"Yes," Julian agreed with a single nod, "we do not require Mudblood technology to supplement or promote our own." The idea was ridiculous and Julian could only hope that whomever was currently working on the task at the Department was failing miserably and doomed to give up. Nevertheless, he was silently satisfied that Levi had agreed with his perspective. Julian listened as the other boy continued, drinking the concept in. "A study into blood and magic?" The idea was very interesting to say the least, and one that could potentially (finally) elevate Pureblood wizards and witches as the superior magic users. The potentiality that the research could result in insignificant findings was not something Julian could even fathom. Julian smirked, "Perhaps you should go into Ministerial work after graduation. I would very much like to read your findings."
As he relayed the tale of the wizard Raczidian, he watched Levi's eyes widen, and felt uncharacteristically exposed. Julian rarely spoke about his childhood - if ever - and had never before told anyone about the things his mother had taught him. It was a brief moment of self-inflicted insecurity. Julian forced himself to swallow it. He finished speaking, now leaning back in his chair, long legs stretched out underneath the table before him. He looked to the sky above, watching the dark clouds roll over, the cold air failing to reach them under the cafe's protective magical barrier.
"Do you think you'd ever be able to conjure a patronus?" It was the question that Julian had hoped to avoid given his doubt about noble magic. Would he be able to conjure a Patronus at all? Or would his forever be incorporeal and weak? The bedtime story had certainly provided Julian with serious misgivings about attempting the advanced spell. "Perhaps I am better suited to other forms of magic," he answered quietly after a moments pause. Defence Against the Dark Arts had thus far been a very interesting subject here at Hogwarts - and Julian intended to keep studying. For what better offense with Dark Magic was there than to learn what others may utilize against him? There was no better lesson.
Julian smirked at Levi as he brought his hands up to his face, "trying and succeeding,". The light conversation then turned grave as Hilfiger mentioned not wanting to get matched with anyone yet. Julian crossed his legs, shaking his head, "must be early discussions then," he said, more to himself than the boy across from him. If Levi's father hadn't brought forward a match it meant that the man was still in conversations about it - or waiting for the right one to approach the family. He almost snorted when Hilfiger mentioned his ideal body, "ideal body, oversized head." If he had to trim his friends ego so be it. It was true, however: Levi was in shape and clearly looked after himself. Julian, on the other hand, was likely underweight due to poor eating habits stemming from the past years stress. He had an almost gaunt appearance, with his tall frame and hollowed cheekbones. He was aware that he needed to be stronger. A strong mind but a weak body was no good. He made a mental note to watch his food intake and take up some exercise.
"Well how do you plan to expand the blood purity line or our blood purity line." Levi's question brought Julian out from his thoughts and he hesitated, not having thought much on the matter of extending his own bloodline. Julian was not one for relationships - he had not been interested in any of the girls at school, much less considered dating. At fourteen he had expected some form of personal curiosity, but none had come. Perhaps it was the aforementioned stress, or perhaps Julian's heart was simply closed to letting someone in. "I will do what must be done if needed," he responded darkly, not at all keen on the prospect, "the Mulciber line unfortunately has not spawned many male heirs. Myself, and my cousin Augustus are the only prosects to continue our lineage." He did not like his Uncle Marcellus due to his families' feud, but Julian had found some solace in his younger cousin Olivia - whom he had begun conversing with in secret. She had proven to be intelligent and quick-witted, and more like himself than Julian would care to admit. His own younger sister would indeed have to marry into a Pureblood family as well, though any children of that union would take their fathers namesake. Moreover, Julian was uncertain if Marcus Mulciber would attempt another marriage. He was still relatively young, and could produce more male children - but somehow Julian doubted Marcus was in the right mind-frame for that.
Levi was speaking again, mentioning the ability of Pureblood students to pick up magic faster than non-magical students. Julian looked at Levi, "if its a variance enough for you to notice it, then perhaps there is more standing for your pureblood study after all." He responded, thinking back on Levi's earlier comments.
Now they had a problem. Julian had tensed up, still hesitating on whether or not he wanted this to turn ugly. He continued glaring at the messenger with the outstretched hand, watching the boy falter and his smile vanish. Levi was speaking, but Julian heard everything as though he were underwater. He was acutely aware of how many inches the man was away from him - too close for comfort. If the man so much as brushed him he knew it was over.
The boy shifted then, extending the flyer further toward him. Julian had unknowingly grasped his wand fully now, body sliding slightly away from the approach in his chair, legs burning in anticipation, chest pounding.
"Julian, don't." Levi's words cut through the tension, and although Julian remained fixated on Flava, the sounds around him were becoming clearer. It was as though an invisible needle had popped the bubble Julian had submerged himself in and he blinked once, peripheral vision catching more movement to his side. Their waiter was returning with more of their ordered food, and had spotted the intrusion.
"Excuse me sir, this is private property, you can't be advertising in here." Their waiter smoothly intervened, and Julian watched Flava's hand drop away from him. He exhaled softly, the breath releasing his agitation as he forced his fingers to release his wand. Flava exchanged some quiet words with their waiter, who didn't seem to be giving an inch, much to Julian's satisfaction. Eventually, after a moment, the pro-Mudbloods left.
Julian had slowed his heartbeat, listening vaguely as the waiter apologized for the disturbance, placing Levi's steak, and Julian's pie down along with the black coffee on the table. Julian watched the coffee steam, waiting for the waiter to retreat before reaching for it, seeing his knuckles still white from the strength he was using to grip his wand. He lifted the mug, taking a long dreg of his coffee, letting the hot drink consume him, heating his insides. "They're everywhere," he said finally, once he had drunk his fill and lowered the mug. "When can we start this training, then?"
