Having been dropped off at King's Cross main entrance with only a hasty farewell from his parents, Don entered Platform 9¾ all alone. It was uncomfortably close to the train departure time, and it seemed that most students were already aboard. Drat! It meant the best seats would be taken. He doubted he could find Rose or Willow quickly, and even if he did, their compartments might be full. After passing three full wagons and not spotting a single friendly face, he decided this trip was best spent making new acquaintances. Perhaps he could go search for his buddies a bit later - it would be hours until they arrived at Hogsmeade, after all.
Lowering his compartment criteria from 'must contain a friend' to 'must have a vacant seat', he found a likely spot at once. The two girls already present there were familiar to him only by sight, as both of them were younger. He couldn't recall having ever interacted with either of them before. Don put on his most charming grin as he stepped inside with his trunk in tow.
"Hello, ladies. May I join you for this ride?" His neon-green Pygmy Puff chose this moment to poke a coal-black nose out of Don's vest pocket, sniffing the air curiously. The rest of the fluffy creature soon followed, nearly plummeting to the floor; luckily, years of experience with the energetic creature developed Don's reaction time enough to catch it in time. He straightened up, still cheerful. "My name is Domhnall - though you can call me Don - and this is Pickles."

What normally was meant to be a quite exciting and happy day ended up being one of the most heart-breaking moments. As he made his way to Compartment 10, he watched as children waved back to their parents through the windows and yet here was Henri, waving to no one. He wondered when the others would arrive and if they would keep him busy and away from his own thoughts or if he was to suffer the train ride alone.

He was totally oblivious of his surroundings when he noticed the others around him that almost seemed to pop out of nowhere. Surely kids in Hogwarts weren't allowed to apperate already? "No way, when did youse all get there aye?" He asked smiling at all the small people around him before finally recognising it was getting a little crowded here. " Well thank you all for your assistance. " He said as he nodded and actually made his way to another compartment leaving the small people to be with other people who seemed to be around their age. Now, Calvin had to float around and find someone or somewhere else to place himself in order to find a compartment to sit in, The train was due to move soon.

Levi was busy doing normal Levi things. That of course either being studying or eating a whole lot of snacks that he prepared for the train journey which would in reality, only last a good 5 -10 minutes with Levi's growing boy eating habits. Whilst he waited for the rest of the train to fill up with other students, Levi decided to begin his little massacre of sweets he had packed with him. Munching away, he began to open up a theory of dark arts book. Despite not being enrolled in this subject, it was an area of interest for the young wizard.
"Hello." He replied instantly with a gummy snake hanging out of his mouth upon seeing a figure approach him as he peeped over the top frame of his book to see Nicha in front of him. He didn't notice who it was at first till he lowered his book to get a clear view. "Yeah feel free to join. No one else is here anyway. " He replied with a smile on his face as he pushed over a small bag filled with snacks. "Help yourself please. " He said nodding his head as he scooped the gummy worm into his mouth.

The cover of the book Levi was reading looked a bit… dark? gruesome? Nicha did not catch the title, but she assumed it was one of those horror novels boys seemed to like! She was not a big bookworm herself, had never read seriously on a journey to or from Hogwarts, and was not about to start now. If her compartment sharer wanted to continue reading, she would of course respect that and do something else on her own. However, she did hope he would chat with her for a little bit. She missed all her school pals so much over the break and wanted to know what they had been up to!
“Thanks! Have some rice crackers if you want. This one’s pretty spicy, but the brown one’s alright.” She busied herself sitting down opposite her classmate, moving her cat onto her lap, opening her carry-on backpack and taking out her own box of Thai snacks that Mom packed for her. After pointing out which crackers to be careful of, Nicha examined the snack bag she received and picked out a Jelly Slug to begin with. She wiped her hand on patted her cat soothingly as she continued, “Meet Bua, he’s new to our family! How has your break been?”

"Hi Thalia." He was glad his cousin had spotted him, having felt very awkward just standing here waiting to see what happened. Not that the older foreign student seemed to notice his presence at all despite her greeting. Maybe he was lost? Dustin had no idea how foreigners travelled to their schools so maybe the train was a confusing concept. The yelling from behind him made him jump a little, turning his head to see the Ravenclaw girl, Meredith he thought her name was.
"Sorry I just didn't want to push past-" He went to gesture to the older boy when he seemingly noticed them standing there. This left him and Meredith to figure out who was going to sit here and who was going to go off to find another compartment. His eyes nervously went to Blaise sitting in there and decided he might as well ask if she meant to sit here. it wouldn't kill him to sit elsewhere. It was just one train ride and they had all school year, right? "Were you wanting to sit here?"
Post by JUNG SO MIN on Apr 11, 2024 20:32:44 GMT -5
Jung So Min had gotten up to chapter four of her book, knew the train would be leaving the station soon and put her book away. She noticed that she was still the only one in her compartment, hoped someone would come to sit with her and looked down to see her owl Asher asleep. She starts to think about her classes, is taking her favorite classes and can't believe she is in her sixth year now. She is glad that she already knows what she wants to do after she graduates and has the support of her family. She had practiced her singing over the summer, also written some songs and her friends loved them. She looked at the time, they had only a few minutes left until the train left and heard the other students on the train chatting with each other.
Two older students entered the compartment, one right after the other. Happy to have company she waved back and moved over so they could sit down. “Of course, I don’t mind at all.” More friends to chat with and maybe, just maybe, they liked the same things she did. It wouldn’t hurt to find out.
“Pickles?! Oh how cute! He’s a pygmy puff, right? How old is Pickles?” Insuk got overly excited when she saw pets. Her halmeoni wouldn’t let her get one, no matter how good she was. The older woman thought that animals belonged outside and outside only. Living with her halmeoni and being able to help her around the house was nice. Insuk was allowed to do science experiments because it was a form of studying. She just wasn’t allowed to have a cute cuddly furball like the neon-green ball clasped in Don’s hands.

The younger girl's evident interest in his pet brightened up Don's mood even more. Back at home, Pickles received very little attention - only one of his sisters liked the little creature, while everyone else was either indifferent, wary, or disgusted. His mother was the worst, calling the critter a 'dyed rat'. Having someone admire Pickles had been long overdue.
"He is! And he's almost three years old now. Would you like to hold him? He doesn't bite, though he might try to steal your food if you have any." He offered the green fluff to her. Pickles had no capacity for shyness in its little skull; the chance to be cradled in a stranger's palm - and possibly receive treats - only made the Pygmy Puff more excited.
A commotion not far from their compartment attracted Don's attention. He heard a young girl shout at someone about blocking the way, and poked his head out to see what was happening. A traffic jam had indeed formed in front of a nearby compartment. Out of all those stuck in it, one person stood out the most - a teenager much taller than the kids around him, whose speech sounded quite out of place. The outburst Don had heard must have been aimed at this older student. What happened to respecting one's elders? He felt bad for the foreigner.
"Oi, mate!" he called to the teenager in his best imitation of Australian accent, before reverting to his usual trying-not-to-sound-too-Irish voice. "If you're looking for a compartment, there's a free seat in this one."
Post by MEREDITH MORGAN FAY on Apr 11, 2024 22:09:02 GMT -5
Meredith rolled her eyes at the older boy’s surprise - was he really that oblivious to his surroundings? - glad when he finally moved along. Not the best first impression, yelling at another student, but maybe he shouldn’t have been in the way of an obviously crowded hallway. Some people were just so inconsiderate. Having recognized Thalia’s voice from within the compartment he was blocking, she poked her head in to see the one person she’d been looking for, already in a filled compartment. It turned out the other boy had been waiting to join the three students already in the compartment, which meant Meredith was left without a seat.
Her excitement waned for a moment, but she quickly shook it off. She was tempted to take the boy’s offer, securing herself a spot with Thalia, but she could tell the idea was not appealing to him. Might as well salvage some of her reputation in front of the other students. If they were friends of Thalia’s then they must be worth knowing, and she didn’t want to ruin that so soon. “Nah, it’s fine,” she answered in her strong american accent. “I’m Meredith, by the way. Meredith Morgan Fay.” She always had to flex her lineage whenever possible, particularly when meeting new people. How else would they know how important she was?
“Thalia, I’m going to go find another compartment. Feel free to come join me later if you want.” She tried to ask nonchalantly, but secretly she really hoped Thalia would ditch the others and join her. With that she turned away to find herself a spot to sit. Not exactly how she wanted to start her first day at a new school, but she should have expected Thalia would already have friends to sit with. Maybe she would be able to meet some other new people.
It seemed by that time most compartments had already filled up, leaving her with very few options for seating. As she reached the end of the train she found only one empty compartment and quickly claimed it for herself. This way, if Thalia were to join her, there was sure to be enough room for the both of them. Dropping her bag on the bench next to her, she took the seat next to the window with a sigh and stared out at the train platform, watching the last few students board before departure.

Ella was glad that Thalia took the initiative to make the introductions as she still felt a bit flustered by Calvin. Working up her courage, she was about to say that it was good to meet him, when she heard some other student yelling at him. How rude! He was just asking for help, there was no need to be so abrupt. Unfortunately the interruption caught his attention, and he quickly vacated the area, leaving Ella waving sadly as he left.
The student in question quickly made their presence known. It was a girl she hadn’t seen before, with pale blonde, almost white, hair and light green eyes. She looked about their age, but Ella didn’t recall seeing her the previous year. Perhaps she was a new transfer? Somehow, however, the girl seemed to know Thalia. Ella wasn’t sure why, but she got a bad vibe from her, and immediately felt very protective over her cousin. Luckily the girl didn’t cause a fuss and 'let' Dustin have the seat, although in Ella’s opinion he had been there first and so the other girl had no claim to it.
As soon as she was gone, Ella turned her attention to Thalia. “How do you know her?” She asked in a casual tone. She tried to keep her feelings to herself, not wanting to cast judgment too soon. After all, she didn’t actually know the girl, so maybe she was just having a rough day or something.
Grateful that she now had not one but TWO other students to sit with for the journey, Romy put her trunk away and sat down beside the Ravenclaw. “And my name is Rosemary, but you can call me Romy!” she chipped in. Unlike Don, she did not have a pet to introduce, but she was more than okay with little Pickles here receiving all the attention he deserved. Not very good at expressing her excitement outwardly, she did not say anything but extended her hands expectantly, prepared to hold the pygmy puff after Insuk had her turn.
Speaking of food, “I do have some cookies that I baked, um, for us! not Pickles, though he can eat it too. Do you guys want some?” As she spoke, Romy took out a box and opened the lid to reveal an assortment of fresh baked goods while Don invited another person outside their compartment whom she could not see from her seat. She certainly had enough cookies for all of them to share. In fact, the more the merrier!

With the new student gone from the doorway, Thalia could see both Dustin and Meredith standing just outside the compartment. She watched them figure out which one should take the last remaining seat, feeling a little conflicted. In her mind, both of them were equally welcome; Dustin should be able to ride with his sister and friends, but Meredith should have someone she knew with her to make the trip to her new school less nerve-racking. There really was only one solution - Thalia would have to join her new friend in another compartment, and hope neither Ella, Blaise nor Dustin would get upset.
"I'll join you shortly!" she called after Meredith. First, she had to speedily catch up with her cousins and Blaise.
She smiled at Dustin. "How was your summer? Any updates on the pet situation?" Thalia remembered him wanting a rat and still not having one during the previous term, though she wasn't sure if it was his parents blocking him or the amount of care that type of pet might require.
Ella's inquiry reminded her that she should hurry up and follow Meredith, before the compartment she settled in could run out of free seats. "I met her in Diagon Alley. She transferred from Salem Academy, and she'll be starting as a second-year." Conscious of the fact that Ella might have disliked the outburst in the corridor - which had been called for, in Thalia's mind - she felt the need to add, "I think she's stressed about her first day, since she barely knows anyone and all her classmates already know each other. I want to ride with her so she has at least one friendly face around... and she'll probably have lots of questions about Hogwarts. I hope that's alright?" The question was directed at all three of her companions. Leaving the compartment full of her friends to spend time with a new acquaintance could seem like an odd choice, but Thalia felt that it was the right thing to do.

The Labrador style personality of Calvin walked from compartment to compartment finding some full, some empty and some with people who had both pleasing and curious personalities. He stopped by another compartment when he was invited to join them for cookies and possibly a seat. “ Thank you for the offer but I’ll pass on this instance. “ He replied with a smile on his face as his Australian accent came racing through his mouth. “ What friendly people.” He said once more before bowing his head and moving on to the next compartment.
He was about to leave when he heard another person call out to him “ Yo!” He said leaning back and placing his head through the doorway. With two offers to join their compartment now spewing out of the people, he decided to finally take up on their offer. “ Yeah alright, heat me up a warmie. “ He said as he made his way in and took a seat.
“ G’day. I’m Calvin. I’m a Fourth year I think. “ He said still feeling a bit confused with all that was happening and the sudden transfer between schools. “ What were your names?” He then asked with a smile on his face.
Notes: He’s an Aussie and totally oblivious to how Hogwarts works so feel free to make fun of things haha. Also very lost at how quickly this thread moved hahah

It always left the young Ravenclaw confused on how to answer whenever he was asked how his break was. Mainly because it wasn’t really a break at all. His learning continued all the way through the break with his father’s unique way of mentoring him. Of course he had to continue the charade that he had a perfect holiday. “ My break was interesting. “ He said no more and simply left it at that before directing the conversation elsewhere.
“ Spicy?” Although Levi wasn’t a fan of spicy food, he would always give things a try. Taking a bite into the rice cracker left a slight tingle in his mouth that seemed to grow stronger with every chew. “ Oh wow. “ He said swallowing and chewing his food faster. “You weren’t joking at all when you said spicy. “ He began to consume another sweet snack to try and offset the spicy mess in his mouth. “ That’s a cute name for a cat! “ He said as he heard the first whistle in the distance indicating it was the first call to board.
