Desiree almost laughed at the idea that her mother could be a designer. While she cared for her mother, that woman was definitely not the creative sort, not like Desiree. “No, she simply has an interest in fashion, and a lot of connections in those spheres.” Her mother was nothing if not power-hungry, and while she enjoyed fashion, being a fashion designer was definitely not a career she would find worthwhile. Desiree had yet to tell her mother about her own career plans starting the following year, and she was dreading it a bit, unsure if her mother would approve of a creative career for her only daughter.
Desiree was surprised to hear how many schools Silvia had attended before Dahshur, having only attended the latter for the current school year. She wondered how the blonde’s schoolmates felt about a new student representing their school in this tournament. If it were her, she knew she would be a bit miffed. “Oh wow, you have moved around a lot then.” Desiree didn’t know a lot about those other schools, but she did know that they were not necessarily close to one another. “Is there a reason you have attended so many schools? Surely you haven’t been kicked out of so many?” Silvia seemed like such a sweet girl, but perhaps there was some darkness hidden within, something to have caused her to jump from school to school so frequently.
She felt a wave of relief as Silvia did not use her kind gesture in the first task as a means to extort a favor out of Desiree, followed by a moment of anger at the memory of the useless item she had chosen. Silvia was right, she had definitely chosen the most useful item out of the three, and Desiree still cursed the fact that she had not done the same. Taking Silvia’s request not to mention it to heart, she simply nodded with a smile, conveying her thanks once again and finally tying up all loose ends in that situation. She felt she could take a breath now, relief flooding her instantly, causing her to loosen up slightly in Silvia’s presence. Now that she knew the gesture had no ulterior motives, she felt more able to open up to the blonde, no longer afraid of her true intentions.
“That would be fine,” she accepted the proposal to switch back their items. Perhaps Silvia would prefer to have the watch as a keepsake, and it was the least Desiree could do. Plus, she could see more use for the necklace outside of the tournament than the pocket watch. A watch was simply not to her style. “I do not have it on me at the moment. Perhaps we can meet up some other day to exchange items?”
