Dustin had been wandering the train without choosing a seat, plus he had needed to use the loo as soon as they got on board too. Had he planned better before they left home he might have been more prepared to find his friends and family to sit with before now. Instead, he was now walking toward where he could hear Blaise's voice. Or at least he thought so until he had to pause in the middle of the walkway, listening to someone talk before he recognised the voices within. He didn't want to be rude and squeeze past the older guy talking into the compartment so he stood there uncertainly and waited to see if he was going in or not.

Lee Ji-Hyun thought she was old enough to go to the train station on her own now, she had given both of her parents a hug and kiss goodbye before she left the house. She was excited to start her fifth year at Hogwarts, to see her friends and start classes. She arrived on time, saw it was packed with students and their families and made her way through the crowd. She got on the train, searched for a seat, and found a vacant compartment after only a few minutes. She entered and sat on the right side near the window, placed her owl's cage on the floor, and attached her backpack to the cage. She hopes either Lottie or Nicha or both come to sit with her, leans down to get the bag of sweets out and pops one into her mouth.

Yumiko was excited for her first year at Hogwarts! She was the baby of the family, or so her mom said, but she was all grown up! At least she felt that way. She was excited to meet some new friends who weren't her siblings. She loved them but they were quite a bit older than her! They didn't usually want to play the things she wanted do play.
She was also excited to learn magic too, though! It was also because of her siblings. They all knew such advanced things and she wanted to be as good as they were one day!
She found a compartment with her older sister, since she didn't know a lot of people yet. She might find a familiar face who their family knew and maybe she met them some time. They were purebloods after all. But for the most part, she just wanted to stick with her sister during the train ride.
Riko started to tell her about Hogwarts. Again. She knew all this! "I know! I'm excited about it too." Riko was always looking out for her and trying to tell her about things and she did appreciate it. But it wasn't like she didn't know about Hogwarts at all! She already asked her parents all about it ages ago. But maybe that was when Riko was off at school and she was trying to figure out what Riko's life was like there.
"Do you think the sorting ceremony will be difficult? What if I'm not a Hufflepuff like you?"
Post by JULIAN MULCIBER on Apr 5, 2024 21:26:38 GMT -5
Julian had watched the other students farewell their families - frowning at the open displays of affection and love, listening to the unfamiliar words of affirmation being shared through the glass.
"Make sure to write often--!"
"We'll miss you so much--!"
"One more hug--!"
He had sighed, settling into the final compartment on the train - the furthest down the line - and pulled out his copy of Poèmes Saturniens, resting back against the plush interior of his compartment, appreciating the quiet.
His morning had been relatively uneventful and comparatively dry. He had left the Manor early, only offering some words of parting to his younger sister who had clutched at his coat and begged him not to leave. Julian had shrugged the coat off once on board, though imagined her tears were still wet on the lapel. It ached him to leave her behind, but knew his grandparents would care for her and treat her like their own. His father had not bothered to see his son off, and for that, Julian had been thankful.
"Watch it, pipsqueak!" Julian's eyes stopped scouring the poetry before him, and he waited, listening to the commotion outside his compartment as the train lurched forward, signalling its departure from the station. He did not recognise the first hostile voice, nor the reply - though its owner sounded younger. It was none of his business. He allowed his eyes to return to the page, but for some reason his ears remained attentive to the argument outside, and he found himself smirking ever so slightly at the challenging authority of the second voice.
"I could give you a pair, if you keep talking back." Now that was a threat and now this was interesting. Julian imagined he was about to witness a fight on the first day back from break and that wasn't something he would miss. He snapped his book shut, placing it on the seat beside him with a sigh before standing - towering in the compartment so much that he was required to duck as he pulled open his compartment door and stepped out. He turned to his right to to take in the scene a few steps from him: there was a wand drawn - by some spotty looking second or third year, a look of clear superiority on his face - and it was pointed rather whimsically at a much smaller student. Ah, a bully, then. The boy glanced Julian's way, seeing the Slytherin watching the interaction with mild interest, causing him to hesitate. Certainly the younger boy wasn't so sure he wanted to threaten what appeared to be a first year any longer - not with an audience.
"A Transfiguration master, are you?" The girl shot back, amusing him, though he heard the slight shift in her tone - uncertainty.
Something pulled at the back of Julians mind, and the image of his sister crying into his shoulder flashed before him. His eyes narrowed, feeling a swelling of possessiveness in his chest. "He's not even holding his wand right," he interjected, instilling doubt in the younger student while glaring at him, "enjoy threatening her, do you? Or perhaps she seemed the easiest target," Julian tutted, "classic underestimation... How elementary." He tensed his limbs, prepared to counter should the idiot attempt to take them both on, though in seeing the hesitation course through the other boy, an attack was not likely. Easy. Target his insecurity, build upon it. It was probably simpler given his more intimidating stature, especially now that he was hard focused on tearing down the girls opponent. He wouldn't do it for her, he had heard her autocratic tone - she was strong enough to do it herself - perhaps with only a little help. He was no saviour, and he knew he never would be.

The sound of a compartment door sliding open nearby was registered by Olivia's ears, though she didn't venture taking her eyes off her would-be tormentor. A slight waver in attention could be all he needed to cast at her, if indeed he intended to do so.
"You're about to find out," the boy declared, shifting the wand in his fingers. Still, no incantation was forming on his lips. Was he just bluffing, trying to scare her? His eyes darted away from her briefly, and now there was hesitation on his face. Someone must be watching their little clash. Olivia risked glancing away from the distracted boy, and her heart performed a little somersault. Julian. She recognized him at once, even though he looked several years older than he did in the photograph she'd found.
There was little interest in his expression, as if the scene he was witnessing was a mildly entertaining street show he had paused to observe. No flicker of recognition in his eyes, no shock at seeing her. He didn't recognize her. Of course he didn't. Grandfather Pollux and Grandmother Dafne, aware of the conflict between their two sons, did not display photographs of their descendants in the manor. It made the place a neutral territory. During a visit this summer, Olivia had to sneak into Grandfather's study and dig through his desk drawers to discover images of the Mulciber family members she was not supposed to acknowledge. If Julian hadn't done the same, he had no clue what she looked like. This was perfect. Oh, how to stop herself from cackling... She didn't want her overt excitement to show. Best to tone it down, so it seemed like she was merely glad to see someone taking her side.
He spoke then, bringing her attention to the way her bully held his wand. Olivia tore her gaze away from her cousin and focused on the object in question. "I'm holding it like a duellist would hold it. Stay out of this - the brat needs to be taught a lesson." His voice was less certain now, but he was too dumb to back down. Anyone could see he no longer had any chance of making the little first-year flee in terror - unless he actually jinxed her.
"My bad, I didn't realize you're a professor," she sneered. "And you are holding your wand wrong. Oh-- Prefect! Over here!" she called out to the empty air behind the boy, her eyes focusing on a spot a few yards behind him. Startled, he began to lower his wand as he turned to see if he was in trouble. Olivia's hand shot out, snatching the wand. She danced back a few paces, out of the boy's reach. "Fetch!" she called in a voice she used when playing with the family Crup, and tossed the arcane stick away. It clattered to the floor a fair distance off, spraying out a shower of sparks. For a few heartbeats, it looked as though the disarmed boy might lunge at her with some barbaric Muggle attack - perhaps he even was a Muggle spawn - but the moment passed. She suspected it was Julian's towering form that did it in the end.
"You'll pay for this," the failed attacker grumbled, and it was clear she wouldn't be paying today. He shoved past Olivia with one last glare and went to retrieve his wand before anyone stepped on it.
She bared her pearly whites as she grinned at Julian. "Well, that was diverting." And it had been, even if it meant she'd have to watch her back for a while. "It seems you rescued a damsel in distress, kind stranger." His aid had been purely psychological, but it was enough to give her the advantage she'd needed. So far, he was exactly what she'd imagined from their correspondence - only taller and more imposing.

Thalia moved away from the topic of her family owl as quickly as she could, so she wouldn't have to bend the truth to the breaking point. The creature was completely healthy now, and had been for over a month. Its ailment had been mild and brief.
"I spent the summer learning to play my guitar - oh, and babysitting Aurelius." Her baby brother was still very much a baby, and thus not great company - but he was cute and not at all difficult.
She felt a little torn about Dustin's absence - on the one hand, it meant Meredith might be able to join their compartment; on the other hand, this would deprive her of her cousin's company. "Should we go look for him?" she asked dubiously. Finding someone on this train would take a while - there were hundreds of passengers aboard.
An unfamiliar, oddly-accented voice made her turn to the compartment door and look up at the face of a boy who looked old enough to be a seventh-year. Yet he must have been new, otherwise he wouldn't be asking how to claim a seat. Thalia found herself tongue-tied, feeling self-conscious in the company of an older student. Luckily, Ella answered his question - although she also appeared to be flustered. Her cousin's discomfort only enhanced Thalia's own uneasy feeling, causing her to blush as well. She wasn't used to the company of teenagers.
Looking through the glass wall, past the stranger, she spotted Dustin waiting politely a few feet away. "Dustin - there you are!"

"That's good you are excited, I know you will have a wonderful first year at Hogwarts and you will make some good friends." Riko said, can see from the corner of her eye that more students were getting on the train. She is protective of her little sister, will be there if someone gives her a hard time and look out for her. She gave her owl a treat, looked back at her sister Yumiko and tried to tell if she was nervous at all.
"No, you just sit on a chair and they put the sorting hat on your head, then it tells you which house you belong in. If you not, that's ok. I will still be there for you and you can still come to find me, if you need anything." Riko said, she does hope her sister ends up in Hufflepuff to be honest. She looks out the window to see if any of her friends are out there, just remembers her Ken isn't attending Hogwarts anymore since he graduated last year, is going to miss hanging out with him and hopes he is doing well.
"Did you make sure you had everything, this morning?" Riko asked her sister and she knew that if Yumiko did forget anything, their mother would send it to her.

It was always funny to see the younger students flash a blushing smile at him. Not only did it play at his ego but of course, it did also make him feel good about things. “At ease ladies.” He said as he milked the moment a little further on his journey to finding a compartment. “ Much appreciated with the help you’ve given me. I’ll remember this aye. “ He said flashing a smile of his own before moving onto another carriage but only before pausing for a second. “ In case we bump into each other again “ He said pausing mid step in the door way. “ What were your names again? I’m Calvin. First year at Hogwarts but not a first year student. “

The wind was gone from the other boys chest, and he was deflating before Julian's eyes, yet somehow - for some idiotic reason - he refused to scamper away like the he seemed to be. Absolutely no survival instinct.
Julian waited patiently - they had all train ride for the boy to choose the correct route... Well, perhaps not all train ride. At some point he figured the young girl was either going to hex him or punch him - he wasn't sure which, but he was certainly going to stick around to find out.
He felt the girls eyes dart to him briefly, though Julian ignored her, keeping his own gaze trained on the target. Given that he hadn't back down meant that he might try something stupid if only to gain back some mediocre self-worth. Julian wasn't willing to take any risks, and he had set his mind to watching over the younger student. I'm holding it like a duellist would hold it... The boy snapped back, though his voice wavered. Julian cocked an eyebrow, "an incompetent duellist," he muttered with a soft sigh. The boys grip was all wrong, his stance poor. And with the shifting train compartments it was unlikely he had the balanced footing to properly cast.
As the girl feigned a Prefects presence, the boy turned - taking his eyes off the both of them. Big mistake. In seconds, she had disarmed him and tossed his wand away haphazardly, all without magic. Impressive. Julian did not move while the boy grumbled out a hollow threat, seeing the redness flush on his ears in embarrassment. He was no danger now that he had been castrated by a younger student, who, for some reason, was beaming at him. Julian's face set in his usual scowl, "I hardly believe anyone would refer to you as a damsel in distress," he remarked murkily, having first-hand seen the confidence in which she had dealt with the student clearly older than herself, bar the slight waver earlier on. Kind stranger... He almost flinched at that. Kind was certainly not a word that many would describe a Mulciber as being.
His eyes scanned her heart-shaped face, taking in the dark, full eyebrows, deep brown eyes and almost porcelain skin. She held an aristocratic air about her, but it was too early to really judge her heritage. She was not at all familiar to him by sight or sound - not that Julian was very familiar with many of the Hogwarts students - other than those in his classes and House. Much like his choice of isolated compartment for the train ride, he preferred his own company to that of others. He realised he had been more or less staring at her while he committed the face to memory, and withdrew his gaze, instead turning back to his open compartment door, hesitating only slightly as he had noticed she still had her suitcase and belongings with her. Clearly she had not found anywhere to settle for the ride.
Don't do it. Don't be stupid.
Julian threw a last glance over his shoulder at her, "if you have nowhere else to go, this compartment is otherwise empty." Why did she remind him of his sister? He frowned at the thought, ducking to re-enter his compartment, leaving the door ajar for her if she so wished. In here with him, at least, it was almost guaranteed she would not be bothered any further. If not, he could not care less. He re-seated himself in the corner by the window, taking his book back up and opening the page back to where he had left off.

The journey to Hogwarts this year was rather different for the young Hufflepuff too. Like Levi, she was also selected as a Prefect! Her parents were very proud of her. For a good part of the previous term she had… experimented with being rebellious. Apparently she had not messed up too badly to risk the role she wanted so much. She decided that the rebellion phase has now passed, and was prepared to be a model student again.
Another change for this term was that she would no longer be at school with her sister, who graduated recently. While the two of them had their ups and downs, Nicha still loved and respected Apinya very much. NOTHING could replace her, except maybe… the most beautiful CAT!!! For she had adopted Bua the Russian Blue over the break, and now carried him in a basket as she looked into different compartments for somewhere to sit. Sliding open the door to the fifth compartment, she saw a familiar face from her year.
“Hi, Levi! May I sit with you? Oops sorry,” she ended with an apology, as Bua took the liberty of settling in the seat opposite from the Ravenclaw without waiting for his answer.
LEVI HILFIGER @compartment 5 (YES Ken is proud of our new Ravenclaw Prefect <3)
It was Romy’s third first day back at Hogwarts. Third year meant quite a few new developments, like elective classes - Arithmancy, Basic Healing and Care of Magical Creatures for her, which she thought was the best possible package - and additional responsibilities. She could not believe that she was appointed Junior Quidditch Captain, and while the thought of public speaking brought her great anxiety at first, she also liked the team very much and was excited to lead their practices.
After bidding her Muggle parents a heartfelt goodbye, the 13-year-old got onto the train, pushing her luggage before her. While she usually preferred traveling the long journey with friends she felt comfortable around, her trunk was especially heavy this time and she wanted to dump it in any compartment as quickly as possible. That is, as long as the occupants did not look like they would bite. Luckily, the only person in the first compartment she peeked in was a friendly-looking girl she recognised from classes. “Heya, is it alright if I join you?” she waved.
Post by LILLIAN POTTER on Apr 7, 2024 19:56:29 GMT -5
Lillian was happy to finally be on the train and away from the crowds on the platform. The train was still quite busy, but at least she was a little more anonymous there. Since she was the oldest of her siblings, and therefore the first to go to Hogwarts, the whole family had seen her off: mum, dad, and her two little brothers. She would miss her family dearly, and so she was happy she got to say goodbye to all of them on the platform.
What she didn’t enjoy were all the stares and whispers any time she was out in public with her family. She knew it wasn’t necessarily their fault they were so well known, so she couldn’t be mad at them. It was just a bit embarrassing. She hoped she could remain a little more conspicuous at Hogwarts. Of course people would know her name, but hopefully it would be less of a thing. After all, it had been many years since her parents attended school. Surely she could just blend in?
Making her way down the corridor, she noticed quite a few were already filled with students, most noticeably older than her. She paused by Compartment 3 and waved to Blaise, happy to see a familiar face, but he seemed to be busy with his own friends so she didn’t want to interrupt. She continued further down the train until she came to a compartment with two other students. She overheard one student mention they were a first year, and decided that may be a good place to join. After all, she was hoping to make some new friends.
Lillian popped her head into the doorway and saw a girl and boy, both looking about her age, sitting across from each other. “Um, do you mind if I join you?” She asked, tentatively taking a seat next to the boy. “My name’s Lillian,” she introduced herself, deciding to forgo the surname for now.
Post by MEREDITH MORGAN FAY on Apr 7, 2024 20:30:38 GMT -5
It was her first day at a brand new school, in a new country, and Meredith was nervous. Of course her parents would be less than sympathetic if they knew, so she kept her emotions to herself, bidding them a quick and polite goodbye on the platform. They both had more important things to deal with than seeing off their child for several months. It wasn’t long before the pair disappeared, and Meredith was on her own. She heaved a deep sigh and pulled herself back up. If she was to impress them, feeling bad for herself would not do.
Joining the cue of students entering the train, she glanced into the first few compartments, hoping to see a specific familiar face. That girl Thalia she had met during her shopping trip had been particularly amiable, and she was hoping to locate her for the train ride up. Otherwise it would be a pretty long and lonely train ride if she were on her own. She didn’t see her in the first two compartments and so kept going, only to find some students blocking the way forward, standing in the hallway chatting with people in the hall. “Would you move out of the way? You’re causing a traffic jam!” She bellowed in frustration, arms crossed as she glared daggers at the boys in her path.

The stranger didn't seem to notice Dustin standing right behind him, even though Thalia had called out to the boy. It was becoming a little awkward; she couldn't just tell someone who was nearly an adult to move so her cousin could get into the compartment.
Even while feeling flustered and somewhat irritated, she noted that the older student's name was quite odd. She had never heard of another Calvin. Perhaps it was more popular in his country. "I'm Thalia, and this is Ella," she made the introductions a little impatiently. "And that's Blaise, and Dustin." He hadn't really asked for the boys' names, but she thought that drawing his attention to them would make him realize he was blocking the way.
A familiar voice reached her ears then, raised with a negative emotion. "Meredith?" she breathed, suddenly excited and a lot more frustrated about the door being blocked. Doing her best to remain polite, she glanced up at Calvin expectantly.

Not a damsel in distress, then. After exchanging a fair amount of letters with Julian, Olivia could decipher his comment as a compliment. She hadn't truly considered herself to be a helpless victim, either. The standoff would have been a lot nastier if she'd needed to face that older kid alone, but it certainly wouldn't have been one-sided nastiness. It warmed her to know this would be the first impression Julian had of her - someone to stand up to an older bully and prevail, albeit with some help.
A part of her wanted to keep displaying noteworthy qualities, to raise his opinion of her as high as it could get before her name was revealed and his preconceptions stalled the process. Only, how could she avoid introducing herself if she stuck around? Giving a fake name would only cause him to become furious when she was called forth during the Sorting Ceremony. Departing in search of another compartment was the wisest option now. And the most prosaic one.
Julian seemed to be searching her face - for what, she couldn't tell. She was confident he couldn't accidentally spot family resemblance - there was little of it, mostly in the hair colour and pale skin, which wasn't enough to determine kinship. Perhaps he was just trying to guess if she could be a tolerable travelling companion. Her hunch was confirmed when he tossed the offhand invitation her way.
This made it far too tempting. Olivia picked her trunk off the floor, hastily considering her options. Julian hadn't asked for her name so far, and didn't seem interested enough to do so. She had nothing on her that could betray her identity. Ascalaphus, along with the other two owls her family owned, had been temporarily claimed by Mother to deliver invitations to a soirée she was arranging. None of her belongings were labelled, not even with initials. Augustus and his friends, the only people on this train who knew her, were seated a few wagons away. This could work... as long as nobody joined them and forced a round of introductions - after which she would have to flee and find a new seat. Until then, she could claim she had no idea the stranger was Julian, and blame her parents for not providing her with a picture of the person they wanted her to avoid.
The first-year wheeled her trunk inside and slid the door shut. Julian seemed intent on reading his book in peace, which was fine by her. She didn't need to constantly chat with him to enjoy the situation. In fact, exchanging few words was the safest path. She could do some reading as well. After unfastening the clasps of her trunk, she opened the lid and rummaged in search of a likely book. A Beginner's Guide to Magical Beings by Vittoria Romano was the first to catch her eyes. Beings Studies was a relatively new propaganda-focused class, meant to brainwash the youngest students into believing creatures like centaurs, merpeople, goblins and the Veela were just slightly different-looking humans. Olivia wanted to see what the textbook had to say, so she could prepare some inconvenient questions for the professor.
She removed her chosen bit of literature and sealed the trunk again. Now came the best part. The girl took out her wand and performed the familiar swish-and-flick. "Wingardium Leviosa." Her trunk floated up into the air, nearly reaching the ceiling of the compartment; Olivia reached up with her free hand and pushed it into the shelf above her seat. She had learned to cast a handful of basic spells with her parents' wands; now that she had her own, the familiar charms were even easier to perform. Pleased to have demonstrated her magical ability, she settled into the seat opposite to Julian and opened her textbook at the index page.
