Brooks was in the library and was pretty bitter about it. He’d been fairly lax about school stuff for most of his education at Hogwarts, but this year it had really hit home that he had to actually pass his exams. He did not want to repeat the year again. Admittedly he didn’t fail because of poor study, but he probably would have had he been able to sit his exams. Looking on the bright side he was doing some study for Care of Magical Creatures, his absolute favourite subject.
As he looked for a book to help him study, he saw another guy in the same section, looking a little lost. “Looking for something?” he asked. “The books aren’t that well ordered in this section unfortunately,” he smiled, knowing that he was probably the one who had messed up the order of the books by not putting them away properly. His sister would not be happy with him if she knew. AIDEN PINE

"Oh, hey," Aiden said as he looked to another student nearby. "Uhh, yeah. Lookin' to brush up on Potions, what with exams comin' up an' all... but somethin's gone amiss here."
Aiden stood there, hands on hips dressed in his school uniform, as he eyed the rows of books. He had no idea what had happened to the volumes on the shelves, they seemed to be in odd places or out of order, but that didn't deter the Hufflepuff. In fact, Aiden began to pick several large books from the rows, balanced on a hand and forearm, as he stacked and proceeded to start sorting the oversight out.
"I'll do some sortin' quickly, then get onto the potions refresher."
It wasn't wholly altruistic, Aiden also didn't like seeing the books scattered about, it didn't sit right in his mind.
"An' I think I know you, from around. You're Brooks, yeah? I'm Aiden... so, whatchu up to, boyo?"
“Fair enough, potions is a slow killer,” he said with a grin. He’d struggled with the written parts of the subject for a long time and had almost flunked a few too many a test. “It won’t be in this section though, this is mostly Care of Magical Creatures stuff. You’re gonna want to look on that shelf unless the books have been seriously messed up,” he said, pointing to it.
”Let me help you,” he said, walking over to help resort the books. The job wouldn’t take long with the two of them doing it. Plus, he felt a bit bad letting someone else clean up what was probably his mess. He stared with confusion as he saw potions books mixed with charms and care of magical creatures textbooks. “That’s weird,” he said. “These books normally aren’t in this section, I think someone’s been in here and messed them all up.” He knew that even he wouldn’t have mixed up the books that badly.
Brooks had to admit that he didn’t really understand everything the other boy was saying. He guessed they came from different places, but that shouldn’t stop the two from having a conversation. “Yeah, I’m Brooks. Aiden, isn’t it?” He was pretty sure that was his name, he’d seen him around the place. “Not much, just studying. Gotta pass my exams this year. How about you?” AIDEN PINE,
Aiden smirked and nodded. He understood that grind. The ever-present need to excel at Hogwarts, something he - as a muggleborn - had come to realize affected everyone, despite their connection to the wizarding world or not. At the end of the day, they were all just fellow students trying to get through what was essentially more complex high school.
"Sometimes I think the library does it," the Hufflepuff muttered, as he glanced about, as if sharing a secret. "I can't prove it. But, ya know, Hogwarts bein' Hogwarts an' all, am I right?"
It was nice to have help with some of the sorting, though. Not that Aiden planned to do all of it, of course, but maybe just enough to set things mostly right.
Don't want to put the librarian out of a job!
When Brooks responded, Aiden looked to him and grinned.
"Yeah, Aiden. An' I was plannin' on findin' a particular selection of potions books, just to take some notes, but then..."
Aiden looked up, beyond Brooks' head, and inclined his own head curiously.
"...huh."
And from the air behind, from the direction of the Restricted Section, a book floated down and landed in Aiden's hands. He had never really seen anything like that happen before, certainly never getting a restricted book that easily, so perhaps it meant something. Or maybe it had been dumb luck. Either way, the Hufflepuff turned the book in his hands and read the title--
"Book of Spells by Miranda Goshawk," he mumbled, as he flipped the thing open a few pages, noting a number of potions entries and even scribbles and notes in ink throughout. "I think help with me potions research just literally landed in me hands, boyo... how 'bout that, eh?"
