“… and so this, is Ravenclaw Tower, your second home for the next seven years. Boys’ dormitory is upstairs and to your left; girls, the same on your right. You'll find that your belongings have already been brought up.” Ken paused in the center of the common room, wondering if he had left anything out in the short tour he led for newly sorted students. Nope, he did mention everything important on the way up to the tower. “Once again, welcome to Ravenclaw. Have a good night’s rest and be prepared for classes tomorrow.”
He waited a moment for the group to disperse, then dragged his feet over to a stuffed armchair where he leaned back with his tired eyes closed. Ken listened to the familiar sound of wind whistling around the windows of the tall tower and tried to organise his thoughts. The rush of melancholy he experienced at the sorting ceremony about it being his final year had calmed somewhat, to be replaced by stress… the causes of which he could not fully figure out at the moment.
But it wouldn’t do to look as stressed as he truly did in front of younger students. Ken reopened his eyes with a jolt and surveyed the wide room where some of his housemates still were. Becoming Head Boy was surely one cause of his tension. While he himself was confident that he could do well in any position assigned to him - whether he liked it or not - he knew that not everyone had the same confidence in him.
And while “I don’t care” was indeed his catchphrase, he couldn’t say he didn’t care if the majority of students doubted him. Ken continued to glance around the room, deep in thought.

"Good evening Mr.Hamada." Levi greeted in-between towering over the first years. It was always interesting to see the new batch of first years walk into the Ravenclaw Common Room. Some were huffing and puffing. The stairs leading up to the common room was not a joking matter. Some found it rather difficult to hike up the mountain and others saw it as an exercise routine. Levi considering the later.
Levi had shared one or two classes before with Ken and although they weren't exactly friends, he knew he could always rely on him for information about certain happenings around school. To add to this, he wasn't only just a prefect but also the Head Boy. Not an easy feat considering Ken was about to enter his final schooling year.
" Do you recall your first time walking into this very same common room?" The moment seemed only right to reminisce about Levi's first encounter with the Ravenclaw Common Room with his senior dorm buddies towering over him just as he was with the first years.
"Congratulations on Head Boy. Ravenclaw must be so proud of you. "
Ken raised his head when he heard a younger student greeting him - though Levi was certainly not as young as the small and confused ones currently looking around the common room in awe. As much as he felt responsible for the new students, he could not help but feel relieved to see a familiar face. “Hi, Levi. Just Ken’s fine. Take a seat,” he said, gesturing at the empty armchair beside him.
“I do remember, actually. I kind of figured that I would be sorted into Ravenclaw, so I tried to learn everything I could about this very common room before I came to Hogwarts. It was nothing like what I imagined, but I liked it. What about you?” Talking about Ravenclaw was something he truly enjoyed, which surprised some people who thought he only liked discussing realistic matters.
“Ah, thank you. My sister still thinks it’s a big prank,” the seventh year said drily. He took one glance at the new badge pinned on his robes before asking, “Wanna be Head Boy someday yourself?”

" Well, let's face it. " He shrugged his shoulders while taking an empty seat. " You'll be Mr.Hamada one day. " He smiled as he settled himself into the soft chair. The first years still looking around in awe as they slowly made their way around the common room still placed a smile on his face. There must be something so rewarding about showing first years around. A sort of responsibility.
" Like a true Ravenclaw." He responded with a smile on his face. " My parents were Ravenclaw which is kinda odd because their parents were Slytherin. " Truth be told, Levi's grandparents were horrible people. May they rest in peace but Levi could only ever remember memories of his grandparents talking about money and success. " I didn't do reading before hand as I wanted my first time in any common room to be as magical as what the first years are experiencing here. "
"Me?" He looked down as the head boy badge Ken was wearing and over to a mirror to imagine what it would look like to wear such a somewhat, heavy badge. " I'd like to be a prefect one day maybe. " It was a step toward the right direction. The thought of helping the school out and taking on that extra responsibility has always been something he was interested in.
Ken chuckled when Levi commented that trying to learn all about this common room before even arriving at school was like a true Ravenclaw. He had never thought about it that way before, but he was indeed often curious as a young boy - perhaps even more academically motivated than he was now. “Is it odd? I didn’t know that. No one in my family attended Hogwarts before my sister and me.” He wondered what the statistics for parents and children being sorted into different houses were.
He noticed the younger Ravenclaw look at his badge, then at a mirror in the room. Ken couldn’t remember if he actively wanted to become a Prefect, if he had dreamed of wearing a badge and standing out amid the student body. He probably did to some extent, even if he refused to admit it now. “I think you’ll be a good one,” he told Levi honestly.

Hearing what Ken had to say about his family line opened up pandora's box in Levi's curious mind. " Oh so you're like a first generation Hogwarts student kinda thing? " He asked trying to grasp the concept. " If I may ask... " He creeped a little closer considering he didn't know if Ken would actually appreciate being asked about his family. " Where did your parents or family for that matter, attend their schooling if not Hogwarts? " It was a fair question wasn't it?
"Levi Hilfiger, prefect? " He chuckled slightly to hide the fact that he didn't want to show he wanted it when deep down, he was very interested in the role. " Who knows, maybe one day right? I'm sure there's a lot more responsibility then just wearing a badge am I right? " He chuckled again. " So, what exactly is the difference in responsibilities between a prefect and a head boy then? "
He didn’t mind being asked about his family’s schooling background. In fact, he knew surprisingly little about the school that generations before him attended to even say much in reply. “Yeah, they all went to Xanadu, in Asia. Apparently they learn a lot of wandless magic and martial arts there, have you heard of it?” Noticing that Levi had crept a little closer, he adjusted his position so that they weren’t… so close. No offence, though!
”Prefect Hilfiger has a good ring to it,” he added. This was his own awkward way of cheering on his younger housemate… y’know, aim high, work hard, achieve your dreams or whatever. “I guess the main difference is that the Heads assign Prefects their duties, like when each person would need to patrol hallways. Oh, and we each have a dorm to ourselves.” He had completely forgotten about the new dorm, as he had not seen it yet.

Levi nodded his head slightly before dropping eye contact to lie through his teeth. “Kind of…..” He responded as he began to adjust his shoulders and back to try and hide the lie he was saying. Truth be told, he didn’t know much about the school and only knew the name of the school. “ Nah I’ll be honest. I only know the name of it. “ Telling a lie was never his forte. If anything, he managed to lie in general.
“ Wandless magic seems quite difficult. “ The simple thought was a little intimidating. Levi was good with his magic but he was only able to do simple spells non-verbally. He could only imagine what sort of offensive magic they could do at the school if they were able to do wandless magic. To add to that, the thought of doing it non-verbally was pretty interesting.
“ Prefect Hilfiger does sound nice… “ He said thinking about what he would look like wearing the fashionable Prefect badge. “ Haha! What a thought, maybe one day. If the Professors trust me enough. “ He thought about what it would be like to be a prefect. “ As Headboy, do you get to visit other schools? “ Although he tried to play it down, Levi was quite interested in the role and eventually was going to ask Ken for how he could improve his image.

“That’s okay,” he chuckled when Levi admitted that he only knew the name of the foreign school. Ken also knew very little about other wizarding schools around the world, which was why he was kind of resentful that Hogwarts had not been invited to participate in the Dodecawizard Tournament at Firenze Academy this term. Only kind of resentful, because he stopped caring so much about the tournament after reading a bit about it.
The black-haired boy nodded in agreement to Levi’s comment. “It does. Unfortunately wandless magic is not taught here at Hogwarts, but apparently there are books on the subject in the Restricted Section of the library.” It was an area of the library that he frequented, and it proved to be useful for extra study material. In case the younger Ravenclaw was interested.
Getting to visit other schools? Now that was an unexpected enquiry. “Oh, no. It’s not really a diplomatic position. But that would be cool - you could suggest it to the Headmistress if, you know.” Ken decided to put a pause on teasing Levi about his potential to become a Prefect, not wanting to pressure him so much.

An eyebrow clocked up upon hearing how Ken spoke about the restricted section. " You mean the Head boy of the school has been to the restricted section before?" Levi was rather impressed. He had always perceived the head boy to be some sort of angel. Perhaps it was a type of bias or like the god complex of some sort. Perhaps this was also the reason why he wasn't made prefect. " Hmm so what else did you read in the restricted section?" Levi's curiosity was in the high levels of the curiosity radar.
" So does that also mean, you can do wandless magic? What about non-verbal magic? " He was about to open up a book of questions in his mind when he decided to take a deep breath. " Sorry, these kind of things really interest me if you haven't noticed. " He giggled a bit before taking a sip of some hot coco. " Do you want some?" He asked Ken with a smile on his face.

He nodded, nonchalant about Levi’s surprised reaction. “It’s not restricted because it’s bad, it just has some books that are rare or advanced. You should check it out sometime too.” Especially if he was interested in the text about wandless magic. Ken would hardly call himself or any other student a misbehaver for visiting the Restricted Section of the library. “I mostly pick up reference books about transfiguration gone wrong. Some of the explanations and illustrations are… pretty gruesome.”
“I can’t do wandless magic, actually. Just skimmed through some chapters on it, that’s all. I can perform some non-verbal magic, but I’d like to get better at it,” the Ravenclaw confessed. He had a long list of magical skills that he wanted to acquire, and planned on working through the list one step at a time. Wandless magic, supposedly very difficult if self-taught, was way below everything else he wanted to achieve first. “It’s great that advanced magic interests you. Have you tried casting spells non-verbally yet?” he asked, not trying to be friendly but out of genuine curiosity. He was aware that most wizards began at NEWT level, but if Levi was interested he could have attempted it already.
Where did that hot coco come from?! “Oh, sure, thanks… Would you like some madeleines? My sister made a batch for the train ride,” Ken offered in return as he reached into the schoolbag beside him and retrieved a lunch box containing leftover baked goods.

Seeing how Ken viewed the restricted section gave him an opportunity to really think about how he could go about entering the area. It was often rumoured to be an area where only Professors and those with authorisation could go considering the types of textbooks they had in there. One could only assume that is. " So for educational purposes, we could go in? How do we go about it? " Wandless magic was very interesting to him along with a few other areas of magic.
" Do they teach non-verbal magic here? I can't recall if they do of only if you're in your senior years. " It would be an interesting topic to learn about. One could only imagine how powerful they would be if they were able to do both non-verbal and wandless magic. " Non-verbal? I've not tried. " He replied quickly shaking his head at the same time. " I've not tried because I've always been told that it could be disastrous if done incorrectly. " He had heard of stories of people attempting magic beyond their skill level and failing horribly.
" Madelelines and hot coco sounds like a combo I'd be happy to support." He said with a smile on his face. " They look fantastic. " He said as he reached in and took a bite. " Oh yummy!" He said as he handed over a cup of hot coco. " So what do you plan on doing after Hogwarts if you don't mind me asking? " He was sure he's been asked that multiple times over the year.

"Yes. For now, you need a signed note from one of the teachers. But the requirement eases gradually," he trailed off, unable to remember at which point he no longer needed a permission slip to access the section of the library. He hoped to reassure Levi that he would not have to wait long until he would be allowed to go through all the books without a teacher breathing down his neck each time.
"We do learn non-verbal magic at NEWT level," Ken confirmed, nodding in understanding when his younger housemate expressed concern about trying the advanced version of spellcasting. He wondered if an anecdote of his mildly traumatizing experience would help. "I guess I should be glad that in my case, failed attempts at non-verbal spellcasting was not disastrous. They just resulted in nothing happening. For some of the more difficult spells, I had to stare at nothing happening for weeks and weeks until they worked non-verbally."
With that aside... Ken was happy to take a bite of the leftover madeleine with the hot coco supplied by Levi. It felt like they had been sitting in this corner of the common room chatting for months, he could not believe that it was still the first night back at school. "Uh, I'm not sure, really. I just have it narrowed down to something in government, or in education. And I want to continue studying magic, or even discover something new about it." Which was the vaguest post-graduation plan a seventh year could possibly have. He had always been deeply interested in many subjects while also, somehow, not being passionate enough in anything. The thought unnerved him, though the long chat and hot coco he had been having filled him with a warmth that seemed to comfort him that everything would turn out well eventually. "You still have some time to go, but do you have an idea on what you want to do after Hogwarts?"
