"Hang on to that, and don't lose it, okay, Q?" Kaye instructed her younger brother. There was a time when she did not have to be so motherly towards him but things were changing. Q was starting Hogwarts and Kaye worried that he would get eaten alive being such a meek, quiet, and sensitive boy. As his big sister, it was her job to ensure no one messed with him, and she would. Kaye had a fierceness about her that matched that of a pirate queen. No one would mess with her little bro!
They had gotten their Hogwarts letters. Kaye was keeping an eye on Q while their mother was in the bank. Banks were boring. One had to stand there and wait and be quiet. She couldn't handle that for longer than five minutes if there was nothing interesting going on. "Why don't we get ice cream while we wait for Mum?" She suggested it like her brother had a choice. He did not. Kaye was already leading him towards the ice cream parlour.

Lia was in a mood. Well, to be fair, she had been in a mood all summer. Ever since her mum had let slip some information about her father that she had kept hidden her entire life. To be frank, Lia was not pleased. All this time, all these years, she could have possibly known her father. Instead she was now 13, with nothing but a partial name to go by. Ever since she had found out, it had been her mission to try and find him, but with no success so far, and it was starting to irk her.
So much so that she had picked a fight with her mum that day while shopping for her school supplies. While the two used to be inseparable growing up, now Lia could barely stand the sight of her traitorous mother. Everything she did was annoying. So when she mixed up the wizard currency for the umpteenth time that day, Lia just snapped. One shouting match later and she found herself sitting alone outside the ice cream shop, eating away her feelings in mint chocolate chip ice cream. Her mother had decided it would be best if they split up for the time being, and Lia couldn’t have agreed more.
Just as she took a horrendously large bite of ice cream, she noticed a familiar face walking in her direction. Finally, a friend from school. She had been hoping to run into somebody on her trip, but so far had no luck. Struggling to smile around the creamy concoction in her mouth, she waved Kaye over to join her.
