It was a Saturday morning, and Jack was pretty happy to not have to go to any classes that day. He had no obligations, just the way he liked things. Reaching into his pocket, he drew out not a wand, but a drumstick. He always kept a pair on him, who knew when he might need them. Practicing had been pretty difficult at Hogwarts, as he definitely didn’t have room for a drum set. However, he’d managed to set up a little makeshift kit with various items he could hit, and it did the job.
Bored, he leaned against a wall in the hall and spun the stick around, feeling the smooth wood. He’d just learnt how to spin them properly, and he was convinced it made him look super cool. No one that was walking past was actually looking at him, but he kept going nonetheless. As he looked over his shoulder in an effort to look effortless, his finger slipped and the stick flew right out of his hand and collided with someone else. Mortified, he turned around, face redder than the Gryffindor crest on his robes. “Sorry!”

He was on his way to breakfast when Levi decided to pass through the Entrance Hall to really soak up the magical school he called home. Being in his fourth year also meant that he was soon and close to finishing his studies at Hogwarts. He had everything planned out today. He was going to eat something and then try make his way into the restricted section to learn more about wandless and non-verbal magic. A concept he had been really interested in lately.
What he didn't expect to find was himself tripping over what he believed was a wand on the floor. A loud thump to the ground caused his body to groan out a little as he scrambled to pick up the books he was holding. " Was that your wand?" He said looking into the distance and seeing a little wooden stick rolling away. "Slippery wand you got there." He said as he slowly helped himself back onto his two feet.

Jack was mortified to see an older boy trip over because he was being stupid with a pair of drumsticks. This was very embarrassing. Not chill at all. His cool kid facade melted away as he walked over to the guy. “I’m so sorry, that was my fault, are you okay?” he asked. He would have to either work on his stick spinning skills or his ego because none of that went to plan.
”Oh, um, not my wand,” he explained. “Drumstick. But yeah, it’s pretty slippery,” he said, running over to pick it up as it was fast rolling away. “Sorry about that, are your books alright and stuff?” he asked. Although Jack wasn’t exactly keen to admit it, he did really enjoy learning about the magical world from his textbooks, and he knew that they could be bloody expensive.

Having a conversation while laying on the floor was an experience on it’s own considering how peculiar it was to not only meet someone you’ve literally fallen head over heels for in the literal aspect but also because. Well, it just wasn’t normal. Then again, nothing about this encounter was normal. “ Drumsticks?” He repeated back questioning why the boy was twirling a drumstick rather than a wand.
“ You part of the music club or something?” He asked as he began to sit upright and finally, to his feet. “ Ahh don’t worry about the books. They are just my light reading books. “ He replied shrugging his shoulders. “ Anyway, I’m Levi. I’ve seen you about in between classes but I’ve never actually met you. “ He held out a hand to greet the person properly. “ Are you first or second year?”

Jack nodded. “Yeah. I always keep a pair on me just in case” he said. “Yeah, I’m in the music club. I play drums” he said. Why did he say that? It was obvious he played drums, why else would he be carrying around drumsticks? To throw at people? Although, he reasoned, that was essentially what had just happened.
Light reading? “Ah, right,” he said. The reading didn’t look particularly light to Jack, considering the loud thump the books had made on the floor. “Hi Levi, I’m Jack,” he said, reaching out to shake Levi’s hand. “I think I’ve seen you around as well. I’m second year, what about you?” he asked. His cheeks started to turn back to a normal colour, and the interaction felt less awkward than how it had started. LEVI HILFIGER

His question seemed harmless enough however, it was Levi's follow up sentence that was rather abrupt. "Well then, save your drum sticks for the music club. " Although he wasn't trying to be a pain in the arse, his comment may of come across that way. He did have to vent out a little anger after all, it was Jack's drum stick that caused Levi to be facing up looking at the candles floating above him.
" It's light reading to me. " He joked with a smile on his face. " I'm a Ravenclaw, this is considered light reading. " He joked as he took a seat next to him. " You should see what I consider heavy reading. " He said shaking his head slightly making reference to the Transfiguration book he had on his bed side table.
" Well Jack, it's a pleasure to meet you. " He nodded his head as he took a sip of water. " I'm a fourth year. You excited for your electives next year?"

Jack nodded at Levi’s statement, embarrassed. He told himself that he would keep his drumsticks to himself and not take them out again, but if he was honest with himself, he probably wouldn’t. Still, he didn’t want to make a fool of himself again. He was slightly taken aback, and his initial response was to be a bit annoyed at being told what to do, but Levi had just been talking to him from the floor so he reasoned that it was pretty fair.
“Right,” he said, smiling. He guessed it was true that Ravenclaws did a lot of reading. “Heavy reading sounds like a lot if this is light.” he grinned. “Not that I would know, I don’t really read that much.” That was a bit of a lie. Jack found his school textbooks actually kind of interesting, but no one else he knew seemed to think that so he kept his mouth shut. But maybe Levi would think the same way. “They’ve got a massive library here though don’t they? I should use it more often.”
“Pleasure to meet you too”, he grinned. He was pretty excited to be talking to a fourth year, that age seemed so far away. “Yeah, pretty excited,” said Jack. He wasn’t really. “I don’t really know what to pick though, I don’t know much about any of the subjects to be honest.” That much was true. He didn’t see the point in stuff like divination. That was seeing the future, wasn’t it? He couldn’t deny it would be useful, but was any of that stuff actually real? Although, he supposed, he should know by now not to be too surprised by magical things. LEVI HILFIGER

Whilst he didn't mean to speak to Jack in an abrupt way, his intention to share his emotions was just so he believed. " I hope you don't consider what I say too harsh. " He was not only sharing his concern over the incident but also ensuring it wouldn't happen again to him let alone someone else who wouldn't be as light hearted over the incident as he did. Still, Levi continued to reflect a friendly persona through his smile.
The smile continued when he heard how Jack spoke about his reading habits. " Considering this is light reading for me, I often wonder what the senior year students consider light read. " He then pondered if other houses also found the reading some Ravenclaws do a little too intense. Transfiguration also always had large textbooks and he believed that was due to just how difficult that type of magic was. " Do you do much reading yourself? "
" Yeah it's a big decision to make as you're stuck with it for a year. " Whilst Levi was quite happy with his electives he chose, he did also know that some people did do more than the required however some of the subjects he wanted to do did clash with other subjects. " I did Basic Healing and I'd highly recommend it. " He said wondering if Jack would ask for how he experienced the course.

“Oh no, not at all,” said Jack, trying to make it clear that he didn’t have any ill feeling towards Levi. “I shouldn’t have been messing around.” At least he was self aware. He was quite glad that Levi handled as well as he did, someone else could have resulted in a far more embarrassing scenario.
He nodded, thinking. “Oh yeah me too, they must have to do a lot of it” he said. He was worried about all the books he’d have to read and work he’d have to do when he was a senior. He hope it left time for drum practice. He wondered if Levi was just a typical Ravenclaw example, or if he really did have to up his reading levels. “Um, I read a bit. School textbooks mostly, and some other stuff if I have time,” he said in answer to Levi’s question. “I don’t have a lot of time though, I spend most of it practicing drums.”
Jack’s smile wavered slightly as he considered that if he chose a boring subject, he’d have to stick it out for the whole year. He hoped he picked some good ones. “I really like sport so I kind of want to do advanced flying, but I’m not on a Quidditch team or anything.” Jack hoped that wasn’t a prerequisite for the course. It was the closest thing in the magical world to soccer, his favourite sport. “Oh cool,” he said. Maybe he would pick healing too. “That sounds interesting. How did you find it?” he asked. Levi forming friends wasn't exactly a hard thing to do for the young Ravenclaw. Despite the stereotype that most Ravenclaws were head deep into their books, Levi had somehow managed to not only balance a social life but also be ahead of his study. Perhaps it was moments like these that contributed to the success of his knowledge. The art of balancing being head deep into a book and at the same time, be able to make a new friend.
" Yeah I could only imagine. " He replied wondering about the amount of study required to not only be up to date but to be ahead with the school work of a sixth or seventh year. Levi was soon to be a fifth year and that meant OWL's for the young man. A rather worrisome thought for others but an exciting thought for him. " Ahh yeah, you should form like a magical band or something with some of the other students. " He suggested trying to show interest despite not really having much interest in music.
" Ahh, you should give Quidditch a go man!" He replied enthusiastically and with his voice slightly increasing in dynamic volume. It was evident he was more passionate about this than he was music. " I play for the Ravenclaw team as a beater. We all have little tricks we try to do in order to win. " He loved his Quidditch as much as he did his reading. " Actually, the course was pretty interesting and very useful. My goal is to one day become an Unspeakable so it might be useful in the near future. "

Jack generally wasn’t too bad at making friends, but he generally didn’t make them by accidentally tripping people up. Still. It was nice to get a conversation out of it. Was Levi his friend? He hoped so, he seemed pretty cool. But Jack wondered if he was allowed to consider someone two years older than him a friend. He supposed he was.
”That would be pretty cool,” he said. Jack didn’t know anyone else who was musical, but he hoped being in the music club would allow him to make connections and start a band. People generally weren’t looking for jazz drummers though, which was what Jack specialised in.
He grinned. “You know what? I think I will.” Being deprived of sport for so long was taking a toll on him. Jack remembered back home, where all you needed was a random ball and a bunch of kids would come at play with you and be entertained for hours. People weren’t like that as much here. “Sounds cool. I played a lot of soccer back home, Quidditch seems similar” he said. “An Unspeakable? That sounds pretty interesting.” Although he had no idea what it meant, the word had a certain mystery about it. Whilst he enjoyed the topic of music, Levi wanted to drive the conversation elsewhere that he could be more comfortable with. He did enjoy their conversation but it was time he changed the topic. " Just gather all the music club students along with the frog choir. Play some modern day classical music or something." He laughed a little as he thought of the frogs doing an acapella version to classical music.
" Soccer and Quidditch are similar but different. " He had to think about it for a second as he imagined the two sports. " The concept is the same, bring a ball to the other side to score and have people blocking and things attacking you but we're like, in the air and on brooms."
He smiled hearing how Jack was considering signing up to Quidditch. " Yes would be fun!" He shrugged his shoulders before clearing his throat slightly. " So do you have any plans after Hogwarts?"

Jack laughed along with Levi as the mental image of frogs singing opera came into his brain. “That’d be pretty funny” he said. Although he had no desire to join the frog choir, he had an appreciation for whoever thought up the concept. It was pretty wild when you thought about it.
He nodded thoughtfully. From the few Quidditch matches he’d seen, he had definitely noticed a lot of overlap between Quidditch and soccer. It was a big part of the reason why he wanted to join the team; it was probably the closest thing he could get here to his beloved sport. “I guess they’re both pretty easy to follow along in that way even if you haven’t played before. Y’know, ball goes one way, good, ball goes the other way, bad” he added with a smile.
Jack stopped for a minute. He had thought about this a fair bit actually. He knew he wanted to be a drummer, but that begged the question of if he could effectively leave the wizarding world after he graduated. He wouldn’t really need magic after school. Did people do that? He didn’t like that fact that he had two incredibly different parts of his life, magical and non-magical. It complicated things.
”Um, I don’t know. I’d like to be a drummer I think. Wait, can you have non-magical career if you’re a wizard?” he asked, thinking out loud. He didn’t really know anyone else who seemed to have thought about that before. “Do you have any plans for after Hogwarts?” he asked in return. LEVI HILFIGER

What Levi enjoyed about Jack was just how easy he was to speak to. The conversations started to become more natural and less forced and to him, that was an integral part of a friendship. " Just a whole bunch of frogs screaming death metal! Can you imagine? " He laughed a little harder at the thought, his arms placed against his stomach.
" Well, if you look at the logistics of sport.... " He began to expand as he leaned forward a little so Jack could hear him over the first year that ran past screaming some random words at them. "The intention is roughly all the same, one must acquire points by leading a team or join a team to overcome or subdue the opposite side through a variety of complex and sometimes not so complex tasks in order to penetrate the opponent's team goal to gain said score and win. Of course some games have some further technicalities. " Je paused for a second before he looked at Jack with a frowning face. " Wow.... That sounded very Ravenclaw of me didn't it?" He said letting out a small laugh.
" Well, who says you can't have a career in the muggle world? " Whilst his father would disagree with the notion, it wasn't his place to share his father's views down on Jack. " I mean, the magical world has it's complexities but so does the Muggle world and considering we're doing a magical education, it makes one wonder what opportunities we actually have out there. " He didn't mean to discourage the boy but more so bring to the attention the opportunities available in both worlds.

“Oh yeah, they’d be good at that” he laughed, picturing the frogs dressed up in wigs and chains and screaming into microphones. “Got that croaky tone, y’know” he said jokingly. He was enjoying this conversation quite a bit.
Jack raised an eyebrow at the first year that ran past screaming, interrupting their conversation. “Wow, I don’t think I was that bold when I was a firstie” he said under his breath before Levi continued. Truthfully, he probably was in a way. Sure, he wasn’t one to run around screaming, but he’d definitely had that youthful arrogance that was quite common in younger years. He’d mostly grown out of it but it still showed itself sometimes.
Levi then said a lot of words which went in one of Jack’s ears and out the other. He nodded blankly, trying to look as though he knew what he was talking about. Something about teams and sides and scores and stuff. There was probably a reason he wasn’t sorted into Ravenclaw. “A little, but I got the gist” he said, grinning.
Jack nodded thoughtfully. “That’s a good point,” he said. He didn’t really know much about careers in either of the two worlds he was a part of, but it was good to hear that he didn’t have to rule out a career in the muggle world. “I guess I’ll explore some career pathways and see if anything takes my fancy. I mean, I’ve got time to work it out I suppose.” After all, he was barely a teenager. No rush. LEVI HILFIGER
