limitations,
If you want a unique Potterverse Species (Veela, Werewolf, etc.) or a Special Ability (Animagus, Legilimens, etc.), make sure to check the
Species/Special Abilities claim to see if it's available.
Welcome to TB, an all levels Harry Potter roleplay with no word count. Our purpose is to go through the books with one exception: the addition of original characters and what changes that makes.
We accept all beings and creatures in the Harry Potter verse including ghosts, veela, muggles and even centaur.
We have many active events ongoing for both students and adults and many characters and locations around the world.
Come join us and discover how your character can grow and evolve in the world of Harry Potter.

character species
All species are listed here (abilities are listed below with their own requirements). You may claim a species only when applying. If you want to have it for your character afterward, you cannot, as that wouldn't make sense to suddenly be a Veela, for example, when you weren't before.
However, being turned into a werewolf or vampire via roleplay is acceptable at any time. Simply link to the roleplaying thread where it happened.
Please note that there are some natural abilities (Metamorphmagus, Seer, etc.) that aren't necessarily 'species', but are natural abilities that cannot be learned and therefore are in this section, as the claims for them go the same as the species (werewolf, vampire, etc.).
We have limits because it's not realistic for there to be so many special species and abilities. There were probably only 2-3% of the book characters with them, so the fact that we allow 28% of our characters to have them is lenient enough. Also, to be fair to the other writers, any writer may only possess up to five species/abilities listed here (not five characters - so if you have one character who has 3, that counts as 3/5).
If you've been accepted within the last seven (7) days, you may sign up for an ability. If you've been here for a while, though, I'm sorry, but you can't. It wouldn't make any sense if suddenly had a power and never did before. However, you may begin training for an ability at any point in time.
Also, if your name isn't here and it says it in your profile that you have an ability, please reply here. However, not everyone will be accepted.
If you are a student and want to be trained in an ability, you will need to get Eliza's permission if your mentor will be a faculty member. If you are secretly learning it out of school on holidays, you won't need Eliza's permission. However, it will take longer (not before graduation). At the moment, Eliza will not accept Legilimency training without very good reason, as that is an offensive and intrusive ability, while Occlumency is strictly a defensive ability and much more encouraged.
The year beside training is when they will be finished. So 2022/2023 means that at around Sept 2022, we will adjust that they have finished their training.
Whether you are a student or an adult, you will need a mentor. They can be NPC, but it's always more fun if it's someone to write with. Feel free to request this plot from someone who already has the same ability.
animagi
3% of characters | NONE available Please note that this ability requires years of practice. We will not be accepting animagi under the age of 17, though you may sign up to be 'in training' if underage (youngest can be 14).
5% of characters | NONE available Characters must be at least 15 to start training, and will not be considered trained until graduating from school, at least.
5% of characters | ONE available Characters must be at least 15 to start training, and will not be considered trained until graduating from school, at least.
Some people are rather exceptional at something. But only a select few are a prodigy. One in 5 million, actually. Which would round out to being 0.12% of the wizarding world in the UK which means no one can be this. However, as we already have a few, we see that we need to put a limit so that it's realistic. Very few characters can be a prodigy. But more can be gifted.
Please note that an admin will look over your application and posts to determine if they are a Prodigy or Gifted and their say is final. You must apply for this when you create your character as this is something a character is born with, not something developed.
PRODIGY -- Each writer may only have one (1). This is someone who is absolutely one in a million. Their skills and abilities come at a very early age. 'Exceptional' doesn't even cover it. No one else can really compare. No one will come along with their natural skills and abilities for another 50 years or even more. Ex. Mozart, Harry Potter.
GIFTED -- Each writer may only have two (2) if they don't have a prodigy or one (1) if they do. If you have a canon, they are priority for claims and you may not have extra because of this. This is someone who is rather exceptional at a skill or subject and always have been. They aren't just great at it, they are really one of the best at their subject most people have ever seen. There won't be another person like them for at least another 20 years. Example: Hermione, Dumbledore.
Please note that you cannot have a skill/ability that is too close to another one to get around the timing rule.
Please keep in mind that having either is SUPER RARE and that your character can still become very skilled at a subject even if they're not a 'natural'. This is not something that everyone should try to always have and you should not feel like your character isn't skilled if they aren't in one of the following lists.
prodigy
Must have a gap of at least 15 years before AND after their birth before there can be another prodigy. Must have a gap of at least 50 years before AND after their birth before there can be another with the same skill.
Must have a gap of at least 10 years before AND after their birth before there can be another gifted wizard. Must have a gap of at least 20 years before AND after their birth before there can be another with the same skill.

SPECIES
WEREWOLVES
- Are turned by being bitten or scratched by a werewolf. - Are not hot. Their internal temperature is just like any normal human being. - Change during the full moon around sunset, no other time. - Don't have conscious thought of their friends and humans around them while they're transformed. A human is a human, no matter how they're related to the werewolf. - Now have a Wolfsbane Potion to help their transformations, but they do still transform. The Potion makes it so they don't just try to kill everything in sight without conscious thought. However, their conscious thought that they keep with the potion is not of their human thoughts. They still are a wolf and would have wolf thoughts. - In werewolf form, are killed by silver {not necessarily a bullet} through their heart. In human form, can be killed using any normal means. - A bite or scratch by a werewolf in their human form will not make the victim have any wolf-like qualities. - Cannot also be Vampires. If a werewolf becomes a vampire, they lose their werewolf abilities, since they cannot change form anymore {which includes aging and changing into a werewolf}. - As of May 2006, Hogwarts does accept werewolf students, but there are restrictions on them. Read more here.
VAMPIRES
- Do not sparkle. They don't burst in the sunlight either. The sun bothers them and they wouldn't go out in the direct sunlight if they had the choice, but it does not harm them on any serious level unless they're out in it for too long {all day}. - Are colder than normal humans, but aren't absolutely freezing. Well, their heart isn't beating anymore. There's nothing to pump the blood through their body. - Need blood. Of course. They don't need human blood, but they do need some sort of blood. Although human blood would be the most satisfying for them, vampires can also survive off the blood of animals. - Need sleep or some sort of rest. - Do not eat human food, but they can for fun. It just doesn't satisfy any hunger. - Are very pale, but not more pale than naturally pale witches, wizards and muggles (aka their paleness is not a feature that can distinguish them as a vampire on its own). - There is a certain beauty to vampires, but they aren't suddenly the most beautiful person in the world when they're turned into a vampire. - Are not afraid of crucifixes or garlic. - Do not need an invitation to enter someone's home. - Are killed by their head being chopped off, extreme exposure of sunlight {for 6+ hours}, being burned to ashes or by being drained of blood completely. - Can still do magic if they were a witch or wizard prior to being turned. If they were a squib or muggle, they cannot do magic still. - Cannot hypnotize or change the memory of their prey (but if they can do magic, these abilities are able to be done with spells by any adept witch or wizard). - Can develop heightened senses only as pertaining to blood, but only through experience (takes many years of practice). Such examples would be the hearing of a heartbeat, smelling blood in the air, etc. A new vampire wouldn't be able to develop these for at least a few years, though. - Do not have to sleep during the day, though they do prefer it. - They are immortal, unless they are killed. Meaning, they do not age physically and can live forever unless they are killed. - Vampires cannot be werewolves. They are virtually dead and cannot change form. Therefore, they can't turn into werewolves. - Because their body freezes at the age they are, it does not produce any new cells like humans do. Therefore, they cannot have offspring with other vampires or any other type of creature (including humans). - A vampire is created by substantial blood exchange between the vampire and human (one drop won't do it - at least 4oz). Then, the human is killed. They arise a vampire after the next sunset.
POLTERGEISTS
- Can be harmed and can harm others. They can physically interact with objects and people. - They are not the same thing as ghosts. They are an embodiment of bad energy and may come into existence from a terrible event or catastrophe. - If they come into an existence from a terrible event where someone died, they do not become the embodiment of them. They are their own separate entity and have their own personality. - All poltergeists are negative in their intentions (mischievous, malcontent, etc.).
VEELA
- Are exceptionally beautiful and cause all men around them to mumble like idiots. - Full Veela, when angry, can throw fire and turn into bird-like creatures. When this happens for Half-Veela, their hands turn hot and grow a beak. When this happens to Quartre-Veela, their hands turn warm. - Veela have silver hair. Those who are half or quartre Veela tend to have blonde hair, as it mixes with wizards. - Veela can be male or female. However, male Veela don't have any of the powers that the female ones do - it's more of a dormant gene for them that will be passed on to their daughters. - Full Veela cannot do magic with a wand. They have their own forms of magic (the charm, fire and bird-like transformation). However, since males do not possess those abilities, they are like squibs. - Half-Veela don't have as much charm, but they still do affect men and their features are more normal as well. Quartre-Veela have even less Veela characteristics.
MAGICAL CREATURES
- There are many magical creatures in the wizarding world, including but not limited to Dementors, Centaur, House Elves, Lethifolds, Acromantulae, etc. Some do not have intelligent thought and would be hard to roleplay. If you are wondering if a certain creature exists in the wizarding world, please contact a staff member.
MUGGLES
- Muggles do not have magical powers. - There are certain enchantments in the world to ward off muggles [places like Hogwarts and Quidditch Stadiums]. - Muggles, as a whole, do not know about the magical world [except for the muggles who have family who are muggleborns].
SQUIB
- Squibs are the same as muggles, except they do know about the wizarding world because they were born into a magical family. - Some squibs try lessons and enchantments to be able to learn magic, but most do not work.
SPECIAL ABILITIES
METAMORPHMAGI
- Can change their appearance at will, but not to the point of becoming a different person. However, they can change things like their nose, eye colour, hair colour, etc. - Changing their appearance only changes the outside of them - they cannot change their age, gender or internal organs. - This is a genetic ability that is accumulated at birth and cannot be learned.
ANIMAGI
- Can only turn into one animal. - Can only turn into a non-magical animal [ex. cat, dog, bird - not a Basilisk, Dragon, etc.]. - Becoming an Animagus is a very advanced form of transfiguration and it takes many years to become one. - All Animagi, by law, are required to register with the Ministry of Magic.
SEER
- Seers have varying degrees of ability. Some can see far into the future, some can see only small events in their daily lives. - A Seer does not know absolutely everything that happens (only Mary-Sues do). - They are people too and do make mistakes and don't see things coming from time to time. - Some have premonitions out of the blue (not controlled), some have premonitions in their dreams. If they are very talented, they can look into the future by request, but what they see would be pertaining to individual lives - not the grand scheme or involving more than a few people. - All are very adept at Divination. (Any questions, PM Eliza.)
OCCLUMENS
- Can block out Legilimens from reading their thoughts. It is quite hard to become an Occlumens and takes a few years of practice. - This is a practiced skill that is a will of the mind. Occlumens don't yell 'Occlumency!' to stop a Legilimens from reading their mind. It's a testiment of willpower and strength of their mind to block out the Legilimens from performing Legilimency on them. - An Occlumens can try to block their mind all the time, though that would be rather tiring. It is easier for them if they know the other is a skilled Legilimens. This isn't always the case, though. - This can be done easier by avoiding eye contact and physical closeness with the Legilimens. - Having Occlumency doesn't make one better at lying or not giving away physical tells when they're lying (ex. biting one's lip, looking to the side, etc.).
LEGILIMENS
- Can read the minds of others. This power also takes quite a few years to perfect. However, they cannot read the minds of skilled Occlumens. - This is a spell, and when fully trained, is performed non-verbally. In a nutshell, this means that your character won't always know every thought the other characters know. Only if you non-verbally perform the spell can they know a particular thought that they other character is having at that moment. - It is easier to perform if in eye contact with the victim, they are physically close and if they are in a vulnerable or relaxed state. - It is more difficult if they are tense, far away and avoiding eye contact. It is increasingly difficult if they are also an Occlumens.
BEING MULTIPLE SPECIES / HAVING MULTIPLE ABILITIES
- This strictly does not happen. If a character is one species and something happens that they would become another (ex. get turned into a vampire), one of the two species would cancel the other out. - If they were a witch, wizard, muggle or squib and get turned into a vampire or werewolf, they will no longer be a witch, wizard, muggle or squib (but if they were a witch or wizard, they still do have magical abilities). - If they were a Veela and get turned into a werewolf or vampire, they will no longer be Veela. - If they were a werewolf and get turned into a vampire, they will no longer be a werewolf. - If they were a Metamorphmagus and get turned into a vampire or werewolf, they no longer are a Metamorphmagus {except werewolves can use those abilities, but only while in human form. Their wolf form can't use metamorphmagus abilities, however}. - If they were an Animagus and get turned into a vampire, they no longer are an Animagus. - If they are a Seer, Legilimens or Occlumens, they may retain those abilities no matter what species or abilities they have (though muggles and squibs cannot be Seers, Legilimens or Occlumens).
