NERO PARDONED
After a hearing at the Ministry yesterday morning, Giovanna Nero was pardoned of all suspicions and charges.
This comes as a shock to many of us, who all believed her to be guilty of multiple counts of homocide, arson and threats to the crown.
In the trial, Giovanna admitted to being in Diagon Alley the day of the attacks in 2001. She had just arrived from her trip around the globe, as is custom for many after they graduate Hogwarts, which was why she didn't seem as shocked as the rest.
"In all honesty, I was a little under the influence," she admitted. Apparently she had too good of a time travelling the world.
"I wanted to see what it was all about, this festival. I was delighted to hear of its existence when I got back, but felt confused and disoriented at being back anyway, nevermind all the explosions."
Next, were the accusations of attacking Hogwarts. Many had seen her there. Many had even duelled her, including Professor Eliza Cunningham.
Cunningham had not been able to attend the trial, so she could not testify for Giovanna's presence at the attack on Hogwarts in 2003.
Giovanna stated that that wasn't her - she had been kidnapped in the spring of 2003 and had been held captive ever since, only escaping some time in January.
"I don't know who was trying to use my face," she stated.
When asked why she didn't come forward until now, over seven months later after she was a free woman, she stated that she was afraid to step forward. She heard of all the accusations that were against her and was afraid to come forward, otherwise she might be put in Azkaban for things she never did.
When questioned about her track record of being in the Death Eaters in 1996-1998, she stated that that was well behind her. She even turned over a new leaf by returning to Hogwarts the final year. She learned the error of her ways at the Battle of Hogwarts in 1998 and was very remorseful, as the Ministry should remember from her statements in 1998 before she was re-admitted to Hogwarts.
When questioned on how she escaped, she said that she managed to perform wandless magic after conserving her strength for weeks, leading up to her plan. She untied her ropes with a charm and grabbed a wand that one of the captors left on a bench in the room. She admits to killing him when he re-entered the room.
Post-trial, the Ministry stated that Giovanna would not be charged for this act, as it was self-defense.
The other captor was waiting outside. Giovanna stated that she stunned him and then made her way outside. She was in rags, completely dirty and unrecognizable. When she emerged, she found that she was in Canada in some remote location. It took days before she found a town and she was near death. She found a muggle diner and they took pity on her and fed her and brought her to the muggle police.
It took another few weeks before Giovanna was able to get back to Britain.
The muggles were questioned and her story checked out.
Giovanna willingly gave up her memories of being in captivity and her heroing escape from her captors willingly. The Ministry thanked her for her compliance. The memories were reviewed by the Wizengamot and determined legitimate.
Giovanna Nero was sentenced to six months of therapy, though suggested that it would take more to get over two and a half years of captivity.
She left with her parents and returned to her home in London.
