A NEW KIND OF PROFESSOR
Eliza Cunningham has already made a splash just by existing. Being the first Muggleborn Headmistress of Hogwarts, she already has both criticism and support from various people in the country. She could carry on as normal with everything Flitwick laid out for her and still make a splash.
However, not even a month after her appointment - and with the school not even open yet - Headmistress Cunningham is already making changes to the school. There are now Associate Professors at Hogwarts for the core classes.
We asked her for the reasoning behind this major change.
"Those who teach the core classes are majorly overworked for far too long. Professors aren't just teachers. They are leaders, supervisors, babysitters, and with various extra duties that come with a live-in school. Some traditions are wonderful to keep but the welfare of my professors isn't something that should be taken for granted."
As always, there is some push back from the wizarding community. Many criticize her breaking tradition with this new addition and wonder if the education of the students will be sub-par.
A Hogwarts Governor ensured us that the quality of education and care for the students at Hogwarts will not diminish. The qualifications and requirements for becoming a Hogwarts professor will not change. However, the core professors will have more time to devote to aiding the school and students as well as maintaining a well being for themselves. If anything, the quality of education will improve, they ensured us.
There are others who agree, including an employee of the Apparition Test Centre.
"Any time I went to Hogwarts, I saw how the professors were overworked. They live there with the students every day. They're on duty all the time. They deserve more of a break like the professors who teach the elective classes."
A major change will always have opinions on both sides, but only time will tell if this is the right move for Hogwart or not. We're confident, however, that if this doesn't work out, Headmistress Cunningham and the Hogwarts Governors will do the right thing.
