused to give any comments about who killed her and whether or not more Ministry employees may or may not be in danger. |
