Annabelle continued to scribble as she listened to the professor. She then glanced at Julian, as she smiled kindly at him. Then she looked over at the professor as she continued to listen to the Professor, as well as anyone else who spoke about the subject. Since both Annabelle and Julian were both purebloods and Slytherin, was enough for her not to snap at him or anything like that for sitting by her and such. Also the fact that he as far as she could tell at least, didn't seem to like Muggle borns either, it truly did help a lot. Annabelle tried not to think of that so as she did the best that she could to focus on the class. She knew that she hadn't interacted with him before but being that she was perfect and all, she planned to interact with him this year, if he agreed, despite the fact that she was in fact older than him. Annabelle didn't mind interacting with those from her house, whether she liked them or not, if she had too but with the guy by her it didn't seem to be an issue, despite her being older than him, as he seemed nice and a good guy. It was the case even without her thinking about it at all.
Annabelle looked down as she continued to write the needed information. She did the best that she could to be able to cast the spell before she went and cast it, in order to avoid mistakes. Annabelle was a perfect and slowly getting close to graduating, if she managed to oass this year, and therefore she couldn't afford mistakes, especially if she hoped to be able to graduate, which she truly wished ro graduate, more than anything in the world. It was the case whether she thought of that or like many other things. Which was why she didn't think of that and only focused on the class instead. Here and there Annabelle looked around herself. At times she even glanced at Julian and then she always looked back at the professor.

The Gryffindor Prefect's query landed outside the bounds of Maeve's knowledge. She did not know who created the charm in question, nor when, although she was convinced the witch hunts could not have necessitated it. Fighting off a bunch of Muggle peasants wielding nothing but pitchforks would be easy, if the accosted with or wizard retained their wand. If the wand was taken away, however, the Flame-Freezing Charm could not even be used. Not knowing for certain, however, she left it to Professor Channing to provide the answer.

Being around other people who were just as invested into Charms as he was provided a welcoming nature for the young Hufflepuff. Although he did show a keen interest in the subject and despite being so called gifted in the field of magic, he had become rather withdrawn considering the series of events that occurred just prior to the new school term. With that being said, he placed his chin to the table and began to write down some notes into his little notebook as he remained quiet while listening to the other active conversations around him.

Nicha really liked that the different charms they were learning had a common theme - fire. She thought it could get difficult planning a class with students of such varying skill levels, and appreciated that while they had to study two different spells based on their years, the two were not entirely separate from each other and their respective lessons would not be all over the place.
On second thought… perhaps the professor simply squashed the two charms into one lesson to minimise the amount of flames thrown around. Either way, Nicha felt that it was a nice touch.
The only use of the fire-drawing charm that she could think of was for entertainment or otherwise attention-seeking purposes, which she thought was not the answer that Professor Channing most wanted to hear. She liked the idea of survival that Phoebe brought up though, and nodded encouragingly as she continued listening to her classmates. However, she could not help her concentration from drifting in and out of the discussion… eventually landing on the housemate seated beside her. Henri seemed to be rather quiet this term, and his posture suggested to her that he was either bored or struggling to fully participate in class. The fifth year nudged him gently and raised her eyebrows with a small smile, which was her way of asking, “You alright?”

“Well done. Yes, the flame-freezing charm was used during medieval times to save witches and wizards from being burned alive. As you may have learned in your history classes, the charm feels quite pleasant, and some witches enjoyed the feeling. Depending on the individual, it can feel like a warm breeze, or to some, as though they are being tickled.” Only someone missing a few gobstones would enjoy being tickled while muggles tried to cook them alive. Getting caught was bad enough. Muggles were such fearmongers. Afraid of their shadows and using ghost stories to control others. If only they knew how many truly monstrous beasts were out there. They’d likely wet themselves in fear.
“Though that is most famous use of the charm, it was not created exclusively for that purpose.” The boy should have already learned about the charm’s uncomfortable history in history of magic. That he didn’t seem to know it, was not a good look for her colleague. Lilith decided to give the history professor the benefit of the doubt and blame it on children and their sieve-like memory.
“Its main uses today, include what Miss Thorne said, to reduce damage from fires, as well as to child-proof homes and daycares in the magical world.” She wasn’t sure how muggles did it, though she imagined they likely let their children set fires and hope a tiny hose saved their house.
“Correct Mr. Hilfiger, flagrate is the incantation for the fire drawing charm, and as Miss Abbott said, it can be used as a signal in emergencies. It is also used during large events to send messages quickly. Confidential information, of course, would never be sent this way. It should also be noted that using this charm in heavily muggle-populated areas is not recommended." For obvious reasons. She didn't think she needed to explain why unless they asked.
“You may practice your charms alone, with a partner or very small groups. For the fourth and fifth years, I suggest starting small with the words you want to write. Work your way up to longer words and then finally small sentences if you are able. Any inappropriate language will earn detention and a loss of house points, so choose your words wisely.” Before turning to the older students, Lilith remembered to warn her students about proper charms safety. “Also, please remember to write into the air. Your classmates will not appreciate burnt robes with your chicken scratch on them.”
“Sixth and seventh years, it wouldn’t hurt for you to review the fire-writing charm. At the end of class you will be working with the younger students and need both of today’s charms. Try the charm on different-sized flames, I trust you all remember how to create one. The light from your wand should be white, any other colour and you have not done it correctly. For those of you not confident in your abilities, There are some old quills on my desk you can use to test your charm. Do NOT use your hands.” She didn’t trust them at all, but if they couldn’t do it now, they were doomed to fail their N.E.W.T.s and it wouldn’t be because of her.

Jarod listened as he tried to memorise the spell or the spells taugh as he wanted to prenouce it right. He wanted to be sure that he did the spell right. Jarod hoped not to mess up as he practiced the wand movement. He moved to the side as he almost hit himself with his hand as well as his wand. Jarod sighed and tried again. Then he did the spell as he wrote the message with the wand movement as he used the spell. It did work, except to Jarod's shock, horror and surprise the letters were upside down. "What the...?" He said in a whisper as he was shocked by that. He shook his head. To say that he didn't plan on that was an understandment of the century. The message and the spell were fine, it just didn't show up exactly as he planbed. Jarod didn't gave up so. He tried a few times until it came out right. He sighed in relief at that. Jarod was glad that it finally worked when it worked.

It had been at least three years since Maeve last used the Fire-Drawing Charm. She had never needed it outside of a classroom... Although, admittedly, she could imagine it looking fairly impressive if she skipped using a blackboard and wrote on air with flaming letters - both in the dueling club and during the private meetings with her study group.
Before starting on the more advanced spell, she decided to heed Channing's advice and practice the easier charm along with the younger students. Mindful of the need to improve non-verbal spellcasting - professors kept reminding seventh-years how vital the skill was - she did not utter the incantation. She chose to write her name, although the result looked less appealing than she had hoped. Her orderly cursive, so aesthetically pleasing on parchment, was too jagged as it hung in the air in front of her, blazing brightly. Even worse, it began fading as she watched, disappearing fully within less than a minute. No, this would not be viable for written instructions - she would have to keep using the blackboard.

Annabelle listened to the professor and nodded as she then tried to practice the spell before she tried to attemp it. She didn't want to mess it up or anything like that. Annabelle tried her best to believe in herself. She sighed as she looked around herself. Annabelle took a deep breath as she prepared to cast the spell. She looked around herself for a bit as she closed her eyes and took another deep breath. Then Annabelle tried to cast the spell once she was ready and it worked for her in her first try.

Julian felt Beckett's eyes on him every now and then, and wondered what she wanted. He continued to watch the rain solemnly, breathing silently and feeling comfort in the way he was seated: arms hugging his frame underneath his robes. It was warm in the classroom and he yearned to be out in the downpour - to feel the coldness on his skin and listen to the white noise the droplets created. His mind was beginning to wander as he listened to the conversation around him as the topic of Muggle witch-hunts was raised and the subsequent use of the Flame-Freezing Charm to counter any wizard idiotic enough to be caught from being fried.
You may practice your charms alone. Music to his ears. Julian brought his eyes back to the classroom, and blocked out the sound of the rain hitting the glass panes, drawing his wand. Flagrate was the incantation Hilfiger had suggested, and Julian could hear other students around him muttering the incantation as they began to practice, including the Slytherin Prefect beside him. At least her attention had turned to the charm practice rather than casting glances his way every few minutes. Julian had not attempted to interact with her yet, though as they were working individually there was not a need.
"Flagrate," Julian whispered, brandishing his wand gently in the shown manner before beginning to write in the air before himself, keeping it simple by carving out the word: flame. His writing was utterly unforgiveable in mid-air, and the flames in which his letters were scribed were rather weak. Julian watched as his word began to disappear letter by letter almost as quickly as he had written it: Flame ... lame (he wrinkled his nose) ... ame ... me ... e. Gone.
Obviously practice was necessary. His eyes darted over to Becketts work, noting that her word remained suspended there in the air, flaming. He tried not to bite his tongue at the sight - reminding himself that she was repeating her fifth year, and thus had likely already learned these charms.

How exactly is this going to e useful…. He pondered as he listened to the professor speak up about the flagrate Charm. She did make a valid and interesting point that during the early witch trails of the muggle world, the wizarding kind would use this charm to protect themselves He found this both interesting and disturbing none the less. “ Professor?” He asked as he raised his hand. “ A little of topic and I hope everyone doesn’t mind me asking, but why did the non-magics treat us like that?” He knew it was a question more suited for History of Magic or Muggle Studies but it was a question none the less.

Zoning out in this class was possibly the worst thing one can do under the leadership of Professor Channing who was intimidating in her very own way. He rolled his eyes at the conversations around him as a thought entered his mind.
How exactly is this fire writing spell gonna be protect me and the pack? What? I’m gonna tell the to stop attacking us in fire font?
He allowed his mind to wander for a few seconds before being nudged by another student in his house. “ Huh?” He greeted Nicha before looking over to her and back at the others around him conversing. “Oh, the spell’s Flagrate right? “ He responded totally oblivious to the fact that Nicha wasn’t even speaking to him verbally. “ You good?” He then asked trying to put on a false smile.

Levi quickly picked up his wand as his eyes began searching the room looking for someone to partner up with. “ Hey, wanna partner up?” He asked Lewis with a soft smile on his face. “ We can work on it together if you want? “ He then suggested hoping that Lewis would make the first attempt. “ Did you wanna try it first or if you want I can. “ He really hoped that Lewis would be willing to go first as Levi wasn’t too confident practising this one alone which was really out of the ordinary for him.

The funny Ravenclaw from the kitchens approached him and asked if he’d like to team up. Lewis had hoped to form a friendship with the guy so he didn’t want to decline the offer. Since he couldn’t speak he quickly scribbled with his quill; ‘sounds like a blast, we could practice after class but I’ll have work with the other sixth or seventh years.’ If his voice didn’t return by the time they had to do exams, he was worried about being held back a year. The last thing he wanted was getting separated from Ilona and Love. LEVI HILFIGER,

For some odd reason, Lewis wasn’t speaking. He shook his head curiously as his eyebrows met in the middle before watching his actions take a quill to paper. “ Dear Levi, why are you so amazing? “ He read out loud as a joke before letting out a small laugh. He did feel a slight pull to his heart with the fact he got denied however this only lasted a few seconds as he nodded his head.
“Sure thing. No problem. “ He finally replied on a more serious tone as he nodded and went back to his own table as he began to take out his wand and practised the incantation first over and over before finally waving his wand to sell out his name as he attempted the spell. “Flagrate.” He called out as he began to spell his name which came about rather successfully but noticed the flames would quickly dissipate.

Leo was ready to get to practicing. Charms was usually an easier subject when it came to practice than Defense Against the Dark Arts or Transfiguration, but it still took some work, especially if there was spelling involved. Leo preferred to take notes with a quick quotes quill or in braille, so waving his wand to write things out would've been just a little bit unusual for him. He was glad that he got to practice the other one instead.
He set about practicing, casting the spell on quills and testing them with the fire. It was a bit difficult to figure out if they were burning or not without putting his hand close to them, but he managed, especially since he seemed to be rather good at the charm. He was very glad to avoid the fire.
Leo is blind. Don't expect him to notice your character waving at him.
