Sydney Carter, seventh year student at Firenze Academy of Magic and school champion for the Triwizard Tournament, has not been seen since the second task. A ministry official who wished to remain nameless is quoted as saying, "We have no evidence to suggest foul play, our security is top notch. We cannot rule it out, however. We're doing everything we can to find her again, and we hope to find her soon." The word "unharmed" was not included in that official statement, but one can only assume that the Aurors will do their best to bring her back in one piece. No word yet on just how the investigation will be organized, and there was no comment on potential suspects. While the ministry has not made any allegations, suspicions of Death Eater involvement in the incident run rampant. The Italian champion was in the lead when the second task began, and no scores from the task were tallied when the third champion never returned.
Mr. Shiloh Carter, the missing champion's twin, had the following statement when reporters approached him: "It was that [expletive deleted] [expletive deleted] Josh! I'll beat his face!" He then stormed off, and could not be contacted further, as the visiting students returned to their respective schools for their own safety. A bit of research revealed that "Josh" is probably one Joshua O'Neill, the missing champion's companion at the Yule Ball. He was unavailable for comment, but no doubt the school will make a full inquiry to all of Mr. O'Neill's affiliations and his known location at the time of the kidnapping. And if he proves to be innocent, perhaps protective custody if the anger from the other Carter is followed through to action.
The Triwizard Tournament was cut short for the first time since its reintroduction in the Era of Harry Potter. Champions have died in the past, of course. Cedric Diggory was famously found dead when the tournament was first reintroduced. Now the continuation of the tournament itself is in question. Firenze released a statement to Minister De Claire only hours after the disappearance was reported, announcing their outrage and demanding that their missing student be found and returned home safely.
Was there Death Eater involvement? Is this only the first incident of many to come? Any updates on this case will be reported here first. We all hope that Sydney is found...
