Julian Mulciber
Birthday: November 1st
Blood Status: Pureblood
Location of Residence: Alnwick, United Kingdom
School: Hogwarts (previously Beauxbaton)
House: Slytherin
Appearance:
With dark eyebrows and hair that often falls across his sharp features, Julian is exceptionally tall for his age, and holds himself with an air of aristocracy. Quite lean but fit, with pale skin, a long, straight nose and stormy eyes, one could describe him as beautiful, if not for his unnaturally cold, piercing gaze.
Three Characteristics You Think You Are: Resolute, adaptable, protective
Three Characteristics Others Think You Are: Reserved, slightly hostile, educated
Three Random Facts:
Julian is a short-tempered individual that attempts to appear cool and calculating despite the frustration and anger inside. He holds a lot of resentment and guilt over the premature death of his mother - which came after a long, futile battle with her health. He blames the ineptitude of many Healers for their failure to save her, as well as his father for being largely absent throughout her decline - instead being too caught up with his newfound Mortenero dealings. For this reason, Julian chose the Healing elective when transferred to Hogwarts, determined to one-day acquire the knowledge that could have helped her.
He is an avid reader, having been raised in an intellectual household. Most of the books provided were tomes written by Pureblood authors, however he also dabbled in classic literature as a high-born heir is required to be well-read and cultured across many subjects.
He speaks French fluently, but prefers the raw quality of English.
Aspirations:
In the short-term, Julian aspires to melt into the status-quo at Hogwarts and find his bearings before creating any waves. He too, needs to acquire loyalties among other students. He hopes to fly much under-the-radar due to his families conflicted history within the Magical community: his grand-uncle was a named Death Eater and close follower of Lord Voldemort, and as such, the Mulciber name is tainted by association. Despite any potential public fallback, this association was a point of pride for his father who strongly believed in the teachings and practices of Lord Voldemort. Angered by the failings of the Death Eaters years prior, Marcus Mulciber joined Mortenero and became obsessed with their extremism.
In the long term, Julian see's no end to the storm, so it is just a question of whether or not he will be able to weather it or be washed away. He is angry - all the time - without the kindness and gentleness of his mother, and therefore solely relies on his controlling, distant father for any familial support or guidance. Unfortunately, this means Julian is falling further and further into extreme ideologies of blood purity and the superiority of his ilk. This would mean that he has aspirations to join the fight against the rising normalcy of inter-blood mingling and bloodline tainting.
Favourite Class: A tie between Astronomy (quiet and dark) and Wizarding Literature (reminds him of his mother)
Least Favourite Class: Charms (paired up too often)
Favourite Wizarding Food or Drink: Yorkshire pudding
Thoughts on Blood Purism: Julian is the sole male heir of the Mulciber family and has been submitted to zealotic ideologies about the superiority of Pureblood his entire life, and has thus internalised this viewpoint. Half-bloods are testament to traitorous coupling, and don't even get him started on Mudbloods.
Thoughts on the Government: Impartial at the current time. His family has long been in France and thus have not been exposed to the current Ministry for long.
Family:
____ Mulciber (1965) - Paternal Grandfather (Pureblood extremist, but not an active Death Eater) - 59
A pureblood extremist who was unable to achieve the Dark Mark, nor participate as an active member amongst the Death Eaters during Lord Voldemort's return to power. Despite his brother achieving this glory, Julian's grandfather was not held in the same regard or trust as his older brother in Lord Voldemort's books. This is a sore point to press with him, and he has always spat regret at the fact that he was too late, or too unworthy, to join ranks. Despite this, he still managed to be indoctrinated mentally, and immediately forced his ideologies down upon his heir, Marcus.
He was the benefactor of his elder brothers wealth and titles, more than any one family would ever need, provided he produced heirs to keep the family name, and that they remained pure of blood.
____ Mulciber (1965) - Paternal Grandmother - 59
Julian's grandmother is as strict and cold as his grandfather - though more enticed by the Dark Arts and, in fact, an active practitioner. Often heard (much to the chagrin of Julian's father) spouting the necessity to push the boundaries of magic further, and her lament over the fact that dark magic might have saved her daughter-in-law if only she had been permitted to help.
Marcus Mulciber (1987) - Father (Mortenero) - 37
Marcus was whisked away to live in France at the tender age of 10 following the fall of Lord Voldemort and his Uncle's naming and shaming as a Death Eater. The move was generally meant as an escape from the watchful eye of the Ministry as they came down hard upon those with any ties to the losing side. To be spared the ridicule and scorn, Marcus' parents instead home-schooled their only son, ensuring his well-rounded education included Dark Arts theory and practice, as well as a skewed re-teaching of history that generally favoured the Death Eaters as unsung heroes.
It was in France that Marcus met Adalene, and the two became inseparable: he, infatuated and pacified by her presence and she: in wonderment of his ideals and enraptured by his attention. Marcus regularly schooled her in all the Dark Arts magic he knew, and she absorbed it like sponge. Following the birth of Julian in 2010, and his younger sister in 2016, Adalene fell ill and was unable to recover, despite being seen by the best Mediwizards and Healers that money could possibly buy (Pureblood only, of course). She finally succumbed to her illness in 2023.
Once the stoic, unyielding head of the Mulciber household, the death of his wife unravelled Marcus to the point of instability and he somehow got it in his head that they needed to return to their families' home in order to restore some kind of equilibrium to his life. Unable to conjure an inkling of warmth for his children, Marcus largely fails to acknowledge their presence at all these days - far too preoccupied elsewhere.
Adalene Mulciber (1988) - Mother (deceased)
Some, if not all, of Julian's happiest memories are of his mother - and he keeps them very close to the chest. To show emotion of any kind in his family was seen as a weakness and therefore punishable. But his mother was gentle, and she was protective of her children until her end. Almost ethereal in her beauty, Adalene was simultaneously the glue that held the Mulciber family together, and the caveat for its eventual explosion. Her death rocked the entire family to its core, and they are still experiencing the fallout.
____ Mulciber (2016) - Younger Sister
Julian's younger sister has been almost single-handedly raised by her older brother the last few years due to their mother growing increasingly weak and their fathers' failings after. A spitting image of their mother, Julian finds himself extremely protective over her, and would do just about anything to ensure she never feels neglected or alone in the world.
Roleplay Example:
"You are a Mulciber, do you know what that means, Jules?"
Julian felt her hair fall across his cheek as she leaned down to kiss his forehead - whispers against his skin. He was held against her, a book open before him that she was reading. It was poetry - Paradise Lost. He remembered this moment - this wasn't a dream, but a memory.
The young Julian shook his head vigorously, eyes scouring the page ahead of him in the candlelight as he tried to decipher the answer before she could provide it - he wanted to appear intelligent for her, after all.
"It means you are descended from angels, my love." She continued gently, her lips now against his hair. Julian's eyes widened at the statement, for surely he had misheard? It was way past his bedtime, so perhaps his hearing had become fuzzy - he was fighting off his tiredness, but it was a losing battle. His father had long since turned in for the night and his baby sister sleeping silently down the hall, watched over by their attentive House Elf. It was almost as though the two of them were the only occupants of the house - the only two people alive in the world at that moment.
"Mulciber is the architect - perhaps the greatest architect of all time," he could hear the smile in her voice as she spoke softly to him... only to him did she speak so kindly. Her favourite, her son. "An angel, and the creator of Pandemonium."
He didn't understand, and he was growing more tired by the moment, his eyes drooping ever so slightly, heavy. He was so warm in her embrace, and couldn't recall ever feeling more safe, every other trouble or thought melting away. "And you will be an architect too, one day," she was continuing softly - some motherly instinct letting her know he was losing focus rapidly as sleep called to him. She closed the book with a small exhale, setting it down gently on the bed beside them before bringing her hand back up to brush the hair back off his face. "You will be the harbinger of something incredible," she wasn't speaking directly to him anymore, as his head lolled to the side, and Julian started to finally drift. Adalene's eyes scanned her son - he seemed so fragile in her arms - "you will bring us a Pandemonium on Earth." She smiled sweetly, her words still whispered as though they were sweet nothings, the young Julian oblivious to the inferment as he began to dream.
