Lottie's mum wrote to her asking her to meet at their house during the next Hogsmeade trip. That was fine with Lottie. It would be nice to see her.
She went down as soon as she could and met her mum at their house. After a snack, her mum said they were going out.
"Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise."
Lottie did like surprises, though it did seem odd because her mum usually just told her everything. Or at least she thought she did.
They walked over to the Orphanage.
"A good surprise, right?" Lottie joked. Of course her mum wasn't just giving her away.
Ava chuckled. "Yes, of course."
Maybe Lottie would have to do some volunteering there or something. She knew some of the kids of course - especially those who she went to Hogwarts with. So that wouldn't be such a terrible surprise.
They had to wait at the main office of the person who ran the orphanage. There were a couple of chairs in the hallway so they patiently waited. Lottie hoped she would still have time to go get candy and a butterbeer, though, and that this interview to see if she would be a good volunteer wouldn't go too long. At least, she was very confident that was why she was there.

The last thing Tynan wanted to do was visit the Orphanage on his Hogsmeade visit. Not that he had a choice this time, as he had been summoned to the building for an important matter. Honestly, his first thought had been that they were kicking him out for his string of bad behaviours and that he was going to be moved to a new Orphanage again. So he had begrudgingly trudged his way to his summer 'home' and was now kicking the backside of the desk he was seated in front of.
Sullenly he waited in the Director's office like someone about to receive a criminal sentence. Hunched down in the chair he was mostly seeing if he would be taking the train this year after all, since he usually just watched it chug off. Maybe a change would be good. An Orphanage in London he could sneak out of to go to Diagon Alley or simply roam the streets of the city. He could get into way more trouble there than he could out here. "C'mooonn...'m bored an' wan' ta spend my weekend a' the Brooms'cks. Can we ge' a move on wi' wha'ever this is?"

After a few minutes, Hestia came out and let them inside. One of Lottie's classmates was also there. Would they be volunteering there together, helping out? Not the most fun Higsmeade trip but Lottie lived there anyway.
"Say hello to your new brother!" Ava said.
"Wait... really?" Lottie looked at her mum to see if she was kidding. She wasn't.
Lottie gasped excitedly. "Oh yay!" She instantly got up and embraced Ty in a big hug, whether he wanted to or not. "Can we go home and show him around?"
"Yes, I have some paperwork here, though. You can run off and we'll get Ty's things after."
Lottie grabbed his hand and ran off with him towards the exit.

"Wha'?" Tynan immediately lost the sulky look that had been on his face most of the day and exchanged it was a baffled one. New brother? He looked from Hestia to Ava and then the girl who spoke. Lottie if he remembered right. She was a year younger than him and in Gryffindor. Hey, he knew people he just didn't get along with anyone.
The grumpy teenaged werewolf was equally stunned when Lottie came right over and just hugged him. Was this real? This couldn't be real, no one came to orphanages looking for delinquent teens. No, they came for the cute sweet kids who weren't going to be problems. No one picked kids like him so he had to be dreaming or something.
Only as his hand was grabbed and he got dragged out of his seat he had to admit it felt real. Plus the feeling of falling would have jerked him awake anyway. This meant he had to really be getting adopted which was a mind boggling concept in itself. "Wai' a sec would ya, where're we goin'?"

Lottie was oblivious to Tynan not wanting hugs or to be running off with her. "Home!" she exclaimed, in response to where they were going.
It didn't take long to get there. They were in a quaint cottage with now 3 bedrooms. They had 2 but now there was another one. Lottie's room looked a little smaller but not that much. Ava probably used magic too. Or whoever built the new bedroom.
The living room was cozy with warm colours and a comfy sofa. The kitchen was a little old fashioned but worked well enough.
"Let's go see your room!" Littie didn't pull Tynan this time. She dimply ran off and opened the door for him, letting him go there himself. It was kind of empty. There was a dresser, bookshelf, bed with blue blankets.
"You can bring your stuff later." Lottie didn't mnow how little or much Ty had. She didn't think of it, actually. Ava would orobably have to go shopping with him next holiday. "Won't this be so much fun?!" she said as she walked in and sat on his bed with a plop, bouncing a little. "Oh, we'll have to visit grandpa soon too!"

Home.
As he was dragged along by Lottie he tried to wrap his head around that. Was it a permanent home, or had the orphanage gotten sick of his and put him with a foster family? Would he end up right back where he had been once they got sick of him? Really, there was only one way to find that out, and it was to keep acting the way he did.
"Wai', can we slow down." Tynan was dragged into the little cottage with a bit of nervousness. He had sort of assumed the 'surprise' Hestia had prepared for him would have been some snack or something. This was definitely not what he had thought when he'd gotten an owl, and now he was uprooted from what he knew in a home that, well, definitely felt strange to him.
"My room?" A room all to himself? Lottie ran off and left him standing awkwardly in the main room, too confused to really get his bearings on his usual anger. Uncertainly he followed her through the space to the open door. It was a room, a real room. Sure, it was a little empty, but it was less empty than the room he'd had at the orphanage. A dresser, a bookshelf...and a bed that wasn't a bunk bed.
"I don' 'ave any stuff." He said this before he could really think about it but it was true. All his things fit into his Hogwarts school trunk, and it was all boring school stuff. Plus, his weekend attire, which, well, wasn't all that much. And what extra he did have was stuff he had stolen from other people. "Er...s'pose. Visi'...loo' I uh...ain' this some sor'a mis'ake or somethin'?"

Lottie just didn't hear Ty's request to slow down. She was too excited. She clearly couldn't tell how nervous or anxious this all made him, or how much of a big deal it was for him. Lottie was just excited to have a brother! But she had absolutely no idea how it would feel like to Tynan. While Hestia was a great person and the orphanage was as good as it could be, it still was an orphanage and he probably had a lot of bad memories in his past. Lottie never had any of that. Her parents were famous in the sports world and while her parents were going through a divorce and it sucked that she never saw her dad, it was nothing in comparison to Tynan. She just didn't have the capacity to understand. Everything in childhood was just fun and exciting to her.
"Yes, of course your room! Sorry you're great but I don't think I'd want to share with a boy, ew!" Lottie was getting old enough to not think that all boys were 'ew', but the idea of having a bedroom with them sure was.
"What do you mean? Did something happen to your stuff?!" Lottie thought maybe there was a fire or someone stole his things or something. What a tragedy!
"No, definitely not. I mean I always said I'd like to have a brother, and so I guess my mum - I mean our mum - went through with it. I mean, it's not going to happen with dad..." Lottie got a little sad for a second, her voice lowering as she looked down a bit. It was the first moment this whole time that she wasn't super upbeat and excited. "He's not really in the picture anymore. He's back in Boston. So you probably won't see him. But we see grandpa often!" Grandpa was alone too. That was the whole reason they moved back to England, actually, because Ava wanted to be closer to him. But Gruffydd didn't want to come too. And now they were officially divorced.
Lottie was glad that they came, though, because then she got to go to Hogwarts. She wasn't sure how Salem would have been, but she wouldn't imagine it would be as great as being in a castle.

That wasn't quite what he'd meant by getting his own room, but he couldn't quite wrap his mind around it. Sure, there had been rooms at the Orphanage, but they were hardly 'his' and oftentimes not only him occupying the space. Having a strictly personal space was...well, it was really confusing. And what if he got used to it only to have it taken away? Or if he was returned for being too much of a problem?
"Wha'...no? I jus' don' 'ave stuff." The trunk of his school things was still up at school, and the little bit of belongings at the Orphanage had just been things like Quidditch posters. The stuff he hadn't bothered packing up for the school year. It was hard to provide for all the orphans as it was, let alone splurge on extra things, and he understood that was why. It didn't make it any easier to explain why he had nothing besides clothes and school supplies.
Our Mum. Tynan felt like he was being spun around in circles and then told to walk straight. It sounded like Lottie's dad was leaving, which made him uneasy. Getting adopted, mid-divorce stuff made him wonder if this was just a spur-of-the-moment thing and if he'd be back at the orphanage once the turmoil settled. Which meant he shouldn't bother getting settled.
With that thought in his head, he went back to scowling faintly, deciding he wasn't going to put his hopes into this. Dropping onto a chair, he turned his sullen eyes around the room before landing back on Lottie. "Grea'. So...ya Mum jus' decided ta adop' some random kid ta...wha', fill'a room?" He didn't want to bring Lottie's mood down, but he was wary of the whys of it all. "'Cause I ain' a grea' choice."

"Oh," Lottie said, a little confused and sounding a little down about the explanation. She wasn't sure how Tynan couldn't have anything, but she supposed that ended that inquisition. She didn't want to pry too much on why he didn't have anything. But he would now, she was sure of it. Lottie wasn't sure when that would be, though, since they were both in school. Probably during the next holiday at Christmas. And that was the perfect time to get some gifts! Lottie wondered what she should get Tynan for Christmas now. After all, he was her new brother.
She had to admit that this felt a little sudden to her too, but also very exciting! She wasn't sure how her life would change, but it wouldn't for a little while anyway since they were both at the castle. They couldn't very well eat together or hang out together in their common room, though. So they probably wouldn't see each other much more. But maybe they could find time to hang out more if Tynan wanted to. Lottie sure knew his reputation for being a little grumpy and hard to get to know. But now he was her brother, so she hoped he wouldn't be cold to her like some others.
"No, Tynan," Lottie said, a little sternly. She instantly felt defensive about it. She would feel that way any time someone said something against her mum. But then she tried to remember that Tynan could get like that and maybe he might have reason to feel upset. She wasn't sure how it was in an orphanage. Nor did she ever really think much of it before. "Shouldn't you be happy about this? It's not a joke. She's not really that funny, actually." Not that that would have anything to do with it, though. "I'm sure you're a great choice. But I don't know if it's about that. I mean you're a person, not a pet or decoration or something you'd buy in a shop. You didn't have any stuff before.. and that's no way to be. I'm sure she'd adopt everyone if she could!"
Ava wasn't known for being overly generous, though not known for being selfish either. But she probably wouldn't adopt everyone. That would be too much. Even if she was famous. But she wasn't even working anymore. Lottie wasn't sure if she was going to get a new job or not. Though her time as a professional Quidditch player would probably set them for a few years at least. Not that Lottie thought too much about that sort of thing. But she hoped her mum could find a job soon. She didn't want her to get too bored.

The response she gave made his face feel a little hot and he huffed to try and negate that. At least she had let it drop though, he didn't want to explain why he didn't really have much. The staff at the Orphanage had always tried but there were too many kids to spend any extra on things. It was likely she would find out eventually but he wasn't about to explain it to her here and now. It was just awkward to him to have to tell others that people weren't usually nice and that, as an orphan, he'd come to find most people were jerks.
"I dunno." Tynan huffed out when asked if he should be happy he'd been adopted. People thought they could help him, that he was just a troubled teen they could 'change'. But they never realized how difficult it was to have a werewolf in their house. How his mood was affected by the moon before and after, how exhausting it was, and how frustrating. So it always made him suspicious when a supposedly nice person came and chose the troubled werewolf. He felt like a novelty piece, a trophy to be trotted about more than anything else.
"I'm no' though." A great choice? No. There were other kids, happier, younger, less damaged and more deserving. He was too old for anyone to care about now. So why? Why him? Why now? It was just too strange and made him feel unsettled. Was he even capable of being in a family? It felt like it had been ages since he'd known one and hope...well hope could be paralyzing. If he came to feel happy here and then he got returned he wasn't sure he'd recover from it. "Did your Mum even say anythin' before abou' this? Or was i' real sudden?"
