So far, the punishment didn't sound too bad. Cleaning 'the mess' out without magic couldn't take too long. There were what, a few dozen Billywigs? They could collect the little insects quickly enough, while cleaning up the spilled drinks and dropped food. Losing house points also didn't hurt him, though a lot of his housemates were pretty touchy about Slytherin losing any of its lead. Their response to finding out he was to blame would likely be worse than whatever Lauren came up with.
It hadn't even occurred to Don that his rare wand wood would also indicate his ownership - not that he wanted to deny it. The professor appeared to have a great memory. He looked at Rose, since this was the last nail in the coffin of her plan - she couldn't claim the wand was hers anymore.
The Gryffindor already had a new plan, however. Don sighed as she forfeited his minimal protection and steered herself closer to the Muggle Studies professor, the loss of physical contact causing a twinge of disappointment. Her attempts to protect him weren't over yet, but he wasn't going to let her receive the harsher punishment. It was he who somehow slipped up and got caught, after all. "Well, I'm older than Rose and I'm clearly a bad influence on her, so if we look at the bigger picture, I'm the one who deserves punishment here," he declared, trying and failing not to grin at the joke. It might only serve to irritate Lauren further, but then again, it could actually lighten the mood a little.
At least he could join in on Rose's next scheme - making their crime seem lesser. "Exactly! And laughter is healthy, it's a known medical fact," he stated solemnly as the sounds of giggles and guffaws continued to ring in the Great Hall.
" Guilty." He responded to what Rose had stated speaking through his teeth as he forced himself to hold back what he truly wanted to say and do. He glanced back over to Don where he glared at the boy with a stern expression on his face, " 50 house points from Slytherin." He deducted feeling a sense of achievement with his words before looking back at Rose. " 50 house points from Gryffindor." Whilst 50 house points may not seem like much as it could easily be obtained again in their classes, the total amount deducted would of caused some ruckus between their student groups.
Rafe watched as Rose finally admitted her association to the incident and watched as she held her arms out. An eyebrow clocked at her actions, He waved his wand as he summoned some rope that he had planned to wrap around her arms. " Well, if you'd like to be treated as a criminal, then I'll treat you as one. " Naturally, the use of cuffs on students were forbidden unfortunately as it was never really required. Though now he believes there might be an amendment to the Professor Rule Book.
" This is not a good time Miss Weasley. " He snapped back as his icy blue eyes met with hers. " A small selection of the student body as well as the staff has had their meals disrupted due to your actions along side Mr.McEvoy." He dropped the rope to the floor and scoffed. " Disappointing really. If it were up to me, I would of deducted 100 house points. While they may mean nothing to you, to others in your house, this is a rude awakening of how quickly actions like yours will result in house point deduction. "
His eyes turned back over to Don as he listened to what he had to say. " I don't care who's older than who. You two can sort that out in detention. " The boy had the nerve to even state that laughing was medically a cure for things. Whilst true, Rafe was clearly not in a laughing mood. " Really now? Does it look like I'm laughing? " He asked as he now locked his icy blue eyes with his. " Consider yourself lucky. If I were Channing, you'd be roasted alive."

Although Thalia's situational awareness was being severely affected by the venom, some of what Professor Lauren was saying did reach her. He seemed to be pretty angry, and the two targets of his wrath were just annoying him further. It was an amusing situation, though. She distractedly tugged at the ropes binding her to the chair as she listened, a happy smile on her face. So it was Domhnall McEvoy and Rose Weasley who had arranged today's entertainment. Oh, Merlin, they were in so much trouble!
The smile was wiped off her face by the professor's announcement of points deduction, however. She could hear the groans of her housemates who were also within an earshot. "Fifty points? But professor, that's not fair! Just give them double the amount of detention or something..."

It wasn't everyday that a perfectly enjoyable social event was disrupted by a Billywig emergency, but that also didn't take into account Hogwarts. Or students who seemed content to ruin a gathering with pranks and general chaos. On one hand, part of Nathaniel thought it was appalling behavior, ghastly even, but on the other... the young Slytherin smirked to himself, as he watched the other students giggling and floating overhead, despite the fact he was - blissfully - still grounded, as it were.
The Billywigs had either avoided or missed Nathaniel completely.
"Mind your head," Nathaniel called out absently, as a fellow Slytherin floated close to a wall. "I feel adding concussion to this mix would be ill advised."
With a shake of the head, Nathaniel reached across the food plates from his seat at the Slytherin table, and procured a small edible pastry. He continued to watch the chaos around him, as he bit at the treat, all the while wondering if Thalia Burke's protests against the house point loss would be heard. It did seem harsh to punish an entire house, Nathaniel thought, and personal consequence - at least in this instance - did sound more appropriate.
But, Nathaniel wasn't a Professor, so what did he know?
Nathaniel took another bite.
"Hm, well, the food still tastes great despite the situation."
He finished off the pastry and began looking for something to drink, even as he continued to shake his head and sigh...

The situation no longer seemed as funny as Professor Lauren began dolling out their punishment. Either that, or the billywig venom was beginning to fade, as Rose felt a pit growing in her stomach, her smile wavering. “Fifty?!” She exclaimed out loud in shock. 50 house points was no small amount. She knew the other members of her house would be upset, and she may get the cold shoulder for a few days - up to a week max - but she worried much more about Don’s fate from his housemates. She was well aware that Don was already not that well liked within his house, at least from a select few students, and she was sure this would not help ingratiate him to the pack.
“Come on, Professor Lauren,” she started with a nervous laugh. He was usually such a kind teacher, funny and approachable even. Rose had never seen such a side to him before, and she had to admit, it was a bit scary. “You may not be laughing, but everybody else is! And obviously nobody got hurt.” She had a feeling her attempts were futile, but his anger seemed misplaced over such a small harmless prank. Perhaps if she could make him see reason, he would ease off a little.
The sight of the ropes gave her pause, and, for the first time since the whole prank began, the smile was wiped clean off her face. She had been simply making a joke, and yet now he seemed inclined to treat her as an actual criminal, intent on binding her arms together. As he continued in his tirade, threatening to take up to 100 house points from each of them, Rose began to truly realize there was no getting out of this situation. They were well and truly screwed.
She looked over to Don with wide eyes, hoping to convey both her worry as well as her apologies. If she hadn’t dragged him into this prank, they wouldn’t be in this situation. Hell, perhaps if she had stayed away during this whole confrontation, she would have had a better chance of getting both of them off scot free. The side effects of the billywig venom had apparently done her no good in the critical thinking department, and Rose was just beginning to realize just how serious this whole situation had now become.

Fifty house points. Okay, that was the most he'd ever lost in one go. Usually, it was ten at most, and even that tended to irritate his housemates. He didn't need to look around to sense the glares of those Slytherins who were close enough to overhear what had happened. He might have to answer some questions later. Maybe he should get a Sneakoscope, to warn him in case anyone tried to take revenge.
The anger displayed by Lauren signified the end of today's entertainment. Don couldn't think of anything else to say that could mitigate the damage rather than making it even worse. Every word the two of them uttered just seemed to get the man more annoyed. He couldn't believe the harmless prank had caused such a reaction. A small selection of the student body as well as the staff has had their meals disrupted. Was that so terrible that it warranted taking fifty house points? Adults really had a different way of looking at things. An overly serious, joy-killing way.
Don was almost certain that Lauren would indeed bind Rose in ropes like a criminal, just as she had jokingly suggested. The boy glanced around, searching for other adults who might interfere. He saw Burke and Laurent nearby, but neither of them seemed interested in what was happening. Luckily, it turned out to only be a threat.
His gaze moved to Rose, whose wide apologetic eyes were turned to him. Don managed a weak smile, trying to reassure her that he didn't regret anything, though it didn't stay for long. He was worried that appearing too happy could prompt a more severe punishment. That hundred house points might yet be taken. "Alright, so when do we start serving our punishment?" he asked, turning back to the Muggle Studies professor.

Sweet victory. Rafe had somehow managed to fool their plans through his understanding of wand lore to his advantage. His eyes met with both Rose and Don's piercing through them as much as he could. If only anger could be manifested in other ways, Rafe would of taken that avenue. Unfortuantly, being a professor meant that it came with certain expectations and requirements to uphold too. A leadership position some may even say.
His eyes glanced back over to Miss Burke who seemed to have something to express her sentiments about how much points he had deducted. " Unless you wish it to be a deduction of 60 house points I'd recommend you remain silent. " His response was just as cold as the facial expression he had on his face. He didn't care for what others had to say about the amount of house points he had deducted. That was Rafe. He was blunt, cold, disliked for many obvious reasons and abrupt.
His ears perked up like a dog hearing a high pitched noise to Miss Weasley's voice. " Getting stung by a Billywig may seem like harmless fun to you." He responded as a student began floating past them blurting out in laughter with the situation. It seemed the help of the other members of staff and prefects hadn't been completed as his eyes scanned the room to notice a select few students being retrieved from the air. " You should consider both of yourselves lucky that no student had a medical reaction." He responded knowing that some particular students were capable of having an allergic reaction to certain things.
" Both of you will receive a string of detentions that will be decided by your respective Head of Houses in conjunction with the other professors involved." He responded to McEvoy who had accepted his fate for his involvement in the crime but it seemed that Miss Weasley was still trying to find a way out of it. " There will be no exceptions to this. " He further added as he looked at the both of them before noticing the other students around. " Any questions?"
