“ Oh, these would be a nice addition to the room. ” She whispered as she picked up a vase of tulips from her office and decided to bring it along with her as she made her ways toward the Transfiguration classroom. It was her first lesson of the year and being excited was one of the many emotions she was feeling.
She walked into the classroom proudly and took a deep breath before preparing for her class placing a large feather on each of the student’s desk while she watched her class slowly being to flow into the classroom. It was a nice scenic change from the hustle and bustle of the Ministry of Magic and in specific , ,the Auror’s office but she couldn’t be happier with her career change.
“ Hi everyone!” She greeted in her sweet and excited vocal tone. “ To those I’ve not had the pleasure of meeting yet, my name is Professor Saint Laurent and I will be taking your Transfiguration class. Short story time, I am a Gryffindor graduate and was an Auror just before coming here. ” She smiled as she looked around at the students.
“Today we will be working on a spell that can be a useful spell to add to your arsenal as it can be used in a competitive way and a spell that can also provide you some form of assistance. ” She paused yet again as she tapped her wand onto the board as the incantation appeared in front of them.
“Duro. The Hardening spell. This spell when used correctly, would turn small objects into stone and if used correctly can turn certain things into statues. ” She said as she walked back to the desk in the middle of the room.“ Now before we even think about attempting this, who can tell me what classification of Transfiguration this is?” She asked before looking at the student in front of her as she crossed her arms.

Olivia was looking forward to learning some Transfiguration spells. Everyone was complaining how difficult the subject was - she was determined to perform better than any of her classmates. She even read almost the entire textbook during the summer and attempted a few spells, with partial success.
Although she was quickly developing an intense dislike for Gryffindors, an Auror was someone to be respected. The first-year refrained from asking why Laurent left the profession so early in order to work with kids. Instead, she decided to demonstrate the knowledge she had absorbed from A Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration.
"That would be Transformation, professor. Spells that change the shape or any quality of an object fall under that category." Hardness was a very basic quality to change, too - though probably more difficult than colour. She was eager to try out the spell and see how quickly she could get it to work.

Kyle rushed through the hallways of Hogwarts to his Transfiguration class. He had still not gotten used to the castle's large, winding halls. Finally, he reached the class, and got the nearest desk and chair. As he listened to what the Professor was talking about, he was just about to answer, but a Slytherin had quickly answered first. "Darn it," he said under his breath. Now he was just hoping, he would be able to get the spell done correctly. Currently, the Hufflepuff house wasn't doing good in points. In fact, it was the Slytherin house which seemed to be leading in points. But, Kyle was ready. The storm was just starting. OLIVIA MULCIBER (just mentioned SAINT LAURENT

The hardening spell, something he was not yet sure how that would be used. Or what it could even be used on. It could be used competitively? Dustin had to wonder if that were true and if the spell could be reversed. It wouldn't be used in duelling, at least he hoped not if the statue-like effects were not reversible. Instead of speaking up, he wrote his notes out clean and clear, writing down questions he had in case they got covered or if he would have to ask them later on. Either way was fine so long as he could have them written down.

Jack sat down and rested his head on his hand. Transfiguration was sometimes useful, sometimes boring, but always confusing. An Auror? Jack knew by now that it was some sort of wizard police. He couldn’t see why you’d want to quit that and go into teaching, but maybe it was a bit too dangerous.
A spell that turned things into stone? He swore wizards always came up with the most random spells. Why would he need to do that? Unless he was building a house maybe. Could it be used on humans? Like some kind of Medusa thing? The idea freaked him out. Magic in general weirded him out, even now.

Professor Saint Laurent… was beautiful. Romy twirled the feather placed on her desk as she snuck glances at the ex-Auror, before she remembered that she was allowed and expected to look at the new professor directly. So she smiled and listened attentively to the professor, only looking away to take notes on Duro, the hardening spell. She agreed that it fell under the category of Transformation, and nodded importantly when she heard the younger student’s accurate answer, secretly wishing that the question had been directed at her instead.

Within seconds of posing a question to the class, one student was able to provide an answer to her last question. This took Saint by surprise as she didn't expect someone to answer so quickly. " Fantastic work." She exclaimed clapping her hands softly. " Miss Mulciber is correct. This is a transformation spell in the branches of Transfiguration. One of my favourite pieces of Transformation magic if I can be a little bias." Being a Metamorphmagus, Saint was more adapt to transfiguration magic but she specialised in transformation. "10 points to Slytherin."
"Now, this spell can be a little difficult for some. " She explained before moving over toward the centre of the classroom as she drew her wand out. "Duro." She enunciated clearly as she pointed her wand over to a stack of books with the tip of her wand summoning out a small vortex of stones before turning the hard back stack of book into a neat little statue. " Perfect for the garden don't you think?" She let out with a little sweet laugh.
"The difficulty comes from the enunciation of the spell, then of course comes the size, weight and shape. Concentration is needed to perform this spell to full ability. Today, you will be practising the spell on some feathers. You can choose to work in partners however I recommend practising the spell's enunciation before attempting the spell. "
She stood there before looking back at the class with her sweet smile. "Begin." She said said as she clapped and the feathers on the tables in front of them began to float. " I'll be floating around if anyone needs me. " She added before smiling and walking back to her desk to fill out some notes.

Glad to have been praised for providing the correct answer, Olivia was now even more motivated to perform well in this class. It wouldn't do to start off with stellar theoretical knowledge and then fail the first practical task. "Duro," she spoke quietly, testing the word in her mouth. Was the enunciation of the spell truly a challenge in this case? It was just two short syllables, nowhere near as complicated as most incantations. Still, one could never know with Transfiguration - perhaps stressing the wrong sound would have calamitous effects. "Duro. Duro." She was pronouncing it exactly the same way as Professor Laurent - there wasn't that much variation one could put into such a brief word. It was time to attempt the spell.
The first-year aimed her wand at the feather placed on her table. She took a few moments to concentrate on the desired outcome - turning the object into stone. "Duro." There was some observable change in the feather; Olivia could see its shaft becoming grey and seemingly gaining a different texture. Some of the barbs were similarly altered, although most remained soft and fluffy.
She picked up the feather to examine it. Yes, it felt considerably heavier now, but the success was only partial. The untransfigured sections of it bothered her.

Feathers sounded like a perfectly acceptable thing to start trying this spell on. They were light and everything and he wondered if it would solidify each individual barb or if it would make it one solid piece. As they were released to start practicing he scooted forward in his seat eagerly and set his feather in the middle of the desk to concentrate better on it. "Duro." Nothing happened this time so he ran the word in his head before trying again. "Duro!"
