minister retires
After three months in office, Grey Moore has stepped down as the Minister for Magic due to personal reasons.
The Ministry has released a statement that an election for a new Minister for Magic will occur in the coming weeks. Grey Moore will stay on as Minister until that time, though it is rumoured that the Senior Undersecretary is taking on more than the job entails until that time.
So far, there are three main candidates Nevan Gallagher, an Auror who has been consistent and brilliant over many years; Christian Paxton, a wealthy businessman who has a friendly and charismatic personality - a definite favourite among the people; Stuart Thawley, current Head of the Department of International Magical Co-operation, who was previously an Auror for ten years prior to switching to his current department.
Only time will tell who will be chosen to lead our Ministry into tomorrow and we wish all of the candidates the best of luck.
ministry fundraiser
Last week, on October 31st, the Ministry held a fundraiser to raise money for the shops that were still trying to rebuild from the fiasco at the Festival in May.
Invitations were sent out to all of the employees at the Ministry and St. Mungo's, though posters were also put up around Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, inviting anyone to attend.
The tickets were only 5 Galleons, a modest price for a fundraiser, but there were also raffles held later in the evening. The prizes were donated from various shops and organizations and even 2 tickets to the next Quidditch World Cup (to be held in 2003) were donated by the Ministry. Since all of the prizes were donated, all of the proceeds from the raffles were able to go toward the shops that the fundraiser was for.
Overall, the fundraiser raised over 109 Galleons, which was split between the shops that still needed to be rebuilt. Since the Daily Prophet decided to move to Hogsmeade indefinitely, we opted out of the split.
