NEW MINISTER FOR MAGIC
This election was a bit of a whirlwind. Normally, we are used to only about three candidates to choose from, but this time there were five: Clara Dyer - the Minister already, Hermione Granger-Weasley - the head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, Percy Weasley - the Senior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, Lucius Malfoy - the head of the Department for International Magical Cooperation, and Nigel Wright - the head of the Department of Magical Transportation.
All had various experience within the Ministry, but all had different things they wanted to do if elected. However, only one was.
Lucius Malfoy won with 32% of the popular vote (which is pretty good considering it was split five ways). We're told that Clara Dyer and Percy Weasley were close with 24%, Hermione Graner-Weasley trailed a little bit with 18%, and Nigel Wright unfortunately only managed to get 2% of the votes.
But now what? What do we expect to change and what is going to stay the same?
In a statement, new Minister Malfoy has revealed that he won't be taking up any other main titles at the moment. He will think for a bit on who will replace him as the head of the Department he used to run. Otherwise, he won't be taking up Supreme Mugwump or Chief Warlock.
Many Ministers before him would just take those positions regardless of who had them at the time. Malfoy has assured the public that he wishes to focus on his duties as Minister for Magic and knows that those who already have those positions are very capable. So if you're wondering where Dyer will go, she still has a place as Supreme Mugwump, as does Theodore Whitlock II (another failed campaign for Minister for Magic in the past) as Chief Warlock.
But what will change? Surprisingly to us all who know some of Malfoy's past deeds - allegedly or otherwise - he ran on a fairly neutral platform. It's hard to really gage which direction he will take our country. Neutrality and focus on doing things properly may be exactly what we need, however, going forward, and we hope that Malfoy can keep to the version of himself in his campaign. We like this Malfoy. We trust this Malfoy. We need this modern Malfoy right now.
