DODECAWIZARD IN AUSTRALIA
If you've been counting the years, you would have realized that this year is the year of the Dodecawizard Tournament for many students throughout the world.
The Dodecawizard Tournament replaced the Triwizard Tournament in 1999. After the death of a Champion in the Triwizard of 1994, it was determined it was related to Death Eater activity and not the nature of the tournament itself so it was safe to continue. However, the officials found that the unprecedented two Champions from one school proved to be more interesting so they kept that tradition and also invited more schools: six schools, two Champions from each, for a total of twelve Champions. Throughout the years it has proved to be quite interesting for everyone who watches and participates and no fatalities have occurred since.
This year, it is being hosted by Augustine.
As I'm sure you're aware if you're old enough to read this article, five years ago, Britain was in the middle of war with Italy, which proved to be difficult for both to be at the Dodecawizard Tournament. So Firenze Academy was not invited then and Augustine replaced them. However, Firenze Academy is back on board and since Augustine is hosting, they of course couldn't be uninvited. Unfortunately Xanadu (the wizarding school in China which specializes in martial arts and wandless magic) was not invited this year. We will miss them greatly as they have always produced fine Champions. Perhaps another year, Xanadu.
The line up is Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, Firenze, Salem and Augustine.
Last night, the Goblet of Fire announced the Champions from each school. From Hogwarts will be Jacob Callaghan (Gryffindor) and Samantha Snow (Hufflepuff). Beauxbatons are Acacia Dubois and Raina Bellanger. From Durmstrang are Marius Stormgard and Willem Tuinstra. Firenze's Champions are Ailish Valentini (Occamy) and Eva Sorrento. Representing Salem is Courtney Wilkins, who is the cousin of the winner of the 1999 Dodecawizard Tournament, and Jocelynn Avril. Augustine's Champions are Harper Johnson and Kegan Miller.
Not much is known about the other Champions but let's hope Durmstrang won't give us another bad egg. Last Tournament, one of them removed one of the Hogwarts Champion's legs and the Tournament before that, one of them set fire to another Champion's items in a task. So far our sources say they seem like upstanding students, though.
We'll be looking and watching the progress of the Dodecawizard Tournament and especially cheering on the Hogwarts Champions as they complete the Tasks.
