Ashworth had come to Honeydukes to stock up on sweets for the kids. There was a blessed lack of students since it was not a Hogsmeade Weekend. Ashworth was still inherently shy but he was getting a lot better now. Being forced into a leadership role could do that to a person, he supposed. He had no idea where Warwick had ended up but he hoped his ex-fiance was happy. Ashworth had to tell himself that the man had a good reason for ghosting both him and the Sanctuary they had worked so hard to build.
Noticing a display, his stomach dropped a little. Valentines. It had been four years now since he'd had a Valentine of the romantic variety. Warwick had been his first love and he had yet to date at all. After four years, it still hurt.
"Do you think children would enjoy cinnamon candy hearts? Or if they would prefer chocolate ones?" Ashworth asked someone random curiously, just to get his mind back on track.

It was pretty scandalous that Amos did not have a date for Valentine’s Day. He always had a date! Always! But for some strange reason, he had not been able to twirl a hot guy around his little finger. He usually got overly obsessed about the whole concept of the American “holiday”. He demanded flowers (roses), chocolates, fancy dinners and of course lots of bedroom action in the end of the evening. Amos felt extremely hurt and unwanted this year as Valentine’s Day came nearer, and it did not help serving his current customers that mostly consisted of sweethearts. The young man had also been forced to decorate Madam Puddifoot’s Teashop in lots of hearts, flying cupids and cute lovey-dovey things that only reminded him of how lonely he was.
He was not in a good mood, no sir, and was seriously about to throw a fit at a poor Hogsmeade resident that almost bumped into him. The only thing that could make it all somewhat right again was sweets – and lots of it. He could always regret tomorrow. And of course, Amos was very much aware of the fact that they could not entire replace a pair of strong warm arms around him. He stopped in front of some cinnamon candy hearts and put a couple into a bag before having his blue eyes glancing curiously sideways at the stranger that suddenly spoke to him. “Children? I would definitely say that you should mix a little bit of both.” He sent the man a small smirk. “How old are your children?” Of course, Amos assumed that this stranger (handsome stranger) was a father.

Ashworth smiled shyly at the man who was kind enough to share his opinion. "Thank you," he said softly. The other man was quite tall and really beautiful looking, Ashworth thought. He began putting a bit of both into his basket and had not quite been expecting to be asked a question. "The youngest is a couple of months old and the oldest is in his mid twenties." He had some of his older brood coming around to visit so he wanted to make sure Aidan and the others also had some treats. Honestly, even if they weren't coming, he would have sent it in the mail.
They also weren't actually his children but he thought of them as his own. They were under his care and he deeply cared for each and every one of them. It didn't really occur to him that this man would think the children he was talking about were his own.

As the other sent him a shy smile, Amos replied with a confident one, flashing the other handsome man those pearly whites and a charming curl on the lips which he had picked up from those gorgeous veela women that have raised him. “A couple of months and candy?” He added – almost interrupting the stranger before his pale blue eyes went wide in confusion after hearing the next age his presumed child was. “Mid… Twenties?” Amos almost whispered as the gaze went down his body and up again, landing on the other’s face, shamelessly studying his mouth for fangs. “Are you a vampire?” The man asked rather boldly.
Amos has always been quite direct, but now that he stood in front of a potential vampire (and despite really loving the Twilight series), he felt his heart pick up speed, knowing that he might be putting himself in danger. “It’s quite an age gap to have between your youngest and your oldest.” Amos then once again commented rather stupidly until he suddenly realized that vampires couldn’t get children, so something did not really add up – especially if he should have fathered the kid who was just a couple of months old. Long fingers went through his pale hair as he let out a strange huff that should have sounded like a confused sigh.

Ashworth was oblivious to the confusion he had caused in the other as he stocked up on candy. He only nodded in confirmation when the other man repeated the ages he had said. He looked up at the other, equally confused, when he was asked if he was a vampire. He shook his head. "D-do I l-look like o-one?" He stammered out. He had not been sleeping well but was it that bad?
"Well, yes. Heart's Sanctuary takes in all ages for any children ones needing a home and we don't just kick them out once they age out of the system," he said. He suspected a couple also stuck around because they thought of the place as home. Though he had helped some find their own, independent lodgings. "Some choose to stay with me until they feel confident they can do it all on their own." Besides, the children's home being located right in Diagon Alley was very convenient for most of them while they were establishing the beginning roots of their chosen jobs.
“What?” Amos, who believed that he has never seen an actual vampire before, looked the stranger over again with keen blue eyes. “You don’t really look like one from the movies.” He ranted. “Your skin is not very pale, your eyes are not red, and you don’t have any fangs poking out. Besides, you walk around in broad daylight.” The squib sent him a teasing wink, flashing another one of his smiles. “It’s just, your age does not add up to those of your kids.” He explained as he picked up a pink heart-shaped lollipop from the display and put it in his basket together with the rest of the candy.
“Oh, oooh!” Suddenly Amos understood when the stranger mentioned that he worked at Heart’s Sanctuary. “I thought you were talking about your own biological children.” He let out a small airy laugher suddenly changing his behaviour entirely as he once again studied the other man – although, this time with far more interest than before. “My name is Amos, by the way, Amos Silver. I work at Madam Puddifoot’s.” He extended a pale hand with porcelain-like skin while lightly tilting his head, making a lock of blonde hair fall in front of his forehead.

Ashworth stared for a moment before laughing quietly himself once the misunderstanding was all cleared up. He could see how the other man might have misconstrued his words since they didn't know one another. "Oh no! No biological ones of my own," Ashworth said. Unlikely too given that he was very much single.
"Ashworth Heart, I run Heart's Sanctuary," Ashworth said in turn as the blond introduced himself, reaching out to gently shake the others hand. "Thanks for your suggestion about the candy. I like spoiling the kids so I probably would have ended up getting both anyway."

The pearly white smile that Amos sent this stranger just grew wider when he told him that he had no biological children of his own. “Really? Well, you do look a bit too young to be a father anyway.” Honestly, once reaching your 20’s it was difficult to figure out how old people were. He could see if someone was in their 30’s, but distinguish between 19 and 25 was often very hard for him. Not that age mattered much anyway, if you asked Amos.
Right when the man mentioned his name, Amos was picking up a red candy heart, turning to face him and grinning slightly. “Isn’t that convenient?” He commented before tasting the words. “Heart’s Sanctuary.” He shook his hand and let a tongue run over his lips. “So, are the children going to be your Valentine’s?” The man asked ever so casually, but secretly wanting to know if Ashworth was single. Because, boy… He was very handsome, and Amos would definitely not mind spending his Valentine’s Day with him… As long as he didn’t have to deal with any children. He didn’t like children very much.

Was 28 too young to be a father? Ashworth didn't think so but he wasn't about to argue against what this man seemed to believe. Besides, he had no idea how old this man thought that he was and he felt too awkward to just outright say it.
"How's that convenient? It was just named for me," Ashworth said, not really able to grasp what the other meant by his words. He did have to smile shyly as the blond asked if the children were going to be his Valentines. "I suppose they will be." Because honestly, who else was it going to be?

“Convenient meaning that it both fits your name, but also the intention of the sanctuary.” Amos gave him a small smile as he picked up a heart shaped lollipop. “Heart.” He showed it to the man as his blue eyes caught his gaze. “The sanctuary doing something straight from the heart. It is a good play on words.” He added as a final comment before putting the lollipop into his bag, removing his eyes from Ashworth and scanning the display with candy. While standing and talking with this man, Amos had barely noticed what he had grabbed from the shelves and had to take come of the candy out again with a little chuckle and a shake of his head.
When Ashworth confirmed that the kids would be his valentines, the young man shot him another curious glance, biting down his bottom lip for a thoughtful moment. “Really?” He asked somewhat surprised that a man looking as good as this stranger would be dateless on a day like today. “So, you are single? Not even interested in going on a blind date, just for the sake of Valentine’s Day?” Amos wondered curiously, as he slowly started to circle around the possibility that this one could be a potential date for today.

"I suppose I never thought about it like that," Ashworth mused with a smile. They really did care for the children with all their hearts. Well, he did at least. He couldn't speak for all of his employees. Ashworth grabbed a few more candies, including some for his own personal stash.
"Yes," he answered, a little disconcerted at being asked so directly if he was single. It had been years now but it still felt odd to say when he had been literally engaged. He shook his head at the prospect of a blind date. "I don't really... do that." Honestly, the idea of a blind date in general was horrifying.

Amos’ eyes followed Ashworth as he put more candy into his bag, curious about the other man (especially now that he has just learned he was dateless for Valentine’s Day just like himself). “Which candy is your favourite?” The man wondered as he stepped past the other, just to slightly brush his shoulder against his – completely by accident (but not really) of course, as he made his way to a stand where there were free samples of some new chocolate. He picked one up and popped it in his mouth. It was quite good, but he was not too fond of caramel-filled treats.
“Hmm…” Amos licked those fingers that were a bit stained with chocolate – one by one as he continued to stare at the shorter male. “I don’t mind blind dates. They can be fun now and then. But I prefer seeing the guy I am going to meet up with first.” And there he dropped the bomb – or well, it was not really a bomb, but still. He made Ashworth know he was interested in men. “Do you want to go on a date with me then?” Amos decided to ask boldly.

"I'm pretty partial to most chocolate," Ashworth said with a smile when the younger man asked which candy was his favourite. "Lollipops too." His skin flushed faintly when the other brushed his shoulder against his. The other man was very tall and the proximity causes his cologne - was it cologne or soap? Shampoo, maybe? - to fill Ashworths senses.
It was a little disorienting. Ashworth found himself staring as the other licked his fingers. He nodded in agreement, at least, to the seeing the guy first. If he did blind dates, he would prefer knowing what he was getting into too. He blushed right up to the tips of his ears as the other so boldly asked if he wanted to on a date.
He opened his mouth to answer, not knowing what to even say and then he didn't know why but he turned and bolted. Sadly, this did not mean an escape since he was stopped by the shop clerk since he was still holding unpaid purchases. His skin flushed deeper. How embarrassing! He couldn't even look the blond in the eye or at all.

Amos always made sure to smell... fantastic! He took very good care of himself, both going to fitness centers several times a week, but also generally grooming himself so that he always looked his best. He sent the handsome shorter man a smile. “I love most chocolate too. But I am not too fond of the filled ones.” Amos’ blue eyes scanned him from top to toe, shamelessly smiling back as he very obviously flirted with him. “Maybe we should share a box of chocolate together?”
Although, he barely got to ask that question before the man turned around and practically rushed for the exit. What the heck? The blonde squib followed. “Hey, wait up!” He called reaching out to place a hand on his shoulder. “I get it… You are not interested. You can just say it straight to my face.”Please don’t… It would hurt his ego too much. Amos already pouted as he felt rejected – yet again. “I just thought that it wouldn’t hurt to ask, you know.” He shrugged.

Ashworth wondered what the other man was doing as the stranger seemed to be looking at him from head to toe. It made him feel self conscious. Share a box of chocolate? If the finger licking was how the man ate his chocolates, Ashworth didn't think he would survive that.
Ashworth felt guilty on top of the embarrassment as Amos pouted. Had he hurt the mans feelings? In retrospect, his feelings would be hurt too if someone did what he had just done. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so mean," Ashworth said softly as he put his purchases onto the counter for the cashier to ring up.
"It's nothing about you, you're very beautiful and the way you eat chocolate is...," Ashworth assured but then cut himself off as he realized he was about to say something that might end up sounding improper. "I just don't do the date thing. I had a fiance but he left me years ago. He was the only person I had ever been with." He was probably oversharing now but he didn't want Amos taking it too personally.
