Another summer break had already come and gone, which meant it was time to welcome back the students for another year at Hogwarts. A task Roxanne was already dreading. One would wonder why work in such an establishment if one resented it so? Well, it was not always easy to secure employment as a vampire, and Hogwarts was one of the few that she knew would not discriminate against her. After all, if Vampire and Werewolf students were allowed, they surely could not reject one as a staff member.
So, while she was not looking forward to taking care of angsty teenagers and fool-hardy kids, she was currently preparing for the year nonetheless, spending some time shopping in Hogsmeade for supplies. One of her stops was at the apothecary, grabbing some additional ingredients she would need for some commonly used potions. While they did have some supplies in the potions classroom, and she knew she would get the potion master’s help, she enjoyed brewing her own potions when possible. She quite enjoyed the practice, and she particularly enjoyed the control, knowing that the potion was brewed correctly under her care.
With a brief nod to the shop worker, she wandered around the store, grabbing various ingredients she needed to refill her current stock. A few bezoars, some syrup of hellebore, a handful of mistletoe berries. She paused before an empty shelf. “Excuse me, would you perhaps have more Wolfsbane?” She asked the shopkeeper as she noticed its lack of stock, a slight edge to her tone. She would soon have a handful of werewolf students returning to school the week before the full moon. She needed to be prepared to help administer the Wolfsbane Potion to them, and she could not do so without wolfsbane leaves. One would think an apothecary would be able to predict such events and be better prepared.
The employee excused themselves to check on their stock, leaving Roxanne alone in the store. With a soft sigh and roll of her eyes at the incompetence, she resumed the rest of her shopping. She sure hoped she would not have to visit Diagon Alley to find all of her ingredients, as she was not in the mood to go gallivanting in London on that day. It was at that moment she heard the door chime ring, and she glanced over to see who was walking into the store.
