TIME: Early February
It had been three months and much had happened for the Champions between the first and second tasks. They all focused on their classes during that time to become better witches and wizards, as well as learn new things they might need for the upcoming tasks. Some had guesses as to what they would do, others did find a hint and knew a little bit about the next task. Though no one really was prepared for what would happen.
Also in that time, the school hosted the Yule Ball at Christmas time, which meant that very few students went home for the holidays. It was a nice reprieve after their studies and before the new term would commence. All the fourth years and higher attended, as well as all of the students visiting Firenze Academy for the year. It was strange for everyone to see all their classmates who they saw every day in such nice formalwear, but it was also nice as well.
After the new year, everyone buckled down on their studies once more. The weather was much nicer than it was for northern schools, but it was still a little chilly at times and not as much fun to go outside. It was a good time to stay in and focus on school.
Once February hit, the Champions had prepared as much as they could for the unknown task ahead. The Quidditch Stadium had been closed to everyone for a few days with various crates being hauled in. The top was also enchanted so if any students decided to try and fly overhead to see what they were doing, they would only see what they expected to see. This could range from what they saw last time they were in the stadium to what they predicted was going on in there. Any students who tried to peak this way just created conflicting rumours, so those with a good mind knew not to believe any of them.
The Champions Tent was back outside the Quidditch Stadium and the Champions were ushered there after breakfast at 9AM. It was a Sunday so there were no classes, and everyone would be attending.
The Champions were there for about an hour as the staff and students made their way to their seats in the Stadium. They heard them chattering as they walked by the tent.
At about 10AM, Tamara Page walked into the tent. "Good morning, Champions! It's a nice day for the Second Task," she stated. It was daytime, which would be good for the Champions. And it wasn't raining or snowing. It was about 14c, so they wouldn't need any winter cloaks anymore, unlike the last couple of months.
"Today all you need to do is go from one side of the Quidditch Stadium to the other and retrieve a large sapphire. Sounds simple, doesn't it?" She smiled. "There will of course be obstacles. I hope you brought your key and flag and wand with you. That is all you'll be permitted to have in the Stadium with you. No summoning other objects either." That would be too easy, to bring other objects with them. They could probably fly past all the obstacles and what would be the point of the task? They wouldn't show any skills by doing that.
"There will be cauldrons with ingredients behind you. If you want to spend a bit of time, you can brew and drink a potion that will make your time easier in the task. However, know that it does take a bit of time to brew it and you can't start until your start time." The brewing time wasn't before they started, so if they had to wait for a bit, they would have to wait to brew and go forward.
"Based on your performance in the first task, you will get a bit of a head start. Everyone follow me and choose a place to start, though. Once it's time to go, someone will tell you." It might not be Tam, if some of the start times were really close together. They had other Ministry officials there too.
((The goal is to get to the end. Make sure to say the direction you're going: Left, right, or forward. While you do want to go forward, going forward the entire time may not be possible.
IMPORTANT! There are spots from 1-12 across the stadium. Far left being #1, far right being #12. Make sure to say in your first post what position you're starting in. You can't start in the same spot as someone else.
If you brew the potion, you will do so in 3 posts: 1) preparing the ingredients 2) brew the potion 3) finish & consume the potion. If you drink the potion, you will have a 30% chance of a square being nothing instead of an obstacle.
Everyone will have 10 HP to start. If you get down to 0 HP, you faint and do not finish the task.
If you are on a square without an obstacle, you can use a healing spell to gain 1 HP.
Every post you go forward, you'll be in a square of 2m x 2m (about 6.5 ft x 6.5 ft). You cannot see what it is until you get there. Ex. You: Post going left, right, or forward Me: Post saying what obstacle it is You: Can either try to fight it or go through it and automatically take the damage and say your next direction
If you use the correct spell to fight the obstacle, you will have a 70% chance of success.))
((Potion:
3 mistletoe berries (crushed) 1 salamander eye (whole) 2 ounces of lime juice 1 ounce of coconut milk 4 peppermint leaves (sliced)
Bring the cauldron to a boil. Add the crushed mistletoe berries. Stir clockwise for 1 minute. Add 1 ounce of lime juice. Stir clockwise for 1 minute. Add 1 salamander eye. Let it simmer for 2 minutes. Stir counter-clockwise for 1 minute. Add 1 ounce of lime juice. Add 1 ounce of coconut. Still clockwise for 1 minute. Add 4 peppermint leaves. Stir clockwise for 1 minute. Let simmer for 1 minute. ))

Ares took a spot to the left of Silvia, hoping to get a little chummy with her. He liked her company, even if she enjoyed pushing him away.
He got started on the potion, since he had a bit of a head start and had such bad luck the first task. He started crushing and slicing the ingredients.
((#5. Also SILVIA ODETTE STIRLING, yes, theres 12 cauldrons behind each of the starting spots.))

((ALL - for the potion part, you don't have to wait for me to confirm anything. Just no double posting so wait until at least 1 person has replied after you to post again.))

Silvia was arranging all the ingredients quickly. She was done crushing the mistletoe berries and moving on to the peppermint leaves when she noticed Ares arrive and select a starting spot right next to her. Hopefuly, he wouldn't try to distract her, as the water in her cauldron was already boiling and she could not afford to mess up the potion.

Mathieu had been as curious as almost everyone else about what was taking place in the Quidditch stadium. No one knew anything as there were conflicting reports by various students who had tried to peek. Mathieu had not been one of them. He watched as two of the Champtions began brewing a potion.

She went through the brewing steps as efficiently as she could. Mistletoe. Stirring. Lime juice. Stirring. Salamander eye... The pause of two minutes went by excruciatingly slow; Silvia could feel her hard-earned lead melting away as she fidgeted impatiently, waiting for the time to pass. Once it finally did, she resumed. Stirring. So much stirring at every step, and for so long... Lime juice. Coconut. Stirring. Peppermint. Stirring. Another pause, only one minute this time. Once all that was done, she poured some of the potion into a cup. It was still boiling hot but she ignored the burning and the unpleasant taste as she gulped it down.

Now that the potion ingredients were ready, Ares could get started. The boiled the water then added the mistletoe berries. Then he stirred, added lime juiced, stirred some more, added the eye. He let it simmer and got distracted watching Silvia for a bit. But then he was back to it and stirred and added lime juice and then the milk. He stirred, added the leaves, stirred and then waited.

Her mouth felt seared after the cupful of potion. She hoped it was worth the fifteen or so minutes she spent preparing it. Silvia hadn't even stopped to wonder what effects it might have; she simply reasoned that if the tournament organizers included it, then it must be useful.
She looked at Ares' cauldron. He wsn't far behind in the preparation. Soon, other champions would be joining them and trying to catch up. Those who skipped brewing might pull ahead... she had to keep moving. Taking out her wand and bracing herself, she went forth to the starting spot and stepped forward.

Finally Tobias could start. His old schoolmate and the Firenze boy were already ahead with their potions. In fact, Silvia had finished hers. He turned to work on the potion by first getting his ingredients together and preparing them.

One of the champions from Dahshur seemed to have finished her potion. He wondered what it did exactly for it to make the task easier as the Tamara Page had said. Like what effect did it have? He was very curious so he kept his eyes on Silvia for the time being but it did not seem immediately noticeable. At least not from where he was sitting among the audience.

The shiny blue insects were not a welcome sight. Silvia knew the effect their stings had, and did not fancy experiencing it. Not when she needed to be focused and alert. But how did one fight them? She couldn't remember ever learning about that. However, they were a flying creature that relied heavily on speed. Perhaps the same spell that worked with Pixies would be effective against Billywigs? They were about the same size, so that made sense. She raised her wand slowly, so as not to provoke the insects... Although such precaution might prove useless if her spell failed. "Immobulus."

Tobias didn't have the luxury of paying attention to what his fellow champions were doing as he brought his water to a boil. He began brewing his potion, hoping the lost time would be worth it. At least it wasn't like he was the last person to make the potion. In fact, he had been among the first after Silvia and Ares.
