It was January. It was cold. But the Flobberworms still needed feeding. Arguably the most boring creatures studied in Care of Magical Creatures, no one liked to feed them or take care of them, which was why it was the perfect task for some troublemakers!
Nicha and Moon had detention for whatever their individual reasons were, and that was exactly the task they were being assigned. The Gamekeeper explained what to do, gave them the food, and let the students know they had to go get some other supplies and to behave. They were left on their own but they couldn't leave. They didn't want to imagine what a worse punishment than this would be.

This detention was actually not so bad, thought Nicha. Anyone who assigned her this task probably did not know her at all, because Care of Magical Creatures was her favourite class, so much so that she thought Flobberworms were cute in their own way too!
The fourth year troublemaker greeted the Gamekeeper with a dejected smile that she forced on to pretend that she was unhappy to do the task, then picked up some lettuce which she had learned was the Flobberworm’s main food supply.
“Whatchu get in detention for, Moon?” she asked her partner for this detention. Moon was her House Prefect, so she couldn’t imagine him misbehaving. But of course, Nicha Saengmai was the last person imaginable in detention, which was proof that anything was possible.
Moon wasn't typically the sort to misbehave - he was a prefect, after all - but he was also a teen boy. Accidents happened. Like falling asleep during a particularly boring lecture. "Fell asleep during a class. What about you?" Moon asked as he gently poked at one of the flobberworms. Their texture sure felt funny. He gave some lettuce to it. All things considered, this wasn't the worst detention one could be having. Probably because both of them weren't usually the troublemaking sort of students.

“Skipped a class. Twice in a row,” Nicha admitted, feeling her cheeks redden a little as she gently offered a Flobberworm the lettuce in her hand. She stayed silent and watched the creature consume the vegetable for a moment before blurting out, “I don’t know. I think I felt… rebellious. I don’t like having to be the perfect kid all the time.”
She wondered if Moon ever felt like she did. Slightly ashamed for saying her deepest thoughts out loud, she did not meet his eyes but stared at the Flobberworm he poked, which gave a squirm.
Moon had been about to ask why she had skipped when she blurted out the unspoken question herself. Oh. Well, that was not something he could fully relate to. He tended to just do as he pleased as it was. It was a pretty understandable feeling though. They were all teenagers and figuring themselves out. "I don't think I ever really feel rebellious," Moon said thoughtfully. "But I can see why you might. Sometimes you just want to break out of the box people put you in." Oh. Maybe he did understand, after all. It was like how people always thought he was mean because of how his face tended to look when there wasn't a mean bone in his body.

Nicha felt indignant, doubtful, then envious that Moon did not feel rebellious like she did, but quickly absorbed the fact that different people naturally had different experiences and ways of dealing with said experiences. “Yeah. Maybe I just have to ignore the box.” Realising that she had accidentally been forcing an already full Flobberworm to eat for the past few minutes, the Hufflepuff moved on to feed the next worm.
“What kind of things do people assume about you?” she asked after a pause.
