BEAUXBATONS SHUNS FIRENZE

Five years ago in 1999, the Dodecawizard Tournament occurred - an extension of the renowned Triwizard Tournament. Instead of one Champion from three schools, it was extended to two Champions from six schools with only one Champion ending triumphant.

The event was probational. After the ressurrection of the Triwizard Tournament in 1994 and the tragic death of a Champion during the third and final task, it didn't look like the famous Tournament would be making another return. However, after it was concluded that the death of the Champion did not have to do with the nature of the task and instead was due to an external band of extremist wizards, the Tournament was allowed to continue.

Thankfully, there were no casualties in the first Dodecawizard Tournament. We are pleased to announce that it will return in 2004 at Beauxbatons Academy.

There have been changes to the line-up of the invited schools. Five years ago, the participating schools were Hogwarts, Firenze, Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, Xanadu and Salem. However, Firenze has not been invited to participate in this Dodecawizard Tournament.

It would be a safe assumption to conclude that a decision needed to be made between Britain and Italy due to the war and that it was made based on which school had stronger ties with Beauxbatons. Hogwarts has always had strong ties with the French school. Neither Beauxbatons or the French Ministry has officially confirmed the reasoning behind their decision.

This leaves room for a sixth school to join the Dodecawizard Tournament. No announcement has been made of who the final participating school will be. The ones on our radar are either Augustine in Australia, Selveira in Brazil or Dahshur in Egypt.

We will keep you informed on any news to do with the Dodecawizard Tournament leading up to the event and will continually report on them while they are in progress for those who cannot travel all the way to France to witness all of the events.
