When he had graduated last year there had been a surreal feeling of relief to no longer need to worry about exams and a dread that he was an adult with a whole new set of problems. The first one being him going into Auror work at the same place his mother and step-father worked, a new government for Scotland. It was difficult to balance the learning curve with making his parents proud and yet still being his own person.
This included learning to drive. Yes, he could have asked his mother or his step-father for help in this, or even his own dad, given that they had learned in his grandparents' old Ford Anglia. Maybe it was a bit of stubbornness that had led him to talk about driving to the shop where he had been buying new robes. Dominic had been nice, and Andy had limited people to speak to about these things that weren't family or family-adjacent.
"Thanks for doing this." Andy said, feeling a bit nervous as he stood next to the beater car he had rented to learn from. It had been spur of the moment when he had spotted this rent-a-car lot and simply decided it was time to learn. He was not going to commit to buying his own vehicle unless he absolutely had to, and certainly if he couldn't get a license to begin with. So renting had made sense and it was less expensive than purchasing one.
The problem was he was now standing in the lot next to it, frazzled and unsure how to go about practising on his own, which is when he had contacted his new acquaintance. Friend maybe? "I didn't know who else might be able to help on short notice." Really short notice, and he was relieved the other had even agreed to help and get here. He breathed out and gestured with one hand at the vehicle. "Honestly I should have thought this through a bit more before coming here, I couldn't even figure out how to turn it on."

Dominic figured he should find something to do other than what he was currently doing. He didn't know what though was the problem. He just felt listless and without direction. Oh well, at least it wasn't like he was broke. He got paid well by his aunt.
Given his uncle had been a muggle studies professor, Dominic knew more about muggle stuff than most wizards his age. He didn't have an actual license or anything but he had been fairly confident that he could teach someone how to drive a car. Not that he had done so extensively - a car wouldn't really fit in the passage where he worked and Dominic wasn't even sure if it would actually work at all - so he had no reason to need to drive. Magic and muggle technology did not tend to make good bedfellows in heavily magical areas.
Now that they were here, Dominic had to admit that he had probably been overconfident. Still. He knew the basics and had driven a vehicle at least a couple of times before. Technically illegally in muggle terms but that was neither here or there. He definitely at least knew how to turn the car on.
"That's all right," Dominic said with more confidence than he felt. He wanted to seem like the Cool Older Guy Who Knows Stuff. "Do you have the keys? Putting them into the little slot by the wheel is the first step."
