Ben had been thinking about Love ever since the match, and his determination only grew. Based on the mini Hufflepuff's reaction to losing the game, and his lack of response, he decided that it was better to give him just a few days to cool down before approaching him again. This time, he wanted his chances of rejection to be as low as possible, rather than almost certain, as they'd been during the match.
He'd never seen someone that matched his imagination so perfectly - it was as if Love had been pulled right out of his wildest fantasies. He hadn't seen much of the boy's personality to be able to judge the whole package in that way, but he didn't care; he could put up with whatever personality the boy had. If it also matched his preference, it would certainly be almost too good to be true, so he was ready to deal with something that he liked less than his appearence. He could be patient; as long as he got what he wanted, he didn't care how he got there.
It was a little difficult to randomly approach a fourth year, because their schedules were completely different. He asked an older Ravenclaw for their timetable, though, and used that as a guide to figure out where Love would be for his last class, so that he would be free afterwards and not inconvenienced by Ben approaching him. It was important to minimize the annoyance as much as possible. With that in mind, he chose Transfiguration, walking around the classroom when the older students were just about to come out. As soon as he saw Love, he cut in front of him, stopping his advancement. "You never answered my question, you know, pretty." he grinned briefly at him. It was true; he never rejected him outright, nor accepted his invitation.
Love had been fuming for a few days after the match. He had at least stopped blaming the Ravenclaw beater. It wasn't his fault, he was just doing what Beaters were supposed to do. It was just the luck of the draw. Besides, holding grudges gave one wrinkles. He also had not seen much of the beater since the game too which helped ease his ire.
Walking out of class, Love had just taken his compact mirror out to check his makeup - his lips a strawberry scented light red today - when the Ravenclaw beater appeared before him. He couldn't help the look of surprise on his face. "I thought that was some diversion tactic you cooked up," he said, eyeing the other suspiciously as he clicked his mirror closed. He might have mostly forgiven the beater for his antics in the game but he still regarded him with suspicion. "I don't even know you." Still, he was flattered. He liked being wanted.

He watched the other check his make-up, unable to hide his fascination. Merlin, having his attention drawn to Love's lips really wasn't helping him behave like a civilised individual and not a caveman. The little "click" the mirror made when closing helped wake him up from his trance and he redirected his attention to the boy's eyes when he spoke.
A diversion tactic? He grinned with amusement at that. "It was you who was distracting, really. Hence my question." he explained with a small smile.
"How about this. I take you out, and so you have a chance to get to know me. I promise I won't do anything until you decide you know me well enough. How about that?" he proposed in a confident tone. Ben's own personality was nothing to write home about, so he wasn't all that sure what Love would feel once he got to know him, but he could try his best to be at least tolerable. Not doing anything was going to be difficult with the mini Hufflepuf's mouth coloured red like that, making him wonder what it tasted like, but he was a man of his word.
"So distracting that you forgot there were other targets on the pitch?" Love asked, a lot more light heartedly than he would have if it been just a couple of days earlier. He slid his mirror into his schoolbag as he contemplated the others proposal. He hadn't been on actual date before unless one counted when he and Lewis hung out. Which probably mostly didn't count but also kind of did.
"Why should my first ever date be with you?" He asked, stepping closer and peering up at the other mostly to be a tease. He was an impulsive brat half the time so most of his friends probably wouldn't even find it surprising. "Where would you take me anyway? Puddifoots?" Honestly, the idea Puddifoots itself was fine, he kind of liked it. But the mental image of the other sitting on one of those puffy chairs, surrounded by all that puffiness was hilarious.

"So distracting that you forgot there were other targets on the pitch?"
He grinned briefly at that. He liked the little glimpse he could see of Love's personality; he might be tiny, but he was certainly confident, almost bratty. He liked that quite a bit. Despite his preference for small humans, he never found people he could very easily push around particularly interesting; he was one to get bored quite easily, so if everything was always under his control, then it was difficult to keep things interesting. "You didn't see, but I almost hugged a bludger because I was busy looking at you." he admitted. Part of asking him out was showing him that he liked him enough, so he saw no reason to hide the fact that the mini Hufflepuff did certainly have the power to make his brain stop working.
"Why should my first ever date be with you?"
When Love stepped closer, he leaned down as well, to get his face closer to the other's, without getting too close; just close enough to be a tease in return. "Because you won't find anyone else who likes you as much as I do." he replied confidently, looking him in the eye, having no doubt that that was true. He didn't know how other people felt about him, but he knew that there were very few things he wouldn't do right now to get him, and he was quite certain that not many would be as willing to do whatever it takes as he was. He'd always had a slightly obssessive personality, but he saw that as a good thing; it was quite often that those who were determined enough to keep trying were the ones that won in the end. And he did like winning.
"Where would you take me anyway? Puddifoots?"
"You'll see. Surprise is part of the excitement, right?" he grinned. He didn't really know much about Love either, so he wasn't sure if he would like his ideas; but he'd been told before that people appreciated effort, and effort was certainly something he could make a lot of. He did like the idea that this would be the mini Hufflepuff's first date, too; it gave him the feeling that no one had managed to earn his attention before, which made him want to do so even more.

Love actually laughed at the image of the other hugging a bludger. He wasn't going to lie, it felt nice to know he had such an effect on someone. Not that he really doubted that he could do that to someone. He owned a mirror and he took care to make sure he looked good. The problem lay in the fact that most of the people he was trying to gain attention of were probably too old for him or already had someone.
The other leaned down and Love actually blushed a little. He didn't know why but he hadn't been expecting that. "I doubt that," Love said in equal confidence, implying he thought that Benjamin might have competition. He didn't actually know if that was true but he was determined not to let the Ravenclaw beater shake him up too much. "Besides, I would have to like you too and I usually like guys older than me."
Not that it would be a dealbreaker or anything but he was curious to see how the other would counter that. Because so far Benjamin Allen seemed to have a rebuttal for everything.
"I suppose so but I haven't even agreed to let you take me anywhere," Love pointed out with a cheeky grin as he stepped back from the other.

Mm, he was cute when blushing. He studied that little hint of color in his cheeks as he listened to him speak.
"I doubt that. Besides, I would have to like you too and I usually like guys older than me."
He scoffed briefly at that. "I may not be older than you, but I am bigger than you. Besides, there's nothing an older guy, or any other guy for that matter, can do that I can't do better." he grinned at him with confidence. He may not do things right from the very beginning, but he was stubborn enough to learn to do anything well. He was decent enough at both athletics and school, so whatever Love wanted, he was certain he could do it better than others. "Tell me then... what do you like in a guy? I'll show you I can do it better than anyone." he hit his chest briefly with his fist, demonstratively, to show his determination.
"I suppose so but I haven't even agreed to let you take me anywhere."
Mm, okay, he was playing hard to get then. He watched him step away and stepped right after him, getting a little closer this time, until their chests (or rather, his abdomen and Love's chest) touched lightly. "Aren't you a little curious?" he tilted his head, leaning down to compensate for the height difference between them and see him better. He lifted a hand to touch his cheek, but he gave him enough time to stop him or step away before he actually touched him.
Well, you had to admire the guys confidence, Love supposed. "What fun is it if I just tell you? Besides, wouldn't you want me to like you for who you are?" Love asked. Besides, he didn't even really know how to fully articulate what he liked in a guy without sounding shallow. Though there were also other things he liked in a guy but those would be harder for someone to emulate if it wasn't their true personality.
He was taken off guard when the other stepped after him. He really had to look up when it came to the Ravenclaw. He was even taller than Lewis who already stood at least a foot taller than Love. A little curious? Honestly, yes. He had never really had anyone come after him so blatantly before. "You're even taller than Lewis. What do you even eat to get so tall," he blurted out as the other touched his cheek.

"What fun is it if I just tell you? Besides, wouldn't you want me to like you for who you are?"
"Some things apply to everyone... it just makes a difference if they do it well or not. Like communication. I think I'm pretty good at being straightforward... but not everyone likes that. So I can tone it down if needed." he explained, tilting his head slightly as he studied him. Small adjustments would be needed in any relationship, anyway, so he didn't mind the idea of adapting to what was required of him; his personality would shine through regardless, so that wasn't a concern.
"You're even taller than Lewis. What do you even eat to get so tall?"
He chuckled at that, very carefully drawing the contour of Love's face. Mm. He really was pretty. He forgot to reply for quite a long moment, just admiring him almost too obviously. "I know what I want to eat, that's for sure." he murmured, able to speak a little quieter now since they were so close, and he looked him up and down, obviously referring to him. "I'm a small portion kind of guy, I guess." he joked with a small grin, alluding to Love's height. He lifted his chin towards him a little, looking down at his lips, but didn't make a move towards them - he suspected the mini Hufflepuff wouldn't let him do that just yet.
"Being good at communication is always good," Love conceded. "Another thing I like is guys who play Quidditch so I guess we'll see how well you can do." Pretty decent so far when he wasn't targetting just him with the bludgers. Time would tell if Ben was always decent at Quidditch. He really didn't know what else to say to the other. He was not exactly an expert in these things nor did he truly, deeply know what it was that might attract him.
Love blushed faintly as the other seemed to just stare at him as if mesmerized by his face alone. He gasped and playfully shoved the Ravenclaws shoulder when Ben said he knew what he wanted to eat. How forward! Were Love's ears red? "You really do just say whatever filters into that brain of yours, huh?"
