NEW MINISTER FOR MAGIC
After Thawley was untimely assassinated, the Ministry of Magic soon had candidates campaigning to be the new Minister for Magic. After a few days for respect to Thawley, the Ministry needed a new Minister as soon as possible.
The campaigning was allowed to happen for a shorter time span so the new Minister would be able to get into office more quickly.
The four candidates were all highly respected individuals already employed within the Ministry of Magic: Theodore Whitlock II, Luciano Moretti, Emily Burke and Willard Burke.
All of the candidates put through very exciting campaigns, all vowing different platforms and changes they would make to the Ministry if elected.
One thing that was common throughout all of their campaigns was making the National Defense Squad no longer a draft. Three of the candidates wanted to dissolve it entirely. Many also wanted to end the war with Italy, with only one candidate stating they wanted an investigation and meeting with the Italian Minister first.
The voting was a little scattered, as Theodore Whitlock II and Emily Burke had very similar platforms. But in the end, Emily Burke was elected Minister for Magic for a 4 year term (unless something happens or she decides to call an election earlier than 2010).

TALKS OF PEACE
A month before the election or the candidacy was announced, Emily Burke was meeting with the Italian Minister for talks of peace. At the time, she had no say in the matter, but planned on bringing her findings and what was discussed to Minister Thawley, hoping that it would convince him to sit down with the Italian Minister himself.
Now that she has been declared as Minister and the excitement of being sworn in is over, she has contacted the Italian Minister to resume peace talks. At the moment, Burke is confident that they can officially negotiate a peace treaty within the next couple of weeks. Already, both parties have decreased war efforts together, but remain vigilant in case of a surprise attack.
